Snacking?? Please Help!??!!
Hello eveyone... This is a question that we can all relate to.... ;)
Whats a good low calorie snack?? I usually cut up a granny smith apple into a million slices and that would serve me good as if I were eating chips or somthing... but lately I have been too lazy to even keep cutting up my apples... lol... so I'm wondering what others out there are snacking on to help stay on track?? I am a very picky eater... and the stuff that I can think of there is a negative side to them... Example.. - Carrots = I cant eat them without dip... and well... DIP IS THE ENEMY! (right?) - Beef Jerky = low in calories, good protein, high in sodium! (is it worth going for lower calories when the sodium is so high??) So, what do all of you snack on while trying to stay on track??? THX -Jessica :) |
I like slices of turkey or ham (the ones I make myself, not that sodium laden deli stuff), cottage cheese and fruit, a handful of almonds or walnuts. I get Deans fat free french onion dip (10 calories a tablespoon) to dip my veggies in or make my own with ff sour cream and a packet of the hidden valley ranch mix.

Laughing cow cheese is WONDERFUL! I usually eat it with triscuit, these whole wheat deli crackers I get from Publix, or celery/cheese slices.
I also like sugar free dark chocolate jello pudding. MMMM...and Blue Bunny SF Fudgesicles. |
Do you have access to a microwave? Quaker Less-Sugar-Added oatmeal, apple cinnamon flavour, is a great low-cal snack, super filling and yummy too.
I also like cottage cheese and fruit. And I love Laughing Cow with Triscuits, but that's something I have trouble controlling if I'm at home with access to the whole box of crackers... |
I like string cheese (50 calories), pretzels (fat free!), and Special K bars (90 calories). I have also recently discovered Walden Farms calorie free salad dressings, which you could use as a veggie dip, or they also have some veggie dips that I haven't tried. These are in the diabetic section of my supermarket.
Oh, and popcorn is always a great snack, of course. |
waffle cut carrots
tuna in those foil packets Navel oranges |
I vote for walnuts. raw or unsalted would be best, esp for bingers like us.
also i was just reading that omega 3s ,which walnuts are a good source of, help to ward of binging behavior and control appetite. have you seen those one-step apple slicer things? http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&key...l_1r29ebwyqb_e then you could be lazy and still eat apple slices! :) and for veggies and dip, try hummus dip. you can make your own, or buy one. my trader joes brand is 3.69 for a big tub and its 50 calories per 2 tbsp. but they are nutritious calories, not empty or preservative loaded like some dips. hope that helps. :) |
