cereal!!!!
ok i can't actually get away from eating the stuff i mean i eat a huge bowl in the morning filled to the top and it's ussually cornflakes but sometimes oats although oats seem to be a bigger trigger. And I'm pretty good going the rest of the day but i worry that the cereal is stopping me. For instance yesterday food diary goes:
MOrning= Huge bowl of cornflakes + simmed milk Dinner= Ceaser salad chicken no crutons Snack= 2 pieces of melon Lots of diet coke so the rest of the day is fine just need to know really is cereal really bad\????? and does n e one else get this with cereal???? cheers |
I can get that way if I let myself near it, so I don't let myself keep the really addictive cereals in the house (just what df eats). Do you count calories and/or measure out how much you're actually eating? Cereal has a ton of calories in it, more so because the serving size is so small (often around 3/4 to 1 cup for 150 calories for the frosted types). I think its counting calories that helps me stay away from stuff like that- it makes me realize that if I eat 500 calories for breakfast, what's going to be left for the rest of the day!
|
I am a cereal eater myself. Probably because in a house with children it's quite hard not to grab a quick bowl of cereal. If I do eat it, I barely put any milk in it and try to stay true to the serving size. Is it bad? I have no clue, but it's definitely something I need to look into myself as more often than not, a quick bowl of cereal is not only convenient but satisfies that sweet tooth I seem to have in the mornings.
|
I gave up cereal as a breakfast because I need 3 big bowls to feel full, or more. It does make a fair once in a while snack or dessert. But I was much happier once I stopped expecting it to be filling.
|
Cereal is pretty much a death trap for me. 99.9% of the time I end up binging on it and eat sooooo many bowls in one sitting until it feels like cereal is filled up to my throat. This usually happens either on a friday or saturday night after everyone has gone to sleep.
I'm proud to say that I'm completing my 2nd weekend and 14th day being binge free :) |
Wat do u cereal free guys eat for breakfast insted???? yer last night after my meal had to eat two bowls then felt very sick and still binged!!! i hate binging :(
|
Cereal is my weakness, as well. Even the high fiber "boring" types are dangerous for me. Sometimes i can have them w. plain yogurt on top in the morning and be OK, but other times it can get completely out of control.
A "safer" breakfast for me is usually hard boiled eggs or some other kind of protein with fruit. |
Ill either have egg beaters (plain or w/ sundried tomatoes or something) and whole wheat 8 grain english muffins that I bake myself :) or I will have oatmeal with toast... usually I have a banana too, but I eat that before my cardio workout, then I eat breakfast after that.

Cereal tends to be a bad bad thing for me. It definitely is a binge trigger - 'That bowl was soooo good, I'll just have one more' and then 'Maybe just a half a bowl more' followed by handful after handful after handful...
Not good. I think part of the problem is that cereals tend to be sweet (even the low sugar ones), and sugar is so so addictive! One thing that does help, is taking the box and immediately putting it into serving size baggies. For me, it's harder to overeat when I know exactly how many servings I just had!!! |

Now, I'm having muesli - oats (I'm actually using a multi-grain mix) soaked in vanilla soy milk (not cooked), with some Greek yogurt, 1/2 a banana, 1/4 of a green apple, plus cranberries and nuts. |
Chudge- I completly relate! It can be a death trap to me because I feel like it's healthy, with all the fibre and milk/calcium, but after 4-5 bowls... not healthy :0 Instead, I like to have 1 cup cottage cheese and a cup of apple slices. I get the calcium, not to mention protein ;) and I enjoy the sweetness from the fruit.
I highly recommend it to anyone! |
I like Oatmeal with fixin's--ground flaxseed, 10 raw almonds and a bunch of berries. This morning I had a stalk of brocolli with 5 egg whites. I also like egg white salad on whole wheat bread with lettuce and tomatoes.
I love cold cereal but can easily eat 500 calorie bowl lickity split and be hungry an hour later. |
I love cold cereal, without milk. I occasionally eat cheerios with milk, but usually I eat cheerios, cornflakes, or life just as a snack or dessert. I never have more than 1 cup at a time. I also don't eat it for breakfast. I have a protein shake for breakfast which tastes delicious and fills me up, and I save cereal for "dessert" or something to snack on when I'm reading or watching TV. I don't really like sugary cereals, I stick to ones with fiber and whole grains, but I also just love the taste. Mmm!!

That looks a day's unhealthy eating.

Hi I'm new to this thread. Cereal is definitely a trigger food for me. I'm staying away from it right now. I binge on salty carbs in the afternoon which I have not done today. I have found a soy free protein to which I add other ingredients. It is the one new habit which I have stuck with for over a year now. I sail thru to lunch without a crash. Its a good feeling-enough for me to keep doing it. Good luck. I am also trying to be very aware of portions right now. I know that for me, my choice of portion size can turn a good choice into a poor one very quickly.

i am ADDICTED

Any exercise is good to help kickstart the weightloss -- especially if you're fairly sedentary. Do what you enjoy! (i find general outdoor activities and weight training are perfect for me because I have fun) Good luck :) |
I can easily binge on cereal,if I don't stop myself.Even cornflakes. The only one that I don't binge on is cheerios. So that is what I have been buying. It is
filling and easy for mornings. |

Ughhh, cereal is the WORST!!
Okay, time for a horrendously embarrassing, "I-can't-believe-I-did-that" story! (Warning: this could maybe be triggering? I dunno.) When I was home for Easter in April, I binged ridiculously for pretty much the entire weekend, and lemme tell you, cereal played a *big* role in that... So much so that during one of my binges, I ate like 2 bowls EACH of Fruit Loops and Corn Pops, and I actually dumped most of a bag of chocolate chips (that I randomly found in our kitchen) into the bowls of Corn Pops and ate them together... Cuz obviously they needed that extra "kick" of sugar (?!?!). Ugh, that is definitely something that feels perfectly reasonable at the time and yet completely ridiculous when you tell someone about it later!! :o Oh, but actually, it gets much worse--a little into my second bowl of Corn Pops(/chocolate chips), my brother walked in and saw me eating them and said, "Oh, you might not want to eat those; I think I saw some bugs in the box earlier!" ....Do YOU think I stopped eating that bowl? :( Yeah, cereal and I are NOT friends--or at least not the sugary kinds. Like some of you, I'm more or less fine with having very controlled portions of Total, Fiber One, etc... But the minute I reach for one of those "candy" cereals, I know I am binging. And the sad thing is, I still think those Corn Pops and chocolate chips tasted REALLY delicious together and could totally go for another bowl. Sometimes ya just gotta wonder what the heck is wrong with you! :?: |
Hello, my name is Kelly, and I'm a cereal addict... For me there's some psychological stuff going on... growing up, sweet kids cereal was off-limits. I used to dream about Count Chocula and Captain Crunch, probably triggered by all those commercials. The few times my mom bought some I couldn't stop eating it, (it's so dang good)! :tantrum:
As a grownup I know now that buying golden grahams, corn pops, cocoa krispies etc. just drives me crazy. I just can't go there. I'd eat a whole box every morning. Even eating healthy cereal sometimes will trigger a binge. Reading this post makes me think I should find another breakfast choice.:nono: |

I eat balance bars, 2oz. nuts, eggs/cottage cheese, eggs/cheese/turkey bacon -- not all at the same time ;)--- lots of filling an tasty non-bingetriggerring breakfasts out there :) |

The only cereal that I can safely have around me is Fiber One. And not the flakes one. The twig-gy one. I do buy cereal for my kids. They are unlike their mother (thankfully) and can stop at one normal sized bowl. I don't get it. I don't touch "their" cereal. It is off limits for me. |
I can also easily binge on cereal. The last couple of weeks I have begun purchasing 6 grain cereal from the bulk bins rather than boxed varieties. I won't be binging on it. I like it very much but I don't think it would ever occur to me to binge on it.
|
I've overeaten (semi-binged) on Kashi Go Lean. It is now banned from my home.
|
Chudge, Try the Kashi Vive Cereal.. you are allowed to have 1 and 1/4 of a cup per serving very high in fiber and very good.. I usually have ceral for lunch with fat free milk. My breakfast is a protein shake that keeps me full til 11am and then a snack. I use the American Whey Chocolate Protein powder, very smooth and yummy one scoop is 110 calories, 10 gr protein, 24 sodium, 6 carbs, I think 2 sugars, I usually have a scoop and a half blended with fat free milk.. But I eat every 2-3hrs, to keep my metabolism up..
|
This probably sounds wierd but I'm that way with crackers, mostly any kind of crackers. I don't even have them in the house anymore.

Cream of Wheat with a TON of brown sugar. Oatmeal or Red River cereal with a TON of white sugar. Alphabits. Captain Crunch. Honeycomb...sigh...and especially -- the real biscuit Shredded Wheat (not the spoon sized stuff) with no sugar!!! I can seriously eat an entire box in one sitting. Of any cereal. With tons of milk.
Needless to say, I have eggs and toast for breakfast. No cereal for me...sigh... Kira |
I love cereal! I went a whole week in college eating only fruit and cereal. Now, I'll only eat cereal out of a coffee mug. If I put it in a regular bowl, I'll have way too much.
|
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who can't control myself with cereal sometimes. It's impossible for me to measure it out and not feel totally robbed by how tiny the portion looks. I'm working on not keeping it in the house, I just need to get my fiance (and myself) on board!
|
Ooooohhh I love cereal but I have given it up, since I started on my weight loss journey I have only had one medium sized bowl. If I ate it every day I would be sunk, it has wwaaaaayyy too many carbs for my system to enjoy it.
|
Cereal is a binge food for me as well, especially if I have it with milk. If I eat it dry, I don't eat so much, but if I have milk. . .I keep eating until the box is almost empty. Golden Grahams are the worst!
|
Frosted Flakes are my worst enemy. I was doing so good, and then this weekend I've managed to eat at least four bowls. I think I will go back into the 180s tomorrow because of it.
|
Did you ever try plain oats? YOu can toast them to give them a bit more crunch.
