I've hit a plateu, and can't seem to budge.

  • Hi, brand new poster here!

I joined Weight Watchers a few months ago, and only added up Points for a few weeks before it became a mental thing. I know what I should and should not eat, but it is not always an easy thing while at work.

Most of the time, I'll have some Eggo Whole Wheat waffles for breakfast, along with some juice. As a snack, I'll have a Kellogg breakfast bar and Pomegranate applesauce. For lunch, I usually carry a SmartOnes, Lean Cuisine, or Campbell's Chunky Soup + Babybell cheeze wheel. I have yet to get tired of these options, and I've been doing it for months. There are so many kinds to choose from! haha I think I should also add, I don't drink soda any more at all. Mainly water, VitaminWater, or some sort of juice.

Anywho, I work in a pharmacy, and we're allowed to snack. So, I'll get Quaker Cheddar Mix or Gardetto's (not sure if I'm spelling this right.) I do fine with "healthier choices" than my fellow employees, but I'm still overweight.

When I get home, my parents are crazy non-health freaks. There is almost nothing to choose from to snack on that isn't bad for you. At the moment, I'm saving up money to move about 200 miles away with close friends, so I'll know I can eat better within the next 3 months, but still...

I play In The Groove (a dance game similar to Dance Dance Revolution, with harder songs that burn more calories.) I play at least 3 times a week, and easily burn 600+ calories each time I play. I've also recently started going to Planet Fitness, yet I have been at a constant 177-181 for the past 3 months. What also confuses me is...there are many other players that eat ten times worse than me, play less, and still are super skinny.

I don't know what's up, really. I feel like I eat so much better that all of my fellow employees, and exercise more, yet they stay at a very skinny weight, while I am stuck at being overweight and unhappy.

Any help guys? Am I just not understanding this whole weight loss thing, or what?
  • I am with you.

I need advice too! I've been stuck at 117 for almost two weeks now, and I can't seem to lose the slightest bit of weight. It's like I'm stuck here and I don't know what else I can do. I know I might need to kick up my exercise routine, but besides that, it still doesn't seem to be helping. I'm a calorie counter, so I know what I am consuming. I've been trying my best, but it's like I'm starting to maintain a weight I'm not ready to settle for!

Two weeks at 117 pounds (especially if you acknowledge you need to increase your exercise) is far from stuck! The closer you get to goal, the slower the weight will come off--especially since your goal is a pretty low one. In the meantime, just take advantage of the maintaining practice!
  • mouse - have you lost any weight in the past year or so? if you have you could just be in a normal plateau phase where your body is basically readjusting to your new weight. In that case its important to keep doing what your doing, dont get discouraged!

If thats not the case...I would recommend mixing up your eating habits a little. It sounds like your eating a lot of processed food which are very low in nutrients your body can readily use. Add in some fruit, vegetables and something high in fiber (oatmeal is great). That may help to jump start your metabolism.

Also, theres no substitute for good old running. If you can find the motivation try mixing that with the dancing youre already doing.
  • Mouse, I would cut the juice and vitamin water from your diet and replace it with plain water and whole fruit and vegetables. Juice can be very high in sugar even if it has no added sugar, and it contains no fiber. Good luck!
  • Just came across this thread..
HELLO from a fellow ITG'er! Also DDR, and PIU. It's a pretty awesome form of exercise, I've been playing for 8 years.
I can only think of a few possibilities..
Start taking measurements if you haven't already. I don't know how long you've been playing ITG but it always gives me some crazy leg muscles when I start back up, so you could still be gaining muscle and staying the same weight.. maybe.
Like what was mentioned above, replacing some of that juice with water might help, and just eat actual fruit. Lots of sugar/calories sipping on juice all day.
If you get concerned, maybe you should get your thyroid checked to rule that out. A complete physical may be helpful, and just voice your concerns to your doctor.
