Diet Binge

HELP!

I am battling bulimia which I have picked up in the last 3 years or so. I have always had issues with food and have been overweight since pretty much birth. Since about the beginning of 08, I have done MUCH better. Not perfect, but a lot of improvement.

I try several diets only to cave and binge on the food I cant have. I had it curbed pretty well, but I dont deal well with stress and the last month of work had caused me to gain about 10 lbs. After not being able to fit into my 'fat clothes' I decided something needed to be done.

A few co-workers decided to try the FatSmash diet, which allows you to eat a fairly large portion. However, the first 9 days-no meat. Its pretty much fruits and veggies plus some brown rice.

I was doing well..for a few days...

Then last night I couldnt control it any longer. I binged and purged. I feel so guilty.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to do this diet thing without losing control? I HATE exercise and fail at that too. HELP!

Meaghen I hear ya girl!!!!. As long as you go on plans such as the one you said you started you will probably have difficulties. Basically you need to eat 5 to 6 times a day..So 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks. Google body for life. Im not necessarily saying go on this program...where they have people taking supplements etc at snack times...have healthy snacks. It will just help you with portion sizes etc. As a binger any plan that leaves you hungry or makes you go long periods of time on particular foods only can trigger a binge. Also I have found it very helpful to have a cheat meal or day...just make sure it isnt an all out binge fest!! That way you arent being deprived & its something to look forward to. Bulimia and binging are not things you can heal overnight...it takes a long time. Dont beat yourself up if you slip...doing that can make your slip worse or last longer. Stay focused on how long you have done without slipping and just start the countdown again. And most of all have nonjudgemental support!!! This site is a great place for that!!! Many many of us have been there and we all support each other no matter what our story.

As I life long binger :( -- I have found I need to know there is nothing "off limits" -- if I think there is something I "can't have" it obsesses me. So, "diet" is a word I can't use :). I personally have been doing Weight Watchers, because with the points portion of their program, I can have anything I want (it's all about keeping track and appropriate portions, vegs, etc.)-- which amazingly I don't particularly get out of control too much anymore just knowing nothing is off limits. I personally will always have an eating disorder -- I realize it and I am prepared to deal with it :D.

Well...one thing totally struck me here. You binge on foods you 'cant have'. If you deny yourself things then you're going to go mad and not ever be able to easily maintain. Introduce all kinds of food into your life, including the sweet things you like...but eat them in moderation and see how easy it is to CONTROL the food instead of denying it and letting it control you.
