Cured?

  • My main problem in the past was bingeing on large amounts of food due to stress and boredom. During college it got really bad, and my weight skyrocketed as a result.

For the past 2 months almost, I have been virtually binge free, except for 1 or 2 episodes towards the beginning. I had a lot of urges to binge in the first week but the further I've come, the more few and far between they've been and now I only get the urge when I'm extremely stressed out, but it's minor enough to resist.

Will it keep on getting better? Is it possible to be "cured" from binging?

    I sure hope so...
  • Hey, why not? Ive read peoples stories of being cured from eating problems / disorders such as anorexia, after much time and effort..but from all accounts, it IS possible, so I say keep at it and why shouldnt it happen for you?

  • Hm. I don't think we can ever consider ourselves "cured" but in recovery. I am currently a recovering binge/purger and am 6 weeks free, so I totally get how much you have been able to accomplish in the past 2 mos. That is fantastic!

It is a really difficult thing to do but obviously very "worth it" because you're worth it--- you deserve to be healthy. I think that people tend to go to what is comfortable when they are stressed out-- whether that is eating lots of food or not eating anything. We have to learn to deal with our emotions and difficulties in another way. In a healthier way.
If you are feeling stressed out maybe you should try to do something else that can be soothing. Like writing in a journal. Or talking to a friend. Or taking a bath. Or listening to music. Or a thousand other things besides binging.

You can do it. You have proved that.
