The Food Network
Does anyone else watch the food network a lot? It's my go to channel along with Discovery Health. My roomates will have nothing to do with these cooking shows but I love them. I'm always checking out recipes on line and in magazines as well.
I was thinking last night that maybe I should cut down my food network viewing. Maybe it is just feeding my bingeing. Any thoughts? Does anyone else watch the food network a lot? |
I don't watch those shows, so can't really say for sure. I don't think they would prompt me to binge, unless they had a heavy emphasis on things that tend to trigger me (ie. baking and sweets). I think that mostly, they show lots more "real food", don't they? But you could always turn them off for a week or 2 and see if it makes a difference.

I used to.. I would collect recipes and pics of food, haha.
I actually gave up watching TV so maybe that could help you a bit? |
I was suprised to find this in here.. I had the same problem.. I used to LOVE the food channel.. I loved to cook.. loved to learn about food.. (it's all so civilized isn't it?).. so lovely.. you learn all the wonderful nuances of food..
I would STOP watching it.. I did and it REALLY has helped.. |
I've banned myself from the Food Network. It triggered me...especially Iron Chef for some reason.
:p |
Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's good to hear what others think.
Have a good day |
Hey, Bikini Dreader...
Maybe instead of watching Food Network (which I try so hard to avoid), treat yourself to a Cooking Light subscription. It's one magazine I really enjoy because they work hard to make their recipes healthy. I still don't make most of the sweets that they show in the magazine, but they have creative, refreshing entrees to try! |
I actually love that magazine! I borrow it from the library sometimes. I'm trying to save money so I recently discovered that you can get tons of stuff from the library for free - including magazines!
|
I LOVE food network...I like to cook so I love getting ideas from there. I dont get to watch too much tv but I record my faves and watch when I can.
|
Ahhh, the library. :) I recently started going again. I've been buying books for a while, and was spending, on average, at least $150 a month just on books.
The library rocks. It's a nice quiet place to go to sometimes too. :D |
wow that's amazing i was just thinking of making this very post. exactly about the Food Network and if anyone watches it. wow! I do watch it a lot and I think it triggers me sometimes. especially when i watch the cake challenges. those cakes just look soooo good! thankfully i have never given in to a "food network binge" usually i feel controlled when I watch it. weird huh?

back in college when i would live off of half a bagel a day, i watched the Food Network complusively. I also read A LOT of cook books. My mom told me that watching the Food Network doesn't count as actually eating, i thought that was just hilarious.
|
I love the food network because it gives me lots of ideas and inspiration. I don't think it will hurt to watch what you enjoy as long as the only inspiration you get isn't to make deserts ;) . Its helped me learn to love cooking and homemade meals...which is far better than the over-processed cans of food I lived on a year ago.
I just wouldn't read too much into it as long as it isn't negitively effecting your eating habits. |
