Ketchup ?

  • Hi Everyone,

I know I am not allowed to have ketchup during induction but I am going crazy without it...meat is just not the same without ketchup. Do any of you have any suggestions of what I could eat in place of it? Help me please !
  • There are low-carb ketchups on the market as well as organic ones that do not have sugar. Look in the health food section of your supermarket or go to some place like Whole Foods.
  • What about some mayonnaise tis nice!!

  • I never thought of mayonnaise but I guess before I stayed away from it. I'll try it thanks !
  • Oh boy. My son had a ketchup addiction. Everything he ate had to be dipped in it (mostly the meat and some veggies) but I worked with getting him to break this habit by making sure that the meat and veggies were all spiced the way he like them, and now he told me the other day that he didn't know it all could taste so good! Do you think it possible that with a little work you could eventually break the habit? Remember, even if you don't get the kind with added sugar, tomatoes are high in their natural content, so if you are eating it with every meal, it adds up. Sounds like it's something you just really got used to, rather than the actual taste of it all. <grins>

    Good Luck on your journey!
  • Yes, you're right Falon, it is a ketchup addiction, I love it....I love to dip everything, especially my meat in it. Yesterday was hard, I will admit, but the meat did taste good minus the ketchup and even though I missed dipping, I got along ok without it. It is something I will have to break. Thanks !
  • A-1 sauce. I am not sure if it is allowed on induction or now, but a little won't hurt.

The other thing you could do is use some tomato sauce. Boil it down a little thicker, perhaps add a few spices to it (like a little cinnamon) and make your own ketchup. I guess artificial sweeteners aren't allowed on induction either, but you could add some for later stages of the diet.
  • Ranch Dressing is good to dip meat and veggies in, my kids use it all the time.
  • Honestly though, I eat Heinz ketchup. Always did all the way through my weight loss so far. I just measure it out and count the carbs. I like ketchup.
  • Thanks Susan, I might try that as well...just count my carbs. I'll see how it goes.
  • I just found that Heinz makes a low catb ketchup with 1/2 the carbs. Tastes pretty good. also Kraft makes a low carb BBQ sauce which I used tonight. couldn't tell the difference!
  • Ketchup
George Stella has a low carb recipe for ketchup. I have used this on induction just to get me through. I used it sparingly and it didn't jeopardize my induction.
    Quick and Easy Sugar-Free Ketchup:
    8 ounces no-sugar-added tomato sauce
    6 ounces no-sugar-added tomato paste
    2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/4 cup sugar substitute (recommended: Splenda)

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

    Yield: 1 1/2 cups

  • I have low carb ketchup that doesn't taste bad. I got a real craving for french ries the other day so I cut up a Daikon Radish instead, and the low carb ketchup on it was amazing. Judy
