You'll probably have a big whoosh all at once when that water you are holding onto decides to leave.

I used to always mess myself up when I would start on Atkins. I would be doing really well with the process, but be extremely frustrated with the results. As a result, I would start stressing, wondering what I was doing wrong, and before long I would just want to throw in the towel and give up. This time I told myself I wouldn't do that, and every time I got to where you are, I would just hold on a little longer. I've been rewarded several times for that persistence. The weight does eventually decide to leave.

I am passed the change this time though so I think that makes it easier. It was much harder to tell myself to just hang on when Tom started creating those female hormones to add into the mix. I would always go higher before my period and usually reach a new low, just after. Men are lucky. They don't have to deal with such stuff. Don't ever compare yourself to a man or try and compete with him in the weight loss area. That is a sure recipe for frustration.

Thanks Sherry.. All you said is so true.. soooo true. None-the-less I have visions of pillows over his face during those moments.. LOL

I am still going with the flow and giving into the idea that this go around, I am going to lose this weight a lot slower than I did before. I actually gave into that this morning.. and the support here from you all has really helped me except it. So nice to be among human beings - if ya know what I mean! :D

It is refreshing that you all post your flubs - like McDonald's fries for dinner. Knowing that it happens to the best of ya, makes this process more humanized. Thank you guys for such honesty. :^:

Off to bed. See you all in the morning...

Good morning girlies!!! It is COOOLD here, and I agree, a nice cup of hot chocolate would be awesome! But I'll stick to my ice water instead.

Have any of you found splenda to cause you to stall or gain weight?? When I was drinking green tea I was putting 2 splendas in and I really think that was what was causing a stall....

The scales show a one pound gain but it's TOM so I'm not gonna stress about it.

Since it's so cold out I plan to just watch movies and clean :D

Hope everyone has a great, warm weekend!!

Lacey

Lacey - I have heard this before about Splenda. Have you ever tried Stevia? It's a natural sweetner you can find in your grocery store, or health food store. My husband uses it, and it doesn't seem to have any effect on him. :)

Falon 02-18-2006 10:17 AM

Good morning all..

It's so darn cold here! I woke up to -15.5 below, and for once..my black, creamless coffee was actually a welcomed hot drink! LOL

I think i'll wait until after we reach our supposed high of 17 degrees before I go get groceries. I say supposed because that's about the accuracy you get here in Colorado with the news channels. Yesterday, they said a high of 20. It didn't get over 5 degrees here at my place anyhow and by 4 pm it was already -2 below. It can be so drastic sometimes. Hope everyone else is warm. It seems the whole country is experiencing this cold snap.

Oh, and the scale this morning was back down 2 pounds to 188. Before the stall it was UP 2 pounds and stayed that way this past 2 weeks. So hopefully that means it's kicking back in!! :)

Good Morning :coffee:

Falon~ YAH!!!! The scale is moving :cb: Good! :)

Lacey~ I haven't experienced a stall with splenda, but I dont use it much because any more than a tsp at a time in something gives me wicked headaches. I put about 1/2 tsp in my green tea. Do you have powdered protein shake stuff? Maybe try a tsp of that mixed in to sweeten and flavour it abit?

Its cold here too!! The pellet stove is on, and Im bundled up infront of it with the lap top  Dh wants to go out for coffee this morning (like we always do) But Id be just as happy to stay home in this nice warm house.

Warning....men rant ahead WHY do men leave the gas tank on "E" all the time, and say there is LOTS of gas????? Its freezing out this morning, so he is going to start the truck up before we go to warm it up....Im guessing we only have enough gas to get to the gas station!!!!! Why do they do this?????? Yes he ran out once, and I was furious with him for it, because I was in the truck at the time it happened!! Why???? ............ok Im done :dizzy:

Keep warm ladies, and have an awesome weekend!! I'll be putting up pegboard this afternoon.

Lol! It isn't just men. My gas tank is often on E or below. I drive a Honda and have only ONCE ran out of gas. Although one or two other times I've been close! Since I drive the car all the time I know how long it has been low, and usually know how far I can push it. Usually when my tank says E I have about 2 gallons of gas left. I have a 12 gallon tank, and if I fill up when it first gets to E, I am usually only able to put in 10 gallons. But that is ok, as long as I don't let it get too far below the E. Then sometimes even though I have gas in there the car may not want to start unless I roll it to level which is what I did the last time I thought I had run out! For me it is a matter of time. (and money) Sometimes I'm just so busy running about that I can't take the time to get to the station and so figure I can let it go a little longer.

Splenda never stalls me, but then I don't use the powdered splenda usually. It does have some carbs. I use Torani Splenda syrup and manage to keep on losing in spite of using some a little every day.

I did notice years back though that when I first switched from Aspertame to Splenda (powdered form) that it seemed like I stopped losing just about then.

Falon I'm glad your scale is moving. See patience...

And I agree it is COLD here. We got down to 25 last night, but no snow this morning even though it has been raining lately. A cup of hot chocolate WOULD be good. I wonder if I can make some using my unsweetened Hershey's cocoa and my splenda syrup?

SherryA 02-18-2006 12:01 PM

Yes I can and it is GOOD. Cream, water, splenda syrup and unsweetened cocoa powder.

hockeyfan7 02-19-2006 12:11 AM

Falon - we went out to dinner tonight in Denver and it was only 5 degrees and it was freezing cold. I just wanted to come back home and get under my down blankies.

Isn't Splenda sucralose? That's the one Dr. Atkins recommends in his book as his preference. He says in the book that it's safe, non-caloric and does not raise blood sugar. He also says each packet has about 1 gram of carbs to count. I tried Stevia and thought it was totally nasty -- but a lot of people who do the 3 Hour Diet swear by it. I use Splenda to make sugar-free koolaid. I buy the non-sweetened packets and make it with Splenda instead of sugar - works great.

My Dad always told me not to let my gas tank get below 1/2 full and I rarely do. But then I drive a Geo Prizm and I can go a week on 1/2 tank. I have a friend who was always running out of gas and he kept having to replace his fuel pump on his car. 3rd time he had to do it, he asked the mechanic why and they told him it's because he lets the gas tank run empty. They told him never to let it go below 1/4 tank or you can damage the fuel pump and other parts.

Falon 02-19-2006 11:11 AM

Good morning ladies..
Still cold (2 degrees as of 9 am) and I gave in and put a teaspoon of heavy cream in my coffee. I just hate it black. I know I said I cut out the dairy, but there are just some things I can't put up with, and that's black coffee. I don't sweeten it though.. never have. Today is 'excessive laundry' day, and i'm not looking forward to it at all, but i'll get some excersise going up and down the basement stairs!

Susan - we went to Sam's last night, got home at 6:30 and it was 0 degrees. Painfull.. I got my flannels on, and under the blankets on the couch. Stayed that way til bed time. LOL The last few days have been brutal. My car didn't start due to it, so we had to borrow my mothers, which almost didn't start either!

Sherry - I am hugely embarrased to say, that *I* am the one bad about gas, and my husband is really good. He will not let it fall below 1/4 but I have been known to really push the envelope. I have never run out of gad though.. *knocking on wood* but I am working on being better about it. My car is a Merc tracer hatchback, and believe it or not.. gets 38-42 miles to the gallon. So between E and a 1/4 i'm thinking, "I've got at least 50 more miles.." .. LOL I know.. horrible.

Hope everyone stays warm.. Susan, stay in if you can.. Tuesday's supposed to be better. :D

Hi all, well I paid for it all day yesterday, that cocoa I made. It tasted wonderful while I was drinking it but I put too much splenda syrup in it and my tongue tasted nasty all day! I kept trying different things trying to get the nasty taste out of my mouth and I must admit I cheated yesterday.

It was the first time since January that I had any significant amount of non low carb foods. First we had that soup which was unsure about, not convinced it is or is not low carb. I didn't think it could be too bad, but I don't know.

Then the kids and I went to the movies and I had some popcorn. It didn't taste right though and really wasn't worth eating. I had a little of the kid's ice cream (with sugar), and a few pieces of my children's chocolate. I know I was bad.

The scale is up a little today, but not a lot and not enough to worry about assuming I get back on track today. Which I fully plan to do. It is funny that even with the deviations our dinner was still low carb and acceptable. We had steak and asparagas and salad and sauteed mushrooms.

So today I recommit to low carb. I ate left over salad for breakfast this morning. Probably ham for dinner tonight.

Anyway regarding gas. I read something that made a lot of sense to me and I've been working harder at doing it, about keeping the tank closer to full in case a natural disaster hit. When the hurricanes hit last summer a lot of people down there couldn't get any gas because the power to run the pumps was out. If we needed to leave town in a hurry it would be good to have at least one of the cars gassed up. So I've been trying to remember to keep the tank a little more full.

nasus40 02-19-2006 02:02 PM

Sherry thaqt is an interesting point about the natural disaster. Though I live only a mile from work and from the g-store I always end up with less than 1/4 tank for the most of the time. I never thought of the natural disaster though. Good point.

It does not sound like you flubbed up hardly at all, maybe enough to retain a tinly bit of fluid but that is all. if you totaled up your carbs you would be bearly above alowed leves\ls unless you are more that my thoughts. get back OP and dont sweat the small stuff. some times we need to shake things up a bit to get the weight loss thing going.
