Cottage cheese?

Hello chickies,

I'm new here and considering doing Atkins. Ordered the book but in the meantime until it arrives, I'm trying to learn as much as I can online about how to start.

One question: is cottage cheese not allowed on Atkins? If not, does anyone know why?

I've been on another food plan that required fairly high protein (30g protein per meal) and often used cottage cheese to supplement the meat, eggs, etc. It will be hard for me to give up the cottage cheese if I do Atkins!

Thanks,
Gigi

Cottage cheese was on the induction list in the first printing of the Atkins book. In later editions, Dr Atkins removed cottage cheese from the unlimited food list for induction because it is higher in carbs than other cheeses.

Save it for one of the other phases.

I honestly dont remember if it was on a list or not. But I eat it after the 1st 2 weeks induction.....only because I used the fat free stuff. I dont see why you couldnt have it (the regular stuff) as long as you keep it in your carb alotment :)

It's healthier than some of the other options. Make the plan (Atkins) work for you. Sometimes you gotta "stretch" the induction phase. Keep it within a reasonable amount (or even a small amount a day) and you should be fine. If you find you don't lose weight while eating it--just eliminate it from your choices :)
