I am thinking of doing Atkins and wondered what the reason behind no margarine is. Butter is so expensive, I really would rather use margarine. Any feedback?
i dont think its a huge deal....but i know it is good to get in lots of fat, so that is probably the reason..margarine shouldnt hurt as long as there are no more than 1-2 carbs in your serving
I'm not on Atkins, but a slightly higher carb plan (only whole grain and veggie carbs). I remember being on Atkins, but I don't remember the Atkins rationale for butter over margarine. I use butter because it is a more natural fat, and because I like the taste of it better. To me it's worth the splurge, and since it is rather expensive, I will use it sparingly. Metabolically they're fairly similar, and if you use only a small amount, it probably doesn't matter one way or another. If you do choose to stick to butter, there are a couple ways to save money. Check out discount grocery stores like Aldi or Save a Lot, or Walmart, or even your normal grocery store. Often the store brand is as little as half the price of a name brand.
Hi. I'm trying to find it in either of my Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution where is says not to ever have margerine and why. Hopefully, I'll find it soon and post ASAP.
I know what you mean about the cost; it's $1.00 a CUBE here, ($4.00/lb.)
