Courtney's First Buck

  • Yeah...she did it. She got a deer. And a nubbin buck at that. This was the first year she could go hunting (you have to be 11 to take hunters safety and 12 to go hunting) and to get a deer the first year was great. She's going back out tomorrow to see if there's a bigger buck w/her name on it

  • well, DH said thats a great accomplishment- he said there are people who go hunting for years and never get that.....wants to know if she got the traditional 'blooding".....me Im so, not used to that.....it's kind of a Bambi feeling to me...but I definitely support that little girl if she is happy about it and am happy for ya'll........
  • No, she didn't have to gut it. But she did have to kind of help. She also had to help pull it out of the woods. Oh, and of course DH hung the....parts up for "luck". We use deer like we do cow. It's a food source for us.
  • Congrats to her! it looks like she is quite the marksman...er...woman!.....and good luck to her tomorrow!
  • Good for Courtney !!! I don't know a woman that can stomach doing that, me and Marie for one LOLOLOL !!!! I'm like Marie, BAMBI but you know, DH taught me that its okay b/c they do it for the meat and not just the "sport" they don't shoot doe b/c the don't believe in it and they also are afraid that they could be pregnant so they leave them be. They just go for big bucks

DH and his family used to hunt all the time, but now that, a couple of things happened that now they don't go any more. 1. FIL is 81 and just can't do the trips anymore. 2. My nephew fell with his gun when he was 14 (he is now 21) and the gun went off and blew off his chin and lips and the tip of one of his fingers, but thank God his finger was there b/c his face could have been worse. He's had over 70 operations and he still needs so much more b/c he was so young when it happened and his bones were growing, so its a tough stage to do bone and cosmetic surgery. He still has a big hole in his chin and walks around with a huge bandage wrapped around his face. He's so used to it.

Gee Brenda, sorry, I didn't mean to scare you with this story.....
  • Oh BTW, Brenda, Courtney looks exactly like you she's very cute
  • Leenie, you can't tell me anything that I ain't already scared of!!!! We went through hunters safety (it's the law for kids now. They can't get a hunting license w/out it) and so HOPEFULLY that helps a LOT. Also, the season here is when the deer aren't pregnant yet (or anymore). Bow hunting season is a little iffy, but DH watches to make sure no little ones are following mamma before shooting. My theory is, you can't eat the horns. And if we waited for the big trophy we'd never have venison in our freezer.

Hmm...she looks like me?? Then Lord help her I always thought she looked like herself
  • Do you know what my DH did with all the horns he has gotten thru the years ? He made a hat rack for his father, you know something it came out really nice. I suggested throwing them outside for the squirrels to eat, you should have see the look I got for that one LOLOL Well, why waste em right
  • I would love to take all his racks and do something w/them rather than let them sit on the garage wall. Courtney's getting her little nubs so I'm going to figure out a way to get those buggers on a plaque
  • Brenda: Congrats to your DD....I was so afraid when I got into work this morning because I read an article about the 5 hunters in WI that were shot and killed by some deranged hunter in a tree....I was praying I wouldn't come in here this morning and hear bad news. Thank goodness they are both ok!
  • I was worried about that too! but they said it was father and son...still, I worry thats thats what happens when rivalry over territory happens.
