What do you do when you get a new scale?

I have been MASSIVELY avoiding buying a new scale. I knew mine was off (in my favor of course)! So, it finally went kaput this weekend and I have a new one. I don't like it very much right now!! My question is this. Do I adjust everything according to what my weight was Friday morning? In other words, adjust starting weight, current weight and possibly goal or just suck it up and change my current weight to what my new (crappy) scale says? ;)

What would you do personally? I'm struggling with my decision and want others opinions of what they would do in the same situation.

How far off is it? I've found that a lot of scales don't weigh like the doctor's scale or the gym scale. My doctor's scale actually weighs 3 pounds lighter than my home scale. But, I still use my home scale as my guide/reporting purposes.

I guess I'd look at what the new one says. Is it more than a few pounds? If not, then I'd just stay put. If more than 5, I'd probably adjust my current weight.

How crumby for you though. Especially if it pulls you into an "upper ten". Yuck. Sooo sorry, you have ALL my sympathy.

I would only adjust my current personally, it doesn't mean your other scale has been that far off the whole time it just means now so really going back and changing from the beginning seems kinda pointless... I hate new scales they are a royal pain in the pattooot.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that my old scale was consistently 5-6 pounds lighter. It was always 6 pounds lighter than my OB's scale, 7 pounds lighter thank my family physician scale and 5 pounds lighter than the YMCA scale. That is why I was thinking about changing everything (sw/cw/gw) by at least 5 pounds.

BUt I've thought about it overnight and just decided...I'm stressing about it entirely too much  I'm just going to adjust my weight to todays and go with it!!

Good attitude! After all, it doesn't mean you accomplished any less.

Hi Lori, After reading down this thread, I was going to suggest what you decided to do because YOU won't be up--and in just a few weigh-ins, you won't even notice. ;) I need a new scale too. :D

I made my mom take her scale back because it weighed EVERYONE heavier than their scales  I bought a new scale and lucked out that it matched my old one. Now I just have to get it to go DOWN again :(
Sorry you're having to re-adjust due to the scale. Anyway to adjust it or is it digital? Are you SURE that it's actually correct??

I know both my old scales are out in the garage....it sucks to find out youre a few pounds heavier than you thought but girlfriend...you've lost 40 POUNDS!!!! I'd adjust to current weight and next time I stepped on it, I'd imagine how I'd feel if it reflected the weight I STARTED at!...you've done great, and i think as long as in the long run, the high end continues to go down you oughta dance like a crazy fool! ;)
