Spaghetti Squash Help Needed

I've been trying to venture out in the vegetable world, but can't find spaghetti squash. I've looked at Winco and Safeway. No spaghetti squash. Other types, but not that one.

Star, I know you are the queen (or princess) of spaghetti squash, so where in the heck do you get yours?

Is it sometimes called something different?

Help!

I don't know if they have it at Winco, but I've seen it occasionally at Safeway. They also carry it at Fred Meyers and Albertsons. It's called spaghetti squash or vegetable spaghetti. They're generally about a foot or so long, pale yellow, and the same thickness all the way down (unlike butternut squash). Hope that helps!

Thanks! I'll try one of those. I knew you'd help, as always.

I saw this and had to reply....

Star...I finally tried the squash and I'm hooked!!! Don't ask me what took so long to prepare it...it sat in my fridge for a week or more!!! I almost thought it would go bad!

But I prepared half of it (since I cooked for only me tonight, DH is working) and I tried it with some garlic and some other spices...and had it with some salad!! Wonderful.....the vinegrette that I had on my salad blended well with it too...so I tossed it all together and Voila'......dinner!!!

So thanks again for the tips!!

LOVE--I purchased mine at Safeway...always seem to have them in stock, I would have thought this was a seasonal thing...but it's always there. If you can't find it, try one of the local farms.....all kinds of produce out!!

Wonderful, isn't it? You can also cook the whole thing and then just store it. It re-heats very well (as long as you haven't overcooked it the first time).

LONG LIVE SPAGHETTI SQUASH! :D

I think I'll try it over the weekend. That is, if I can find it.

Thanks guys!

I have a question. I recently tried this also. Is it normal for the "strands" to stay a little crunchy? I'm beginning to think I undercooked mine.

Just wondering?

StarPrincess 07-07-2004 02:04 PM

Nope. Crunchy is normal. :)
