WHy dont' it work!!!!!

right i'm tryin this atkins thing again. but i come unstuck i do the induction for 2 weeks and lost around 12lb then after the 2 weeks i start adding carbs at about 5g a day and the weight loss stops. i've also tried to stay on the induction for longer but after the 14days the weight loss stops.

12 pounds in 2 weeks isn't something to sneeze at. Are you drinking enough water? How many Gms of carbs have you added?? Maybe it's too many for OWL? Or maybe something you're eating has too much sugar/carbs in it that you don't realise? Are you still losing inches? How about exercise, you bulking up (muscle weighs more than fat)? And the last question I can think of.....are you close to your goal weight?

Patience my friend, patience.

12 lbs WOW, give your body time to adjust. Did you get a chance to read atkins' book? well remember he said that when you want your wl to slow down, thats when you should be adding carbs. Another factor is, how many calories are you eating? maybe you'll need to lower them a bit. Try keeping your carbs at 25 and lowering your calories. JMHO.

Good luck.

From what I've read on these boards as well as what I've experienced, it is typical to stop losing weight for a couple weeks after induction. Just wait it out and keep your carbs in check. I found posting my food daily helps with this. It gives a plan as well as a way to know if you're at the right total each day.

12 pounds is great! Keep up the good work! Your body will adjust to those 12 pounds being gone and you'll soon see another drop in weight.

Si,

You will always come accross stall. Wait until Star gets on here, she'll set you straight  I have been at the same weight for 4 weeks, but like you I'm very close to my goal weight. Basically I think my body has stopped losing the weight to let the saggy skin catch up. But the reason I know this is because it has happened to me at regular intervals throughout my weight loss. So, just take a few and look back over your weight loss journey, maybe other areas are playing catch up while you are maintaining the weight.

I know it is frustrating, but just hang in there. Keep that picture in your head of the hot new you. DOn't get hung up on what the scale says, but how you look, how your clothes fit and how you are definitely a slimmer, healthier, happier YOU!

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Si - We've told you before, this is not a quick fix. Have you read the book? What are you eating? I know you exercise, so that's not an issue. But I can promise that if you're not eating the right things, you're going to have trouble.

i'm living on meat poultry and eggs mainly with one large portion of veg for lunch. i force myself to eat them but i hate them with a passion. excersise has stepped up i now train every night for my fight in november i need to get down to 95kg. which is 209. and when i can motivate myself i'll be running 2-3miles every morning.

StarPrincess 06-10-2004 05:07 PM

Sorry, pumpkin, but that could be your problem. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a 'meat and cheese diet'. That's how people get sick and do irreparable damage to their bodies.

Not only must you eat your veggies, you must eat veggies that provide your body with the nutrients it needs. If you're not giving your body what it needs, it will hang on to whatever it can get.

LOVE2C135 06-10-2004 05:37 PM

Si - I agree w/Star, but want to add a little something...

When I wasn't on Atkins and wasn't really dieting, I started running and that is what caused part of my initial loss. I don't know what it is about running, but it just seems to do the trick. Now if I could just get consistent!

StarPrincess 06-10-2004 06:00 PM

Hey Kerri - you're in Beaverton, right? Maybe we should make some jogging dates. ;)

lady_adnerb 06-10-2004 08:57 PM

Isn't it also true that if you're body is used to a certain exercise it doesn't "count" it? That you need to very the exercise?

slimmingsi 06-11-2004 12:19 PM

the body adapts to away of living yes you should change your excersise weekly i.e if your lifting changes sets / reps. and for cardio vary time and intensity instead of a 5 mile run try a 2 mile walk or maybe go cycling for a week instead
