Friday Chat

Good Morning Girlies!!!!

LoriAS 06-04-2004 07:33 AM

Just finished reading yesterday's post! Wow, you girls were busy!!

Karen and TG - I hope you are feeling better!

I didn't know Quizno's had low carb. They just recently opened here (about a year ago) and we still only have the original menu in our office. I'll have to call them and get a new menu. It sounds yummy!! Also, I loooooove Starbucks. Fortunately for me, there isn't one close or I'd probably have it everyday. Also, when I was in Florida they gave me heavy cream! I specifically asked for heavy cream or no cream...do you think they gave me 1/2 and 1/2??

Onward.... I didn't manage to get to the gym last night. So, I've officially begun my triathlon training. Anyone live near Ohio and want to do it with me??? I'm pretty confident about the biking and running...the swimming is really starting to intimidate me though! I was all ready to get in the pool last night at the Y only to find out that it was closed!! So I ended up just biking and running for as long as I could handle!

Is anyone aware that biking for long distances really makes the tush sore!!! Especially when it's a bit bonier that it used to be! Oh, and get this.

Good morning again everyone. I'll try to keep up today!

lady_adnerb 06-04-2004 08:37 AM

Lori- Sorry, I don't live near you. And even the thought of a triathlon intimidates me. I haven't tried running. I want to get a dog leash so I can start walking w/the dog. She needs exercise as much as I do. lol

Well, it's FINALLY Friday. It's also a half day of school for the girls and THEIR last day of school. So the youngest DD is having a picnic so I get to make lunches. DH is trying to cut down on carbs, made toast and then said "well, toast doesn't have much carbs in it does it?" I should have read him from the ingredients list  I TOLD him he wouldn't be able to stick w/it because he loves sandwiches too much. As for me? The cramps are back (like I knew they would). I didn't exercise yesterday and I probably won't get it in today either. I'm selling my MIL my treadmill. It's just taking up space and I can't motivate myself to use it. I'd rather do some type of other exercise. I'd LOVE to put a basketball hoop or even volleyball net up. THAT to me would be fun and oldest DD loves playing basketball.
I'm going to see Harry Potter tonight. YEAH!!! I'm trying to figure out how to stay away from the popcorn. This might just end up being another wasted weekend :( Sunday's the chicken bbq. argh!!!!!

Leenie 06-04-2004 08:48 AM

Good Morning,

HUGS :grouphug:

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and an OP one to boot.

Hiyah Lori !! good for you for going to the gym :bravo:

Hey Brenda, get this sh*t, I actually exercised two days in a row, but don't tell anyone, I wouldn't wanna ruin my reputation :s:

Well back to work for me.

Have a great one and SMOOCH!!

Leenie 06-04-2004 08:49 AM

Brenda bring some pork rinds to the movies or soy beans, but mostly ENJOY IT !!!!

Shimma 06-04-2004 08:50 AM

Morning all you crazy lovely people!

Ok, I have no reason to be as chipper as I am... but I'm pretty freaking chipper. The mulching I did yesterday... yeah, I ended up only doing half of the yard (my friend seriously ticked me off when she just HAD to prove she could do it in half the time I was doing it.... except when SHE did it she apparently didn't listen to any of her rules about the thickness of the mulch... ok... end of rant) and was outside for about 2.5 hours. I am sooooo burnt. Seriously, I cannot move my arms without feeling it. Ugh. I sooo should have used sunscreen, I'm so fair skinned, but honestly I didn't think it would do that much damage. Also, I didn't know mulching was such a freaking workout. I'm sore like, alllllllllllllllllllllll over. So, my question is... for 2.5 hours of mulching... how many equator trek miles can I put down? I also did some walking yesterday and some Tae Bo, but I couldn't handle his chipper upbeat attitude and kept smarting off to the TV. Yeah, I'm like that.

Lori: I'm not realllly close to Ohio but I wouldn't be against doing a long bike ride with you sometime this summer. I've been contemplating snatching my bike from the evil friend who hates me now... long story there but apparently she was mad because I never called for a year... when I didn't call ANYONE for a year because all my energy was going into taking care of my grandma.... I haven't ridden in a while but I should be able to get myself up to a 75 mile trip or greater in no time. You know, I think I still have my training schedule. I never once got sore when I was training for my ride through Death Valley. Let me know if you want me to dig that out for you. l You start small, but you build quickly. also, how many bike miles do you hafta go?

Brenda: Sorry to hear about the cramps. But I hope the movie rocks!!!!

Mrs H 06-04-2004 08:52 AM

Good Morning Ladies

Lori: Good luck with the triathalon training. Just thinking of all that makes me really tired! Hope you have a great weekend!

Brenda: Sorry that those cramps are back. Walking the dog sounds like a good idea. I tried it ONE time with Rocky. He weighs almost 100lbs and hates other dogs, needless to say he walked me. Never again! Have a good weekend, and have fun at the movies!

Well, it's back to work for me today! Work 9 hours tonight, and gotta be back in at 6 tomorrow morning! Hope everyone has a great weekend. Nothing planned yet for tomorrow night or Sunday for me yet! Probably will just get some rest!

Lisa

Mrs H 06-04-2004 08:55 AM

Lennie and Shimma: You both snuck in on me! Hope you both have a great weekend, and hope that sunburn feels better soon Shimma!

jane8760 06-04-2004 09:16 AM

busy already!

Well you can officially call me GRUMPY today  I just feel like crap! I am still not sleeping well, very stressed too AND I HAVE TO GO TO A STINKIN WEDDING SHOWER ON SUNDAY! *sigh*

I also found out that my oldest neice is in trouble. She has been having some emotional problems for the last couple of years. She is 22 now. I check her IM profile each day to see how depressed she is.....today was not good. Then my mother called me to tell me she talked to my sil last night and they don't know what to do about her. I called my neice this morning and she said she couldn't talk about it or she would be a mess. Sounded like she was going to start crying. I am really worried. I ADORE THIS GIRL. Unfortunately she takes after me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is why I figure if she talks to someone that has been there it would help. I also want her to go to a psychiatrist so that she can get on some meds and talk to someone.

So now I am grumpy, tired, stressed and worried! Like I needed this today.

I think I see a "happy pill" in my future today :D

Lori: I can't even imagine doing a triathalon. What a challenge. You are amazing to take that on. My butt gets sore just riding my bike to the mailbox for cryin out loud!

Brenda: Backyard games would be such a great way to get in the exercise. I used to love crochet (sp), wiffle ball games, bocci (sp yet again) ball.

Leenie: My plan for the weekend would be to park my @$$ on the couch and not move.....not once....BUT I HAVE TO GO TO THIS STINKIN SHOWER THIS WEEKEND....oh there I go again.

Shimma: Go get your bike back! It is yours. Tell her to screw! :o Oh my....listen to me today!

Lisa: Walking a 100 lb. dog who hates other dogs? :fr: Good exercise I bet.

Well I am going to try and get some work done......was at the office till 6:15 last night!!!! That didn't help my mood I can tell you.

jane8760 06-04-2004 09:18 AM

OH AND MY WEIGHT IS STILL UP!

There....I'm done.

Theo'sgirl 06-04-2004 10:25 AM

Jane sorry about your niece, I was a very troubled teenager and young adult and very depressed most of the time, you are doing the right thing, just talk to her, let her cry it out and know someone is there for her. That is the best you can do and it will help immensly to know she can trust you and you are there. Try to stay away from meds if at all possible they just mask the real problem and it never gets fixed, then when you want to go off them it is hard and you have to deal with the emotions you put on hold while you were on meds and you are right back at the beginning again. But I think what you are doing to help her is great and I wish I had someone like you when I was her age.

Talk to eveyone else later and I hope you all have an excellent day!!!

StarPrincess 06-04-2004 11:26 AM

It's Friiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiday ! :dancer:

Lori - www.quiznos.com has the nutritional information so you can be all prepared by the time you get there. It really is to die for! And I'm very aware of the sore tush factor. That's why I got a gel seat ;)

Brenda - Wooo hooo! Harry Potter! If you manage to avoid the popcorn, please let me know how you did it. I'm terrible about that. I'm going to just have to start plugging my nose and racing through the lobby to get away from it.

Leenie - Have a great weekend!

Shimma - Love the new avatar! :D As for the mulching, every 20 minutes of exercise counts as a mile, so 2.5 hours would be right around 7 miles.

Lisa - Working weekends must suck! How do you do it?

Jane - do you know that stress causes your body to hang on to fat? Chill, baby, chill! ;)

TG - Hey, baby! Have a great weekend!

So I did barely a thing last night. I was sooooooooo tired and it was so nice and warm and I took a nap and never really woke up. So by 8:30, I decided that I might as well go to bed. The problem was that the neighbors were having a party and so between their intermittant noise, having to keep the windows closed in a hot room, and the dogs barking every 5 minutes, sleep wasn't working out real well for me. Then DH came home from work around 11 and wanted to talk about his day :tired: After that, it quieted down, though, and I actually slept really well.

Today, we're going to a bbq at a friend's house. It's supposed to be in the 80's again today and it's going to be soooooo nice! We're supposed to bring whatever we want to drink and I'm thinking that this is perfect weather for sitting on the porch drinking a glass of Shiraz.

Ok, to work with me! Have a great day and weekend!

jane8760 06-04-2004 11:27 AM

Theo'sgirl: Thank you. I am a big believer in meds when necessary though. If it wasn't for drugs I would never have been able to get my @$$ out of bed when I was younger. And I don't think they really mask the problem they just give you breathing room to be able to better deal with them. You need to get out of your hole first before you can fill it in.

jane8760 06-04-2004 11:29 AM

Star: I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT! I have been wicked stressed this week and maybe that explains why it is just not budging. Thanks

jdoggmartin 06-04-2004 11:34 AM

Lekker: Wait until your thesis is done, young lady! :D

TG: How are you feeling? Still fighting off that cold? I hope you start feeling better soon!

Karen: Thanks so much for the Starbucks tip! I didn't even feel like an idiot ordering. Oh, and the choice was tasty, too. Thanks for all your help. I'm not kidding when I say that place intimidates me!

Lori: I'm so impressed at your triatholon efforts! That is fabulous. I'm quite a ways from Ohio, but when you move to Florida, I'll start training with you! :D

Brenda: I hope you get to feeling better. Your TOM just sounds miserable (not that they all aren't, but yours seems particularly miserable).

Leenie: Exercising, huh? I'll keep quite... SHHH! Great job!

Shimma: Sunburns are terrible. I feel for you. By the way, nice new avatar photo!

MrsH: Don't work too much!

Jane: I'm so sorry to hear about everything, especially your niece. I hope things get worked out.

Well, I'm still managing to stay on induction. Well, I'm not sure if SF coffee syrups are necessarily on the induction list, but that would be my only goof so far, which really impresses me! I'm really going to try and stick induction out for two full weeks. Surely, that will help get me jumpstarted again.

I'm not sure what all the plans are for this weekend. On Sunday, a group of us are going to a festival in a park by the bay. Local restaurants have food booths set up, so you can sample their food, for anywhere from $1-4. That could be dangerous, but I'm really going to try and watch myself. They are also having concerts. I really didn't recognize anyone on Sunday. Apparently, people are excited about Eddie Money, though. I guess he's a singer from the '80s??? Oh, well. I guess I will be well educated about him come Monday.

Tonight, I am just itching to get out and do something fun. I really have the urge to drink, but being on induction, I guess that isn't a good idea. I'm terribly restless, though, and I just want to go out and party. We'll see what happens...

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Take care,
Jina

jdoggmartin 06-04-2004 11:35 AM

Star: An early night to bed, huh? I know you'll be back in true form this weekend. Have fun at the BBQ!

LoriAS 06-04-2004 11:46 AM

Morning again! My you girls are a busy bunch!!!

Brenda - I think you would enjoy running or biking if you got into a beginner training program. You sound like you have a lot of energy to burn ;) Check out the beginner programs on www.coolrunning.com or www.beginnertriathlete.com I've look at both of them and they seem really simple and the sites are loaded with good info!

Leenie - Congrats on the 2 days in a row. That is definitely inspirational!!! I've been so bad lately. I get all set to start training...train one day and take 4 off...not good!!! Maybe we need a challenge to see how many days in a row we can move...what would be the prize???

Shimma - Ouch on the sunburn!! I'm fairskinned also, and if I stayed in the sun for 2+ hours without sunscreen I'd be in the hospital!!! That sounds fun about the biking. Although I must say that 75 miles sounds a bit intimidating to me at the moment! I have to do 18 in the race in August. How far from the Ohio ST line are you. I'm 45 minutes from Fort Wayne IN. We also have friend in Chicago and Go there on occaision (sp?). Also, I'd love to get a copy of that training schedule and take a look at it!

MrsH - while my training may make you tired...Your work shedule kills me...how do you do it? You do take time for yourself, don't you? I think that is probably the one thing that we can all say got us here. we didn't take time for ourselves!

Jane - I think that it is a good idea for you to be a shoulder to lean on for your niece. I try to do it with mine as well. She has had a horrible life with her parents being complete idiots (my sister included) and I've tried to be there for her. She isn't depressed or if she is doesn't know it...she's only 12. But I can see it in her future! I'm praying she doesn't have to deal with it though!

Star - I have been checking out the gel seats. But I'm borrowing friends bike for the race. (I think I'm getting it this weekend) So, I want to find out how hers is outfitted before I go and buy one! thanks for the link to Quiznos...I tried to talk the office into it today, but not enough to buy. Oh, my I looked at the menu and the look wonderful. Where do you find flatbread? Is there someplace I'm missing it at the grocery store??

I made this killer cauliflower casserole...I think one of you posted it!! oh, my it was delic! just cauliflower, onions, mozz and pam cheese and sourcream.....Yum!!! Hubby and children even ate it!!!

jane8760 06-04-2004 11:47 AM

OH MY GOD Jdogg....you just made me feel old! I remember Eddie Money. And yes he was popular in the 80's! WHEN I WAS IN MY 20's

Oh somebody shoot me now......oh wait....never mind....some of you know how to use a gun! :D

LoriAS 06-04-2004 11:48 AM

Jina - You snuck in on me....Have a great time out tonight!!!

Lekker 06-04-2004 12:49 PM

Good day everyone!

Lori - good luck with your triathalon training!

Brenda - your DH - toast - so funny! My dad would never be able to survive on Atkins, his love of bread knows no boundaries. I swear, he'd feel like a king if we only fed him bread and butter...

Leenie - two days in a row! Woo!

Shimma - smarting off to the TV? Ha! Did it fight back? :)

MrsH - what is this crazy place for which you work?! So many hours!

Jane - sorry you're feeling grumpy today, and that's too bad about your neice. It's good that you're there for her.

Hi there, Theo!

Star - have fun at the bbq. Ah, 80's...it must be minus fifty thousand degrees in my office right now. Why oh why did I wear short sleaves??

Jina - Okay - I'm working on my thesis, now. :^: (But I just got all this tourist information from Scotland yesterday in the mail, even a CD with videos...how can I resist the temptation??) :D Food booths definitely = dangerous! And don't worry, I have no idea who Eddie Money is either!

I'm over working at the space agency again today, and that's why I'm freezing. Climate control problems here, for sure. But at least it's sunny and beautiful outside. Although yesterday it was pretty nice all day, though we had a weird bout of hail between 5 and 6 pm, which I nearly got caught in!

We have the most aggravating landlady in my apartment building. My housemate and I have a couple of issues that we need to deal with, with her. So the landlady was supposed to come by at 2:30 in the afternoon yesterday (when my housemate is done work). But, the landlady comes by at 9:30am (when only I am at home) and insists that the appointment was for 9:30am. She's such a liar because there is no way that my housemate would have made the appointment for the morning because she works *every* morning, *every* day of the year. She comes walking in, all wearing her designer clothes (of course, I was up late and starting late yesterday, so I'm in the grungiest of all outfits) and being all snooty like it wasn't at all possible that she made a mistake with the appointments. She never answers her phone either, or responds to letters. You honestly have to use registered mail to send her requests so that you have proof that you've spoken to her about your issues if it comes to the time that you might have to go to the rental board! It's ridiculous.

And Harry Potter! Woo! I'm a big Harry Potter fan. I told a friend that I'd go with him next week, after all the hype died down. But I dont' think I can wait. I think I'll sneak in and see it on my own and just not tell him. I did the same thing for the last Star Trek movie, too. I'm such a liar to all my friends!! :)

lady_adnerb 06-04-2004 03:30 PM

I can't wait to go to the movie. Only 1/2 hour more to go. And I was SO determined throughout the day that I WAS going to stay away from the popcorn. But then realised my DD's would be sitting next to me munching away and I just KNOW my hand'll be in that bucket. So just to make sure it's a little more friendly for me I'll make sure it doesn't have butter  I'm trying to stay out of the sun until my skin has a chance to re-learn what it's like. I'm white and I truly only have 2 colors. White and red. We did some of our grocery shopping and got off cheap. I love Aldi's!!! They're great for getting cheap food for the girls (that the girls actually like). And with summer here our grocery bill'll be more expensive.

lady_adnerb 06-04-2004 03:31 PM

LEENIE!!! Congrats on doing exercise!!! You're one up on me! I'm gonna have to get my fluffybutt in gear or you'll majorly disgrace me  Ok, you already have. I admit defeat. Keep up the good work!

jane8760 06-04-2004 03:53 PM

Well, work has calmed down a bit this afternoon.....phew!

Feeling more grounded now after my melt down this morning.

So, dh calls and tells me that we are going out to dinner with another couple tonight. These are the sweetest people and I really enjoy seeing them. Hope we go somewhere where I can be good. Having had the kind of week I have had I could be lead astray in the "good" department.

Brenda: How about bringing some snacks for you like the pork rinds Leenie mentioned. They are crunchy and that way you might stay away from the popcorn. Just bring a bunch in a zip lock bag.

Lekker: I meant to tell you yesterday when you mentioned Ireland....one of my neices is over there going to school this past semester. She is coming home this weekend as a matter of fact. She was at Cork University. I have kept in touch with her by email and instant message so that is fun. She spent her spring break traveling to Paris, Italy and Spain! Geez.....pays to be young I guess....and have your parents paying for everything :D

Lori: I still can't bring myself to like cauliflower *bleck* But broccoli has been a big hit with me. Maybe I could substitute.
Isn't it awful to see someone in trouble and not be able to do anything for them. My mother was going to run over to their house to see her and I said "what do you think you are going to do?" She said "just be there"....I couldn't help it but the child in me said to myself "where were you when I needed you?"

Jina: you always have fun things planned. Have a great time snacking your way through the event. And enjoy Eddie Money

Star, Star, Star: what will we do with you? What the heck kind of vitamins do you take to have the energy you do? I want those! Question.....is tecquila ok if I use a sugar free mix? I love margaritas!

Thinking of one right about now :chin:

StarPrincess 06-04-2004 04:01 PM

Tequila's always ok in my book - but I tend to just take it in straight shots. :s: But yes, it's really fine. 0 Carbs. For a pretty good margarita, try tequila, Baja Bob's Desert Lime Margarita Mix, and Diet Sprite to even it out. The mix is only 1 or 2 carbs per 4 ounces, I think. Very yummy!

Speaking of yummy.....DH brought me a Chicken Carbonara flatbread sandwich from Quiznos. Drool.............. I'm so very happy now!

jane8760 06-04-2004 04:09 PM

Thanks Star

Isn't the Baja Bob's stuff sugar free? It still has carbs though.

StarPrincess 06-04-2004 04:14 PM

yup on both counts. there's more to carbs than just sugar ;) you can go to www.bajabobs.com and check it out!

frodo 06-04-2004 04:36 PM

hey! I think I might go to harry potter as well! Not 100% sure.

I am going to wal-mart... then to the gym.. then to work for a couple hours.. anyways how is everyone doing this afternoon?
I seem to have a lot of energy today, not sure why exactly but it is awesome!

frodo 06-04-2004 04:37 PM

Oh yeah I got a good deal on crystal light last night, it says 0carbs is this really true? It is kind of expensive even though it was on sale...

jane8760 06-04-2004 04:49 PM

Thanks Star

Goodnight everyone I am going home!

Theo'sgirl 06-04-2004 04:54 PM

Good afternoon busy ladies!! I will say Hi to everyone all at one time.

well DH is home with and ear infection and cold now, he is going to the Dr. today. The Ds's are finally over their colds, just the residual left overs. I am starting to feel back to my normal self. Have a busy weekend planned, Rose festival starts tonight and I wanted to go to that, tomorrow is the VW Bug In at the Woodburn dragstrip. I need to hit the VW swat meet and pick up some parts for the Karmann Ghia, then later that night is my nephews graduation party. Sunday I will probably be collapsed!! ahahahahaha

SP: can you believe this weather!!! I had to pull the fans outta storage! LOVE IT!!

StarPrincess 06-04-2004 05:15 PM

Frodo - you showed up! :D

Jane - thanks a lot. Now I'm taking stuff for margaritas to the BBQ today.

TG - I forgot Rose Festival started this weekend! I'm dying to go in that thing that looks like a giant sling shot and shoots you straight up in the air. Wanna go? ;) This weather is fabulous! I'm so very happy!

BTW, TG, you said on yesterday's thread that your youngest DH graduated preschool? First, isn't it illegal to have more than one of those at a time? Second, isn't it illegal to have of of those so young?

lady_adnerb 06-04-2004 07:37 PM

Crystal Light I think you still have to count the aspartame? I could be wrong.

Oh.....I didn't miss the popcorn (or the stupid rootbeer. argh!) and Harry Potter was EXCELLENT. Well, I don't think it's one of the better ones. But still interesting!

Im glad I could help! I am addicted to americanos!

EDDIE MONEY! I Love EDDIE MONEY! (Yep im a girl of the 80s) He is actually from my home town! Have you ever heard the song "Two Tickets to Paradise?" Two tickets to paradise.. You can pack your bags we leave tonight... I love that song!!

He was pretty hot in the 80s.. now hes looking pretty old...

lady_adnerb 06-04-2004 09:46 PM

It's pretty bad when we date ourselves like that  I can always recognise songs but never really know who sings them.

KarenW 06-04-2004 11:21 PM

Ok.. Im back. I need to post because I did something that I have never ever done on atkins.

I ate a piece of cake! :(:(:(:( :o :o :o :o

I made this cake on Saturday for my hubby. He at 1 piece and told me to save it for the kids. Well they have only eaten 2 or 3 pieces total... so it has been sitting on the counter. I was making a single cup of coffee and while I was waiting... I took a piece (Small ) just to see if it was still good (so I told myself.) then I went on to finish the slice!

When I realized what I had done.. i picked up the whole pan, dumped it in the garbage and brought the garbage out to the big dumpster outside. So That wont be happening again.

Anyway. i am feeling better now that I confessed... Now I need to go to bed. I spent 5 hours at the zoo today with my sons class! Im so tired
