New on Atkins- questions! HELP!

Hi everyone- I am starting atkins this weekend, the induction phase. I am a bit confused about counting carbs- i know i am only to have 20. Do I count my 2-3 cups of lettuce and salad veggies as part of that 20? Or is it seperate? Also, do I count the cheese I eat as part of the carbs, or is it seperate?

Any advice you can give would be helpful. Should I buy SF jello or the shakes for induction? OR wait until phase 2?

Thanks so much!!!!
Judy

During induction you can't have anything that's not on the induction list. Unless you're not doing a "strict" induction. But to truly to induction you should do the first 2 weeks strictly by the book. You DO count lettuce, cheese and everything as part of your carb count. It tells in the back of the book how much each would be carb wise. If you haven't checked out the "FAQ" thread and other informational threads (I think there's a new one for "Newbies") I suggest that also. They give GREAT information. Good luck (Oh, Make sure you've read the book) & Welcome!!

Hi and welcome!

As you now know - ALL CARBS must be counted - and you'd be surprised where they hide out (1 cup of coffee = 1 carb!).

You may wish to visit www.fitday.com and get yourself a free account where you can "count" your carbs/fibre and maintain the right ratios for weight loss (65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs)......some people also monitor their calories as well altho this is not always a necessity!

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Its Total Carbs Minus Fiber = The carbs you should count towards your total for that day.
