Thursday-2/5

I'm awake....I think  It's almost Friday!! It's the only thing keeping me going!!! Add to that we're supposed to get snow (the weather people really don't know HOW much. Could be as much as 6 inches or as little as 2). Of course my kids will hope for the 6 AND hope that the school cancels (for a change).
I have to remember not to step on the scale! lol. The 2 pounds that were down is now only 1 pound down. But I'm hoping to drop the other 1 by Saturday. If not, at least 1 is gone :smug:

So how is YOUR Thursday going so far? Hope you all have a great day :)

Leenie 02-05-2004 08:55 AM

Good Morning Brenda and Everyone to come.

Mama bird (boss) is here today so I can't play, not that I do anyways sheeeeeeeeeeh :s:

Any good plans for the weekend ?

jane8760 02-05-2004 09:20 AM

oooooooohhhhh dear. Jane was a bad girl last night and is paying for it today. I went out with a friend I used to work with. We had dinner and then a few glasses of non-carb friendly wine :fr: Well needless to say it wasn't pretty.
Didn't get home until 11:00! Hubby was sound asleep snoring like a buzzsaw.
I'm sure he missed me ;)

Well onto better things today. Just had some cheese for breakfast...that is all I wanted. Now to tame the cravings that are sure to come. I am thinking.....meatball sub  . Don't worry....I have my salad for lunch.

chat more later...have an install to do.

Shimma 02-05-2004 09:26 AM

Good morning all.
I'm soooo slow to start this morning which is probably due to the fact that I couldn't get to sleep last night for some reason. I've got parent-teacher conferences today which, thankfully... my boss is letting me out of most of them!!!! Woo Hoo! The one time I'm actually glad I have class. Well, I'm pretty sure my class is going to be canceled anyway because we're supposed to get 6-7 inches of snow by tomorrow starting early afternoon today. I can't even begin to describe how tired I am of driving on crappy roads. Grrrrr
Oh well, if it all works out like I want it to, I'll be at class for an hour or two, it will get called off and I'll go home earlier than all of my coworkers. heheheheheh
The one thing that's going to get me today is the PotLuck. Every conference day all the teachers bring in a dish... and it's usually such yummy food.... After debating for a LONG time, I decided not to even attend. I'm going to go out to lunch with a fellow coworker or two and my student teacher. I figure the further away I am from all those yummy desserts that will be there, the better off I am!!!
Ok, it's back to my workbook... 20 chapters left and counting by next Saturday!! (I think I can, I think I can I think I can....)

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 10:25 AM

Good morning!

Brenda - I know you can do it!

Leenie - Sorry about mama bird! I'll miss you!

Jane - what wine is non-low carb friendly? Unless it was a sweet white wine... What did you drink?

Shimma - smart move on the potluck!

I'm still pretty darn happy this morning - even if I am exhausted! DH called last night on his way home from work to say that the head bartender at the bar where he works asked him to come in and talk for a few minutes. Well, I don't like this girl and I certainly don't trust her, so I pitched a bit of a fit. I was so tired and didn't want to wait up for him longer but I sure wasn't going to go to sleep until he got home. (He doen't normally get home until 10:40 at night as it is!)

We ended up compromising and he came and picked me up so I wouldn't have to walk in the cold through our semi-scary neighborhood and we went there together. The bartender wanted to know why he quit and when he explained that he wanted to be able to spend time with me, she shot me a dirty look and started whining about how she really needed him to stay. Guess who won? :s:

So he works there this Saturday and then on Friday the 20th because there's going to be a huge birthday party (we're talking 100 people just for the party!) and he had already committed to working for that and then he's DONE! So I'm still doing a happy dance. :dancer:

Not much new other than that. I went and had a couple of low-carb beers with a friend last night in celebration of dh's news. I know, hypocritical, huh? And then I learned that another friend who has hooked up with a not so good guy is giving her kid benedryl every night to make him go to sleep so he doesn't wake up and annoy the bf at night. Argh! Can you believe that? What is she thinking?

Anyway, time to work! TTYL!

jane8760 02-05-2004 10:30 AM

Star: I just had too much of it that's all......I cut each with ice and water but still.....to much for a weeknight.
Do you by any chance have a definitive answer on the carbs in a glass of white wine. Each list I look at says something different. The average glass is 6 oz. Fitday says that 4oz. is 1 gram. Do you know if that is true?

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 10:30 AM

OMG - Mr. Mucus just came into work! Why? Why? Did he have to come back? I've been so nice and nausea free without having to listen to that disgusting-ness! And I left my Limp Bizkit cd at home - crap!!!! :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:

jane8760 02-05-2004 10:32 AM

Star: that answers my question from yesterday. I was wondering where he has been.

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 10:34 AM

That is true for a dry-ish white wine (Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio). It will be higher for a sweeter white (Reisling, some table wines, Zinfindel). I'm a red wine girl myself. I adore Pinot Noir, but have recently discovered Shiraz and I'm pretty dang fond of that, too!

You put water and ice in it? I thought that was only reserved for Boone's Ferry or boxed wine....

jdoggmartin 02-05-2004 10:36 AM

Brenda: Any amount of weight that comes off is good in my book -- just as long as it doesn't come on!

Leenie: Awww. That's no fun. :p

Jane: Hope you had fun with your friend! Meatball sub: BAD. :nono: Salad: GOOD. :D

Shimma: Good for you for avoiding the big potluck. It's better to not even be around tempting food. Be safe driving!

It's supposed to be beautiful here again today -- maybe into the 80s. I'll see if I can drag the dog out for another long walk. She's excited at first and goes way too hard. Then, she gets pooped and lays down. Too bad she doesn't understand moderation.

I really need to get back into doing Pilates again. I was doing it every other day, and then I stopped. I'm not sure why, and now I can't get back into it.

This weekend will be busy. On Saturday, I am going to Kansas to visit my dad for the day. I'll leave that morning and fly back that evening. Yes, it's pretty crazy, but DH works for an airline, and we have free flight benefits. So, I figure we might as well use them. Then, on Sunday, we are going to Orlando for another NBA game -- Magic vs. Lakers. Can't wait!

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

Take care,
Jina

jdoggmartin 02-05-2004 10:40 AM

Wow! I took WAY too long to post!

Star: Glad the news is still good! Sorry to hear Mr. Mucus is back in action. You have quite the work crew -- everyone from a phone-sex operator to Mr. Mucus!!

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 02:24 PM

I have a very exciting life ;)

Where is everyone today? It's pretty quiet around here....

Shimma 02-05-2004 02:30 PM

I'm here....... working away on that stupid stupid workbook. I've never had so much busy work in my life.

That and I have the hiccups. Any suggestions for a cure?????

jane8760 02-05-2004 02:31 PM

It is awful quiet around here.

Thanks for the info on the wine StarPrincess. I think I need to stay away from it completly but like you I just love the stuff so dang much :D

jane8760 02-05-2004 02:38 PM

By the way............... Here is the grand total for that meatball sub I DIDN'T have today (53 carbs - 6 fiber = 47) :fr:
That would have been disasterous :D

lady_adnerb 02-05-2004 02:56 PM

Shimma---take a deep breath after you hiccup and then take 10 swallows of water (one right after the other w/out taking a breath in between). Works for me.

Star---I haven't been around long enough...Do I want to ask about Mr. Mucus?

jdoggmartin--I looked for a pilates tape here. Thought I'd give it a try, but they didn't have any. Guess I'll have to wait until I go to the next city to look for that also.

jane--was it because it was "a few glasses" or because it was low-carb that you feel the way you do?? lol I haven't had a drink in AGES!!!!!

Leenie---Hope you're having a good day :)

Trazzie 02-05-2004 03:04 PM

 You girls crack me up.. as for Mr. Mucus.. I believe I work with his brother! The god aweful sounds this man makes ..it's simply nauseating.

Nothing fun or exciting happening around here.. work work work.. I haven't even so much as made a dent in my laundry.. this is the task that never ends and I really don't have ambition today to jump back on that horse today.
My mother searching the sites has found a recipe for pancakes.. ones with all the approved ingredients for induction.. soooo I'm drooling.. she made up a batch and they were just yummy. I'll post the recipe later... Noone should miss out on these :)

lady_adnerb 02-05-2004 03:15 PM

trazzie---what did you put on the pancakes or are they the kind you don't need anything on them???? Ok, I'm drooling already! lol

Trazzie 02-05-2004 03:19 PM

I didn't put anything on them.. there is cinnamon and splenda in them so they are sweet enough on their own. However, Ive been reading up on all those syrups you girls are talking about.. I'm sure they would taste delicious with them... Ok I'll go post the recipe now

lady_adnerb 02-05-2004 03:22 PM

*sits down to wait...HOpefully having everything to make them for breakfast tomorrow* :)

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 03:25 PM

I have to say that I didn't like the DaVinci pancake syrup. Atkins is ok. Walden Farms is really pretty good (and no calories, too!) I've been too lazy to go out and buy special syrup so I take vanilla sf syrup, mix it with a little water and artificial maple flavoring and call it good.

Ok, Brenda, you asked for it! Mr. Mucus is a guy that sits somewhere on the aisle on the other side of my cube wall. He's got some disgusting problem that causes him to snort, hawk, hack, gag, and make all sorts of repulsive sounds from the time he comes in until around 3 in the afternoon. It may go on all day, I'm not sure since I leave at 3:30 at the latest. It's sooooo gross!

There are several people who have talked to him and tried introducing him to tissues, but either he doesn't get it or he just doesn't care. It is, however, completely in his control because I've heard him on conference calls and he doesn't do any of the gross stuff then!

lady_adnerb 02-05-2004 03:38 PM

oh ICK!!!!!! And I suppose the bosses can't do a thing seeing how he controls it during business calls. But still---ICK!!!! Ok. Sorry I asked!!! lol

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 03:45 PM

 That'll teach you to ask questions!

Jane - excellent job on not eating the sandwich of death!

lady_adnerb 02-05-2004 03:46 PM

But..But..How else am I supposed to get to know you all? Um, guess I just need to learn WHEN to ask questions :D

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 03:54 PM

I live by the philosophy of "don't ask unless you're prepared for the answer."

Argh! I'm so restless! I want to go home now, but I still have 1.5 hours to go. ugh!

jjcj 02-05-2004 04:00 PM

EWWWWWWWWWWW thanks for the detailed info Star. I had the pic from his name LOL.
You americans are so lucky. I went today to a bigger grocery store to look for stuff and couldn't find anything but BARS. I did buy some soy powder. 20 bucks and ICK.
YOu mix it with water and is to be good for you. LOL Choke it down. I think I might mix it with some splenda or somthing. Gotta drink it at that price.

Maybe next thing is to go to a health food store and look. They had whey powder as well but I have heard Soy is good for woman.
I bought some Crystal light individual pacs yesterday but they have Nutrosweet.
Mixed in with a bottle of water so that is 2 waters that don't taste like water I guess.

I also got some of the sticks. I will go pee on one later. He he he hopefully not my hand Star.

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 04:20 PM

LOL - good luck, Jjcj. I actually don't like all the "convenience" foods around here. I have found that I feel much better if I roll up my sleeves and make it myself from fresh ingredients. :D

Which reminds me....has anyone been near the frozen food section lately? Both Lean Quisine and WW Smart Ones now have "low-carb" frozen meals. Argh! And looking at the ingredient list has convinced me that I wouldn't eat that stuff unless it was a dire emergency.

jane8760 02-05-2004 04:28 PM

Going to the store tonight....will have to check that out. I am not a big fan of frozen dinners thank God.

Lady: I think it was the quantity not the quality that did me in.....just found out hubby feels a little peekish today also. He went out to play while I was away last night. :smug:

jdoggmartin 02-05-2004 05:02 PM

No! I didn't know they had low-carb meals. Interesting... I guess I should have known. Everyone has low-carb something-or-other these days. I used to live in the frozen food aisle. I always ate Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine meals, and I was always hungry and kept getting fatter -- go figure! Anyway, I don't think I'll even venture over to that aisle to look at them. I'm much happier preparing food and eating fresh vegetables. Tastes a lot better, too! :D

Those pancakes sound tasty. Thanks for the recipe, Trazzie! I don't like syrup, so I'll just eat them plain. Always have...

Well, I'm off to venture to the Goodwill to see if I can find some jeans that fit. I think I might be ready for size 12s!! Also, I'm running to Wal-Mart. I absolutely love Wal-Mart!!!

StarPrincess 02-05-2004 05:07 PM

I was just so amused that Weight Watchers, of all organizations, is trying to sell low carb stuff now. Aren't they the ones who say low carb is bad? Ah, what people will do for money! :dizzy:

Have fun shopping, Jina! I want to see pictures of you in those 12's that I know are going to fit!

StorybookMama 02-05-2004 06:01 PM

Good afternoon everyone...

So, left for "lunch" at 9:30 this morning to go get my hair done for
the wedding next weekend. My hair gal only works M-Th so I only get
my hair done when I absolutely need it since I have to go during my
regular work hours. I wouldn't have gone now except for the wedding.

I got back at 1:30 after sitting through 2.5 hours of color, cut,
style and a brow/lip wax. That was a very long lunch, so now I'll
have to claim some sick time to make up for it. Nothing like the
honor system to keep me honest. =)

My boss was wondering where I had disappeared to. Hopefully when he
gets back from his meeting he'll be a typical "guy" and won't notice
the fact that my hair is now a different color, curly and salon
styled instead of straight out of the shower, and that my lip and
brows are a slightly pink color...

=)

Spedmom 02-05-2004 08:00 PM

Evening everyone!

Way too much stuff for me to respond individually, but wanted to comment on the soy powder that JJCJ tried.

I use the recipe from the Atkins book for pancakes which uses soy powder, eggs, & water. Problem is, it makes shi**y pancakes!! An absolute gag fest. BUT......I've discovered another use. I make the concoction, then add spices (like garlic powder, chili powder, etc.), fry up little pancakes with it, then top them with chicken, beef, or something like that. Sprinkle some shredded cheese on the top, put them under the broiler, and YUMMMMMMM! If you make the pancakes large enough (which you can do by adding a little extra water), you can make wraps. Give it a whirl girls!

Froufy 02-05-2004 09:27 PM

Almost Friday and I'm hanging in for the weekend. No major plans but we do have a sitter for sat nite so hoping to go out - altho we are experiencing a "negative cash flow" situation so may have to limit our fun!

JJ - where are you located?

Star - sorry to hear about Mr. Mucus.....definitely need those ear plugs or distracting music.

SBM - bet you look gorgeous and you're right, the boss probably won't notice! I am trying to get an appt on the 14th - fully booked and this means I may have to take some "work time" off as well - not sure I can fit this in!

Back in the office today - found some huge big binders on my desk, a brochure for a conference I'm going to attend in April??? and that I am scheduled to go on project management training next week? I THINK NOT!!! Filed binder away for later reading - yes to conf in April - will be attending with a new co-worker colleague who is soon to be hired....and rescheduling the project mgmt training....very busy next week with a consultant we have hired doing one on one interviews with different project leaders on developing aperformance measurement framework (have I bored you to tears yet?)

The most amazing news is my supervisor/friend who hired me, came to my office today and gave me some great "positive reinforcement"...said I was doing a great job "picking up the ball and running with it"....and getting things done! I was SO HAPPY, yet shocked, for as you know I feel so overwhelmed and out of my league in this job, so this was so reaffirming - it almost makes me cry!

I miss my dh even tho we live together - have not seen him for several evenings as he has been working late (monday and tuesday)...I was out at the NYLONS CONCERT last night (which was amazingly fabulous)...tonight he is jamming at a friend's place and I hope he's not home too late! We have a five minute chat in our ensuite every morning but that is usually interrupted by one or more children. I will be so happy when weekend gets here and we can relax and catch up - I have so much to tell him...and going out sat nite will also help (altho we are both so tired we can barely stay up past 10)

Had a run in with some chocolate chip cookie dough this evening - I will try not to obsess about it - but needless to say I should not have ventured anywhere near the stuff! Thought I was stronger (sigh!).

Expecting huge snow tomorrow (as we finish digging out from yesterday's huge snowfall)....kids are excited - I am not - getting dug out again in the morning and driving to work will be challenging to say the least.

Started bc pills two days ago....and my period is now just diminishing (day 11)...this is very weird. I think I might try that back to back pill taking next cycle......assuming I don't have some of that intermittent spotting - if so I think a visit to dr is in order - probably need different brand with differing levels of estrogen/progestin??? What about Seasonale...the one specifically developed for longer term use?

Time to go catch the girls whup the boys on The Apprentice! ha ha.

Hope everyone else is well and planning a fun and relaxing weekend!

Froufy:)

lady_adnerb 02-05-2004 09:32 PM

The snowstorm has arrived and so has my headache. It's been thumping for quite a few hours now. So this one must be a doozy. And DH leaves for work in a 1/2 hour. He'll be working from 10-6? So far this week he's worked 12 hour days. I can understand what Froufy is talking about when she says she misses DH!!! The only time I get to talk to him (if I dare) is when he's showering. Otherwise I get to wake him up (oh joy-growly bear!!). Told him to call in and tell them he couldn't make it. But he's awake now. I'll have to make sure to go out and start his car early to warm it up. (if I don't start it he doesn't-just gets in, starts it and goes) UGH!!! I hate headaches!!

Does Tylenol affect weight loss? How about sinus meds??

Shimma 02-05-2004 09:58 PM

What kind of sinus meds? I have allergies that give me chronic sinusitis... so I'm on a steroid nasal spray and the occasial super-decongestant, and even more occasionally allegra.... So far I think my weight is coming off ok, so MY meds don't seem to be affecting me.
As for OTC sinus meds, stay away from sudafed (have no idea of the spelling) because that coating has GOT to have sugar cause it tastes like candy!!!

Theo'sgirl 02-05-2004 10:07 PM

Good evening ladies,
just stopping by to say Hi cause I have been in meetings with VP's all day and I have a sick kid. But I just wanted to say HI CHICKS!!!
