The equator trek is our exercise challenge for 2004. It's open to anyone who wants to join in. The object is to do enough exercise to get around the equator. We add up "miles" that can be calculated 2 ways. If you're doing something that can be measured in miles like walking or running, then you just count the miles. If you do something that isn't measureable like that, like aerobics or weight-lifting, then every 20 minutes counts as a mile. We're keeping personal, monthly, and annual totals. :D

I hate eating lunch at my desk

My friend that I used to have lunch with left the company when she adopted a baby and it seems everyone else in this place hardly ever goes into the lunch room! I end up just cruzin the web and eating at my desk now. I hate it. It is too cold to go out and go shopping.....bbbbbbrrrrr. And the way our parking lot is you never know if you will get a space when you get back.

Made a chef salad for lunch today. Didn't have any creamy italian and no time to make any this morning so the salad dressing I picked isn't thrilling me.
But at least I am being good. There is candy galore in this office!!!!!!! It seems every isle I go down someone has a jar of candy. M&M's over here, Starbursts over there! What's a girl to do? :?:

Star: I'm sorry about the position....I too am a big believer in things happen for a reason and if it is meant to be it will be. Hang in there.

Good morning all,
Well, after the seeing the same #'s on the scale for a week, I have decided that I should go back to the induction phase for a few days. I will hate leaving the macadamia nuts behind. But, it's the price I have to pay. Maintenence, and tweaking the diet... It seems like alot of planning. I think about what I should be changing all the time. First on the list is working out. Bellydancing sounds cool, Lord knows I have the belly for it. Wish me luck girls.... I need it.

Day to Day

Well, it's Monday.

Weekend was looong. Two weekends in a row now my dh has had anaphylactic reactions to something he has eaten. This makes me get a) no sleep b) tons of stress and c) wondering when to fire the epi-pen... I HATE it. Of course, I love him in "sickness and health" but it sure is stressful for us to deal with these life-threatening allergies all the time.

I'm on plan so far today. I cooked enough chicken in my new Roaster Oven to make it through the week this week. Hopefully planning ahead like this will help me stay on plan better. I feel like my eating this way is going to be a minute by minute challenge.

Question: When does it stop being a daily thing to stay mostly on plan?

***I say mostly because this is a way of life, and carbs don't disappear and indulgent things happen... but it's what you do 80-90% of the time that really make this a way of life and not a diet.

My dh wants to become a personal trainer!! Maybe NOW he'll help me. LOL!!!

Okay, off to work now. Will check in later.

Thank you to Star for PMing me and letting me know I've been missed. :D

I'm going to check the food logs for some lunch and breakfast ideas. If I have to eat another boiled egg, I'm going to gag.

lady_adnerb 01-26-2004 02:15 PM

I went to the store after work to get some tomatoes (and dog food--but I'm not going to eat THAT! lol)...and slowly meandered down the "low carb" aisle. Imagine my shock to see shelf upon shelf of ATKINS stuff!! oh boy!! Bread, Muffins, Noodles, all stuff like that....but ya think I could find some low carb CHOCOLATE for hot cocoa? rofl. But I resisted (well, I did buy some low carb tortillas for when I need a change) and went on to the veggie aisle.

:( it's snowing out. My car was slip and sliding all the way home. And I've still got to go get the oldest from school in a couple hours!

Shimma 01-26-2004 02:18 PM

Why oh why do they stuff teacher's lounges with food? I think that is the reason I've gained so much weight in the first place... like 30 lbs in 2 years. Ugh. And I MUST go there in order to pick up my mail and what is tempting me today? The same thing that was tantilizing my the first day of Atkins someone has bought a BOX of tollhouse candy bars.... like a cookie and candy bar all at the same time. They're just sitting there FREE for people to take. Who is this sick and twisted individual that obviously thinks all teachers should be plump?

Managing to hold out so far.... but I'm just so curious as to what that candy bar tastes like... ACK!!

Star: Thanks for the info... sounds like something I'll probably join in on. Yippeee!

jane8760 01-26-2004 02:37 PM

Shimma: I know just how you feel.....at my office we have been invaded by GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! My favorite are the Carmel Delights. One of my friends IM'd me and said she just got a box. What happened to the days when you had to ORDER them? What is with this instant cookie sale thing?

Hang in there Shimma....we can do it. I am not going to cheat today if it kills me!

Sonnet 01-26-2004 02:41 PM

Hi all. good to see everyone on a cold Monday. Sorry to those with snow storms. Brrr! We just have rain still, but will still go to the beach for a walk and take a stack of bath towels for the doggies and us to cut down on the drown rat look afterwards. At least everyone at the store will have that wind blown look. LOL

Welcome new members! Welcome Nutski! You'll love posting here!

Hi Spedmom, I've had the chocolate thing going too, some sort of bug going around, hehe, and I'm not talking a tiny candy bar. But I ran right back here to stop the New Year's craving problem I've suffered from going off my Atkins plan.

I'm sorry, I still owe some letters! I feel bad about that, but I'll make it up.

Hi Lisa, I hope your husband's feeling better soon. How scary to have that happen with food. My husband had that happen with a drug for a sinus infection and it was serious, so I wish you the very best.

Krista, Hi, and good luck with your job ap.

Hi Chewgirl, the Induction diet is sounding like what I'm going to have to do.

Tummygirl, I'm glad you had a good weekend!

Hi Leens, Good luck with the no eating after dinner. I'll need to stick to that too. DH likes peanuts or peanut butter as a night snack, and I don't, but always just go along with it. I don't need this. LOL

Hi Shimma! Glad you're feeling darn good and sounds like your low carb diet will have the support of your family. Congratulations on your 2 pounds!

Hi Fulfig, Congrats on the 170's!

Hi Jane, I was secrely praying the little girls in the middle of our street were selling cookies, but I don't think I'll open the door. LOL Or maybe just hand them some money, tell them to keep the cookies and slam the door j/k(wouldn't really slam the door). LOL

Hi Gina, Going to a game sound like fun! I'm glad you had a good time, and I hope to go to one sometime. I think it will be a Giants Baseball Game. I went to see the Giants in the 60's for the Met's/Giant's world series and saw Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays -the easiest and most familar place for us to go is SanFranciso, so that would be a great place for us to start. I can see me turning into a huge fan of a team and getting into the spirit like I did in high school.

Hi Lady adnerb, I hope your little one's going to feel better soon. There's a lot of members with snow!

Hi Star, Oh wow! your dh has a dangerous job! My dh was a bar tender 25 years ago and knows all the bouncing stuff all too well. Sorry about your "past" record of a measly ticket. I'd hope they have you mixed up with someone else like how I've got the wrong RX handed to me...same name, just mixed up info. Good luck with that--that sounds important, and I hope it gets cleared up. It sounds nit picky on their part.

Today, for me, my goal is to count 20 carbs, or maybe even just count the carbs to see where I am (failing) with them. As I'm in town and on the road today, I have to not go off the low carb plan with junk food. So my plan is to stop at the store first and get a little jar of Macadamia nuts and then maybe even a piece of deli chicken so i don't feel junk food deprived. I have to just be prepared. Everyone have a great day!

 I'm a Girl Scout leader for one daughter and co-leader for the other. Around here you don't get cookies until 3/1. So I'm not having to be tempted by those right now. I do plan on ordering some thin mints (my favorite). And have had to pass up (twice) taste-testing the new kind called Pinata. Oh man they looked SOOO good!! I'm going to be throwing my cookies in the freezer. lol. I had a box of those things in my freezer for 2 years once. :s: still tasted good

jane8760 01-26-2004 03:00 PM

FROZEN THIN MINTS! YUM

They wouldn't even be safe in the freezer if they were in my house!

StarPrincess 01-26-2004 03:05 PM

Barbie! Good to see you back! I've considered trying my hand at being a bartender. Most people who know me think I'd be good at it. Maybe I will if we ever get to a point where I don't need a reliable income. The though of being so dependant on tips scares me!

Oh gawd!!! Is it girl scout cookie time? I will have to make a special effort to never go to the grocery store unsupervised because those little girls set up shop right outside the doors. I've always been a complete sucker for those Samoa's. Hmmm....actually, typing about it it making me a little nauseated. Maybe it won't be such a big deal after all! I have been noticing lately that if I smell something really sweet, it makes me feel a little ill. Wa-hooo! :D

jdoggmartin 01-26-2004 03:10 PM

I need some of your willpower and sick-to-the-smell response to sweets, Star! Why does everything sweet sound so delicious to me?!? Probably because I have sweets every now and then. If I was good Atkins girl and just never had any of the bad stuff, I'd be doing alright, I guess! I'm my own worst enemy! :(

StarPrincess 01-26-2004 03:16 PM

Remember in the book, how Dr. Atkins said that a lot of people with food allergies crave the food that's harming them? I think I was one of those people. I think my body has always reacted badly to carbs - especially sugar - but I didn't realize it until I had a couple of months to really 'detox'. I was accidently served a regular coke one day instead of diet and it made me throw up! I'm thinking that's the reason the sweet smell doesn't do much for me anymore. ;)

Shimma 01-26-2004 03:19 PM

If only being allergic meant that you didn't like it!!!!

lady_adnerb 01-26-2004 03:22 PM

oh please please PLEASE tell me that's going to happen to me also!!! i could use a little pick-me-up right now!! lol
