YUMM!!!

OMG Froufy....just ready about your planned dinner out was making my mouth SALIVATE!!! I know, you just gotta love eating out as long as the waitress doesn't bring bread to the table. I ate out all weekend while away and did great as well. There's a trend down here to bring hot croissant rolls drizzled with honey icing sugar....very typical of the roadhouse type restaurants. I have to be extremely carefull of those babies!!! Good luck with your dinner and have fun with the girls!! Oh btw...what is the carb value for the heavy whipping cream? My side panel showed 0 carbs in the nutritional table.

WAY TO GO StorybookMama....excellent weight loss. Good luck with your surgery tommorow.

StorybookMama 10-08-2003 03:55 PM

Thanks!!

According to the Atkins website - 2 TBSP of cream has .8 carbs. That means a pint of cream has 12.8 carbs in it.

Wow, you Chicks are all doing so great. I've just been scanning quickly through all the posts here. You're such a busy group.
Nice to see somebody else in my weight range. I finally got under 280 last week and I'm trying to get to 272 by Hallowe'en. That's my Great Pumpkin Challenge Goal.
I think the four weeks of Body Flexing is finally beginning to pay off in both weight loss and inches lost. However, the inches aren't measurable but I feel firmer and my clothes are definitely much looser so I guess I'm losing from somewhere.
I also think eating full fat yogurt (home made) has really helped me break a long-term stall. I know you're all probably very skeptical because the y ogurt cartons say it's about 11 gr per 8 oz but I'm convinced that's not the case, especially for home made. Anyhow, it helps to keep me from eating other, less healthy snacks, satisfies my sweet tooth and I firmly believe that it has helped me over that big 280 hump. Full fat yogurt is NOTHING like low fat or non fat in texture or flavor. I use homogenized milk and add cream to it and once it's made, I take half of it and strain it through a coffee filter to make yogurt cheese. This is mixed into the unstrained yogurt and it is SO delicious and creamy, especially when flavorings are added. I don't need s.f. jello or miracle fluffs or anything else anymore. I love this stuff and I've never been a yogurt eater before.
Other than adding yogurt to my diet, I'm following basic Atkins Induction with the occasional addition of some OWL foods.

Great job Jina and Lisa!

I don't have a minivan but I don't have kids either. I guess it would look a little strange for me to own a minivan but have no husband or kids.

The mousse recipe sounds great. I discovered a snack on the fat fast plan that is pretty tasty. It sounds gross but is good. It is sour cream mixed with a little sf syrup.

Good luck gals, y'all are doing great!

Hi there,

I have recovered from my dinner out last night...and boy was it yummy!

I did have a drink (rum & diet coke...not my usual), and it was very good, with some lime squeezed in. I did feel a warm flush all over while I was drinking it (early menopause? ha ha).

Appetizer was the garlic butter shrimp w/melted cheese on top! Divine. And yes there was a bread basket on the table, but frankly it no longer interests me so that is not a problem. One gf did have the seafood fondue (to die for!)...and I just scooped some for a taste...without the toasted bread provided for dipping.

Main dish was broiled shrimp scampi (3 of them) with a piece of grilled salmon filet. Did not eat the side coleslaw and asked for no rice/potatoes..and got yummy fresh veggies (zucchini, green beans, cauliflower...and left over the carrots). Got to dip the shrimp in garlic butter, which is always fun.

We also shared a bottle of white wine (very dry and fabulous). I had a glass which I did not even finish, but it was nice to enjoy.

"Dessert" was a decaf coffee w/cream....and good conversation.

The best part was getting COMPLIMENTS! No one at home or work has really noticed my weight loss...yet....and it was getting a bit depressing. These ladies were co-workers from previous workplace, and just gasped when they saw me....called me the "incredible shrinking woman"..this of course made my day. I did hope that SOMEONE would finally notice a 30 lb weight loss.

Of course I had to do some Atkins marketing, especially when they saw me enjoying the fabulous food. One of the ladies has a friend on the Dr. Bernstein diet...and she has just been hopsitalized as many of her organs are beginning to shut down. I knew that was an unsafe/starvation diet, but did not realize how really dangerous it was.

I am at work today, altho head is foggy due to antihistamine taken for helping with the ability to breathe! Just want to go home to bed and relax...waiting for long weekend as it is Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday!

Scale this morning still at 190 so not too much damage done. TOM expected next week, so I am trying to hang in there!

Hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Froufy

Froufy, you made me hungry and I'm not even a seafood fan. It sounds like you had a lovely time. I've had a few dinners in Canada and was really impressed with how unrushed the nice meals are there. I miss it a bit but not enough to go back to the snow dominated northern part of Maine.

dinki 10-10-2003 02:08 AM

Yumm that fish sounds so good. We don't have fresh fish here
in Kansas, so that is what I eat everytime I travel.
This is beef country.

Well so far I have had a good week total weight loss since starting the Thanks giving challange is 3 pounds.

Thanks for all the motivation, Oh by the way, I used to have a mini-van and loved it but now my kids are 20 and 17 they don't travel much with mom and dad we went to a smaller car.

Oooh! I love seafood! I moved from Kansas to Florida, so it's great being able to have fresh seafood any time! I love crab legs, especially. And shrimp. And salmon. And oysters. Etc., etc., etc.

Well, I'm officially in love with the Atkins Diet. The first few days were rough -- bad headache, bad breath and getting used to knowing what I could and couldn't eat. Well, my fifth day into the program, and the only thing that remains is the bad breath. I've really got a handle on what I can eat, and after some issues, I've come to love and rely on Fitday.

I haven't really missed anything that I can't have during induction. Tonight was my biggest challenge. My husband had me bring him McDonald's while he was at work. I love McDonald's -- especially their fries. But, I got the bag of food to him without taking a nibble of one fry! Success! If I can make it through that, surely I can handle anything else.

I feel like I am losing weight. I officially weigh in at TOPS on Monday. I can't wait to see the results! I just don't trust my scale...

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Take care,
Jina

Seafood! I love living in the Pacific Northwest for that reason! I Grew up in the San Francisco Bay area then moved here! Seafood is my all time favorite! :):)

quick question

What is our opinion of Hot & Sour Soup? There is some cornstarch in it but it is 5 tbs per 6 cups of broth. Everything else in it seems fine.

FANTASTIC FRIDAY

I am jealous of all other as well who get FRESH SEAFOOD all the time...especially in Florida...Many years ago had fresh tuna for the first time while there.....absolutely spoiled...and can rarely find any around here (time for a vacation? lol)

Took today off as a "mental health" day as I was really getting fed up at work yesterday with my manager! I am now certain that I want to switch jobs as I feel like I am going nowhere at this point. (Ex-MBA pal actually called and may have opening in another gov dept so I am brushing up my resume!).

So decided to treat myself:
1) Breakfast at Denny's (with a good book): scram slam (scrambled eggs/grated cheese/ with onions/pepper/mushrooms/tomatoes)...very filling...with two cold/hard slices of bacon :s: and 1 sausage, decaf w/cream

2) Time for a relaxing facial!: one hour of steaming, picking, exfoliating, creaming, massaging of neck/shoulders/hands.

3) Snack time: Tim Horton's for a decaf coffee (and I snuck in my own Atkins banana nut muffin for nibbling)...not really hungry.

4) Manicure: time to get nails redone and new polish - tired of the burgundy I had on...now have a nice rose/beige color on...very neutral as I will have it on for at least 3 weeks! (acrylic nails by the way)

5) Home for a break (was going to do more shopping but did not want to exhaust myself...lol)....2 pepperoni sticks and lots of water as I have been off schedule today (forgot to take my SUPPLEMENTS!).

No dinner plans yet...off to drop one child off at pt job and pick up youngest at school.

Then it's time to REALLY ENJOY the long weekend!;)

good for you!!

GOOD GIRL FROUFY!!! Isn't it great when YOU are in charge? Thats what I loved about eating out last weekend. Rice? nope don't want it on my plate....how about more steamed veggies. Pasta? but it comes with the lamb....no thanks, salad please instead. I know that if it comes on the plate, it goes in my mouth!!!One waitress argued with me 4X about the pasta noodles served with the lamb...."they are the best...try them, okay order them and if you don't like them I'll take them away...." I said "NO....I don't want them, and was firm about my salad. Oohhh, all that talk about the shrimp and butter.....YUMM!!! Are you cooking a turkey on Monday? or celebrating with family and they are doing the cooking? Be aware of STUFFING AND CRANBERRY SAUCE!!! but otherwise, enjoy!!!

dinki 10-11-2003 10:05 PM

I have had a good week. Sticking well to the diet and exercising at times still need to do more. My total weight loss since starting the Thanksgiving Challange is 3 pounds which is great for me cuz I have been stalled for several weeks. The difference for me is keeping trak of my carbs and keeping it below 20 per day. Now exercise every day is my goal for this next week.

Well long weekend officially here...and I am right into PMS..and can't stop snacking/eating! I'm not even that hungry...just want to nibble.

Did okay for most of the day, but took kids to movies tonight (School of Rock - very cute!)...and ended up with a few handfuls of popcorn!!!!....I had pepperoni sticks on my purse, and diet soft drink (which I drank)...but could not help nibbling on popcorn! And you know what? It did not even taste as GREAT as I remembered:mad: ....I will count it in my daily totals. I'm sure I'm out of ketosis, and one can only imagine what all that salt will do.

I am home now drinking water...and awaiting TOM, when I hope to be in better control.

Froufy:D

Confession is good for the soul...

Froufy - don't feel too bad about the popcorn!

Tonight I gave my dh two choices: a little time rolling in the hay or chocolate chip cookies. He chose the cookies....

And, believe it or not - I haven't had a single one. I'm not the slightest bit tempted by them when they are baked - it's the dough BEFORE they get baked that just kills me.

I don't even care about the chocolate chips so much, just the dough.

So, I confess, I indulged in a few bites of dough - and skipped the chocolate.... I just couldn't help it. But, now I know that I won't be doing any holiday baking this year!! I can't stand it - french fries are no problem, cookie dough - can't help myself.

So, starting over in the morning after a large drink of water....

Lisa - who will get on the scale in spite of herself just to see what the damage is...

Brownies got me yesterday Storybook. I was making them for my husband but they are Sooooo good hot from the oven. Glad the kids ate the rest today. I am with you on the NO BAKING holiday. I will buy the stuff for them at the bakery, its the baking smells and the batter that kill you.

No minivan here either. I had one in 1997. Needed it for the kids but hated it. (My previous 3 cars were all Camaros). Traded it 2 years ago for a Mustang GT. But that didn't go well, still have those kids, lol. So last year got a bright yellow Nissan Xterra 4x4. Not as much fun as the Mustang and Camaros, but not as boring as my Caravan. Plus it holds the kids and all their "stuff".

Froufy 10-12-2003 02:41 PM

IT'S SUNDAY!

Feeling yucky today due to impending TOM...have a headache, which I usually get around this time...what a bummer. Also feeling bloated...yuck!

Went to Costco this am..and spent a bundle on all sorts of stuff...some of it for me of course. Did enjoy some "samples", some were okay (ham, smoked salmon)...some were not (2 potato chips, 1 cracker). Came home, had some lunch, not too hungry, but wanting SWEET STUFF! Having a splenda talking rain drink...peach flavor, all 16 oz to fill me up.

Going to sis in law's tomorrow for Thanksgiving turkey dinner. I understand she makes a fabulous stufffing? I don't plan on havng any, but I know it will be offered. I plan to stick to the turkey and veggies....I have also offered to bring along a sf dessert...:D aren't I clever? Just made a whole vat of sf chocolate mousse which I will bring along so at least dh and I won't be salivating at all the pies/cakes available.

Also got to lick the beaters...which when PMSing is almost a requirement!

I hope I can make it thru the day without too much damage!;)

I did weigh myself this morning...still at around 189 and still in ketosis:)

Good luck Froufy, those large family get togethers are always a big challenge. I went out for Mexican food today and stuck with the fajita salad. I did have about 5 or 6 chips.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to you!
