;) hello all I am fairly new to this and following Atkins loosely, the scale says I'm loosing but I am also aware of the "water" loss... today however I just want to lay my head down and sleep... is this normal in the process? I only got serious and strict with it Saturday so that would make this day 3... I can barely hold my eyes open. any tips to make it go away? lunch filled my belly and only seemed to make it worse... anyway nice to meet you all and I look forward to learning and sharing.:faint:

Yes.. Search 'Atkins flu', transitioning to low carb, 'low car flu'. People often get disrupted sleep (even if you didn't realize it), headaches, fatigue. Sometimes this can last two to three weeks for some.

I started feeling better after 3 or 4 days, but that is not everyone.

I just head today upping salt can help as can magnesium.

Basically what is going on is most people are 'sugar burners'. Your body only knows how to use carbs as fuel. But we were intended to be fat burners. Hence carbs getting stored as fat.

When you become a fat burner...wow. You will experience steady, great energy throughout the day and these not filling good will pass.

Almost everyone experiences what you are. It means it is working.. so well done.

Once past the transition period weight loss becomes almost effortless for many. Worth it a thousand times over to go through this.

Great thanks a bunch, actually I licked on some twang (0 carb lemon salt) and drank a 20 oz bottle of water and I am a little better now... cant wait for this lagging feeling to be over as well as the slight disorientation, kind of dingy right now, checked my sugar and it was 116 (not that I have a problem with that) but I was just feeling stupid dingy and slothy:dizzy: glad to hear its my body working right :cp: lol, p.s. how did you get the scale on the bottom of your post?

Drs Westman, Volek & Phinney all recommend extra salt (often broth or bouillion but any source of salt will do) for the "carb flu"

As the others have mentioned, :Atkins Flu" is something a lot of people experience when transitioning to low carb. Keeping yourself hydrated and chicken broth (NOT low sodium) seem to ease these symptoms.
Since you say you are loosely following Atkins, my suggestion would be to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 or prior editions to educate yourself exactly how & why it works.
All the best to you!!:)
