On the Road Fast Food/Snack ideas?

So, I am leaving town and will be on the road a while. I was hoping that experienced low carbers can tell me which meals they order from fast food places that they enjoy the most? Any special requests I should make?

Other restaurants would be great, too. I will be travelling in texas. From the far west part of the state all the way to Houston and then to North Padre, if that information is helpful.

I am just now utilizing low carb and have liked it, and would like to mostly continue while on vacation. I used to love the McDonalds southwest salad with double grilled chicken. 7 bucks and really yummy, but it has quite a lot of carbs. 35, I think, with the second grilled chicken.

Can you clarify what low carb is for you? Do you mean Atkins low, like 10 grams per day, or general low carb, like less than 100 grams per day, or what?

Some suggestions. Lots of great Tex-Mex here. You can make it low carb this way. Eat the salsa like gazpacho. Have guacamole straight with a spoon.

Fajitas without tortillas, great. An awesome chain restaurant called Torchy's Tacos, not everywhere but growing does all their tacos in a bowl.

BBQ is everywhere. It is quick and very low carb friendly. Stick to the meats with lots of fat. Watch the BBQ sauce unless it is vinegar based. Choose sides carefully. Usually free pickles and onions which are both fine. BBQ meat often is just slow cooked with no vegetable oil, so very healthy.

So make your fast food a BBQ or Mexican restaurant. Or one very easy way is a lettuce wraped cheeseburger. Order one more patty than normal and you won't miss the fries. Or only eat a third or so of a fry order. Watch the ketchup, usually has HFCS. And I normally just get mustard no secret sauce that has goodness knows what.

was thinking nuts and beef jerky for the road, bc it keeps.

i am aiming for about 50 grams a day. (don't do net carbs, just carb counting)

most seafood on the road is questionable or deep fried. when i get in houston, i am going to try and find some boiled crawfish for sure, because it's in season.

nothing beats a good piece of fish, IMO.

oh! whole foods has those shrimp to go packages. pricey, but delicious. it will be nice to have a whole foods nearby.

eta: i miss you in the lifting thread, ian!

I lift so much I don't get time to post there!

I also eat 35-42 cans of fish a week.

So you could pack a few...

My job has me traveling at least 1/2 - 3/4 of the month, so this can be very hard for me.

I usually skip right down to the seafood options on a menu, or apps. I really like Outback steakhouse. I had their firecracker salmon with steamed broccoli and butter a couple of times last week. They also have this crab meat, and avocado 'dip'. Of course, it comes with chips, but I'd eat the dip as is.

I also might get a caprese salad, and steak tips. At lost of restaurants have steamed mussels in a butter/wine sauce.

I also buy cheese and hard salami roll ups. They're usually pre-made in the deli section. Those are a good snack to have on hand. Depending on the wine, it can usually run low carb.
