Can Low Carb=Overly tired?
I am doing low/moderate carb. The last week I have been doing lower (probably in the 50g per day area) and between 1200-1600 calories. I am so tired at night? Is it from the low carb or is it because I am getting up at 4:30 every day to work out? Then working full time. I am drinking over 100 ounces of water a day. Getting 7 1/2-8 hours of sleep most nights. Protein is good (in the 100 g area). I am so tired, I want to go to bed and it's 7:30. Well maybe I should since I'll be up at 4:30. LOL! Thoughts?

I don't think it's the low-carb diet, because it sounds entirely normal.
It's not at all unusual for a normal, healthy person to need 9 hours of sleep. Eight hours is the average, but 7 to 9 is quite normal. Also, most people don't fall asleep as soon as their head hits the pillow, so a 7:30 bedtime would be completely reasonable. Even to get 8 hours of sleep, you'd have to be asleep (not just in bed) by 8:30. |
I am up at 3-5 am and can be so very tired at 7 pm. For me, its the timing. I am a morning person and throughout the day, my energy level gets lower. It has nothing to do with the carb level. There is a separate issue with low carbing and exercise, and you may want to do some research on it. I remember a few body building web sites that were based on the low carb diet and they gave many tips for increasing energy levels that were depleted with exercise.
