Sandy ... relax. When you get the results come back and share with us. Remember that a highish fasting sugar is normal for folks our age and that we can definitely do something about it.

Sandy, if you are diabetic, or boarderline, then Primal IS the way to go! You can read story after story on MDA about people who are no longer on insulin, or no longer boarderline!

Thanks all, you know how doctors don't really want to label people (pre-existing conditions and insurance issues). My fasting blood glucose was 97. Drank the sugar stuff and was 237 (should be 180-200 or less) after one hour. Should be less than 140 after 2 hrs and I was 168. The doc said stage 4. Stage 5 and 6 he considers diabetic. I have never had high glucose numbers at all and this surprised the heck out of me. I was unprepared to say the least.

Sandy ... a lot of docs are not using the super sweet drink any more. I think they are recognising that all calories are not equal and that glucose will spike the blood sugar of people who are basically healthier than that.

What did the doc recommend? an A1C? Is he willing to repeat the tests after you've been working with your diet for a while? How about a glucose meter?

TGIF, Ladies!

I will catch up on your posts this weekend, in between working some needed "play" into my life.

Hope everyone is well!

My A1c was not tested. I have had it tested in the past and the last time is was 5.8. I asked him to test Homecysteine, C- reactive protein, and vitamin D (48). The first two were high as they usually are, I think my CRP is actually a little lower than past years. He checked c-peptide as he thinks I have lost some function in my pancreas?? It was in the normal range. My bg was 101 on the day of the first fasting appt.

His recommendations a Low-GI diet and Byetta. I mentioned that if Byetta is for appetite control, which helps some diabetics lose weight and thus get their numbers down, I do not have an appetite on Primal low-carb. But if it is for blood sugar reduction so that something doesn't get further damaged than I would consider it although I think it is very expensive. I am concerned with being labeled diabetic even "pre-diabetic" with our health care system.

I ordered a meter on my own, as I think it would be helpful to see if certain foods spike my blood sugar. I think a lot of folks on MDA use meters to check stuff. Or there is a great number of diabetics on MDA.
