It's mainly the database size. I can find pretty much everything that I eat there. Sometimes you have to watch out because regular people can enter in items, but a lot of things are verified by thedailyplate. When I used other sites (a few years ago), I could never find my food items. I don't find it slow at all, either. It keeps track of foods that I eat regularly, too.

I received my Primal Blueprint cookebook yesterday. I've only looked through about a third of it, but it looks pretty good so far. Every recipe has a big picture with it. I love cookbooks with lots of pictures. It also came with a huge poster that I'm not sure what I'm going to do with yet.

I saw an interesting blog post from "NephroPal" (link to entire post) which had the following statement. I always thought we should limit carbs because of their effect on blood sugar and because they tend (in me anyway) to stimulate hunger and thus overeating. I wasn't aware that these items bind up minerals. Has anyone here heard that?
Phytates (legumes, soy, peanuts, GRAINS--WHEAT, barley, rye, brown rice, oatmeal, corn, etc) are anti-nutrients and bind trace minerals like iron, zinc, magnesium and iodine. Yes-- these phytate-rich sources might be touted by the USDA as 'excellent' sources of minerals but this is entirely defeated by the fact that most minerals are not biologically available by the actions of phytates. Phytates bind vitamins and minerals and make them unavailable for absorption in the colon.

In regions of the world consuming high phytates and too impoverished to consume red meat and/or seafood, epidemic mineral deficiencies are seen (Iran, India, Africa, China). Iron and zinc deficiencies in pregnant women in the literature are associated with growth abnormalities, immunocompromization, dwarfism, hypogonadism, pre-eclampsia, hypertension and a host of marginal mental illnesses and developmental delays.

Well the belly ache that pestered me for over a year is back but just barely, so maybe grains and or sugar were the problem. I also didn't want to get out of bed this morning. Despite all the cheating I feel pretty good as far as bloating or weight gain.

Good luck, Susan. I'm in a similar boat with left over pizza, cheesecake and not much else stocked. I may not eat today though. ;)

Keep that stuff coming CJ. In other forums where I have been active for years I am in a debate with conventional bread eating wisdom. Thank you!

CJ, I haven't heard of this, but I have read in Gary Taube's Good Calories, Bad Calories that high carb diets increase the need for vitamin supplementation, especially Vitamin C, if I remember correctly. Don't have the book at hand right now, but I think he brought up traditional herding nomad cultures (like the Masai) do not suffer from diseases like rickets. Very interesting! Would make sense to me that they also hurt mineral absorption.

Thanks CJ, that is a great one...more to support what I'm doing, love it!

Today has been great, I woke up down another pound, yesterday I was down 1 also and I started the day with eggs and a porkchop, just had an iced coffee with coconut milk...yum! after our trip to the pool, we are waiting for it to cool off some then we're off to the park! The weather is so great here the past few days that it makes it easy for me to forget to eat! All the fat in the mornings makes it so easy!

I didn't eat my egg until lunch time when I was hungry. I just bought a little plate of cut up veggies. And I stopped at the grocery store on the way home. I'm not chancing that our cafeteria will have raw veggies two days in a row.

I have read about phytates before binding to minerals. I can't remember where I heard about it. Maybe Mark's site or Jimmy Moore's podcast.

This salsa attempt was a hit!

2 peaches
2 slices of onion
balsamic vinegar
lime juice
a pinch of salt

I'm sorry, I didn't measure very carefully. But it was very good. I'll make more next time!

Hey! A young nurse commented on my "guns" yesterday  "You must lift something else besides sick people."

OK, I just tracked my meals for the first time on dailyplate and I cracked up a little at seeing that I consumed 30% of the "recommended" carb amount and about 300% protein. Heh. I don't have an account so this is based on a standard 2000 cal. intake, but still, I fount it funny to see it in big RED letters as if it's extremely alarming.

Better go and eat some bread, pasta, and rice to even things up! LOL! That is just so typical, I think now that I'm primal I notice things regarding the Food Pyramid so much more. Anytime I watch any news program and they're discussing weightloss, it is always the same mantra...Lean protein,"good" carbs, blah blah blah, I think what annoys me the most is the matter of fact in their statements, like everyone should eat the same and have the same results. I've eaten "good" carbs for at least 8 years and just got bigger and bigger, mainstream dieting disregards a lot of very valuable science.
Okay, vent over!:dizzy:

Yeah, it's a mystery how we managed to evolve without baguettes!
