Low Carb Questions

  • Hi, all LC'ers. I am currently on MRC diet which is pretty low carb. I was just curious as to what a typical Atkins style low carb maintenance menu looked like. I am thinking of maintaining on this type of diet. I did Atkins before and really liked it although I did sometimes miss bread and pasta. Thanks a bunch!
  • On Atkins Maintenance, lean protein, high fiber veggies, good fats like, butter, avacado, olive oil, nuts, fruit, legumes and whole grains are all encouraged. On Atkins, it is important you avoid processed foods, white flour, bad fats & sugar.
On Maintenance, breakfast can still consist of Eggs, Sausage & Cheese but, you can add berries, melon or citrus fruits as well as plain yogurt. Or even oatmeal or all-bran.
Lunch might consist of salad topped with tuna salad or grilled chicken, crustless quiche, even the occasional sandwich...using whole grain bread.
Dinner would be along the lines of a protein (beef, chicken, fish, pork etc.). a salad and a veggie. On Maintenance, you can eat starchier veggies like carrots, peas, butternut squash....even the occasional sweet potato.
There are also low carb desserts

  • I have a question, I hope I am in the right place. I just ate an atkins bar that says 2 net carbs on the front, but I read the back and it says 17 carbs and 6 grams fiber. Why wouldn't that be 11 net carbs??
  • It would be. You might want to read this, it explains those misleading net carb calculations on Atkins bars very well.
