Just want to share....

Well I'm right with anyone who was on the emotional out of control eating roller coaster. I'm not one to push my WOE on anyone but I'll tell you what is working for me this time (this five minutes anyway).
I'm doing low carb, moderate protein and high fat (good fats). I'll be honest the first week was TOUGH! Going through carb/sugar withdrawal was not pleasant but doable. Much harder quitting smoking for sure, but still hard.
The next week wasn't as bad but still I wanted to "pig out". Evenings have been my downfall for FIVE long years. I would start eating and then just eat and eat and eat and eat....I never have figured that out. But with this WOE, low carb, I've finally got over that pattern of behavior that has sabotaged me.
The low carb boards have pointed me in the right direction. The book is helpful of course, but the advice about staying away from 'frankenfoods' for me at least, was spot on. I tried Atkins a few years ago and gave up frustration .... using the marketed "low carb products" totally did not work for me. I lost nothing, so this time I'm avoiding that as much as possible. The advice about such things as stevia, flax meal etc. is just what is making this WOE workable...including the recipes on Linda's site<-----just what everyone starting out needs!
I did WW for five plus years and I have gained 35 pounds......Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing WW at all. In fact my DD is trying to drop a few pounds and she is doing it on line. I think it's very healthy doable way.....just didn't work for me.
I think I may be one of those "carb addicts". I could eat a whole bag of microwave popcorn and still feel hungry. On WW I felt deprived and needing to eat all the time. With this WOE, I actually have less cravings and feel satisfied. I think I'm just going to have to say no the the processed food for life. I finally finally finally feel in control of my eating. The weight isn't exactly "flying off" but what do I expect at my age (50)? At least the scale is headed in the right direction.
The control of eating is a huge huge hurdle for me.
Let me add that I also have banned alcohol until I'm no longer obese. This is a wait and see item. If I find that I can't control my eating with alcohol, then I may have to cut back or eliminate that also (I really am hoping I don't have to give up wine, the martinis would be easier, but please not the red wine!!!!LOL).
Well, I'm blabbering, But I just wanted to share what seems to be working for me. This time (after a bijillion "restarts") it finally feels like I can stick with this WOE for the long haul.
This is usually the time (around the 4 wk mark) when I step on the scale, see no progress and gradually give up. But not this time. I'm not as discouraged because I can see that the old over-eating in the evening is FINALLY under control.
So thanks to all for the support!
Have a great day losers!

:woohoo: Eileen!!

At almost 48 years old myself, I have to tell ya, I feel better than I've ever felt in my life!
I'll be celebrating 5 years on Atkins in April..over 100 lbs lost and gone FOREVER!!!:carrot:

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been overweight most of my life (well, past age 5 anyway.) I could live on carbs, no joke. I did for a year I became a "vegetarian" ... I'm not sure how I could call myself that since I ate no veggies, but I digress. :carrot:

I have done most every diet and (this has been my experience only.. not knocking anyone or any diet): Jenny Craig (expensive and not super tasting), Nutrisystem (less expensive and tastes like dog food.. literally), Physicians Weight Loss (expensive and starving), LA Weight Loss (expensive, counselors are sales people and mandatory VERY expensive bars), Slim Fast (a few carbs anyone????), Weight Watchers (a GREAT program, but I was ALWAYS starving, even on the highest points 44/day).

I was one of the MANY misinformed that said, "Great, you get to weight 100 pounds, but you've know turned into a solid because of the high fat content." I didn't get it, and I don't think most of us (carb freaks) do. I work in healthcare now and understand better how a ketogenic diet works. True, I've only been doing this for a week and a day but I AM NOT STARVING. Most of the food I've eaten is good. It's kept me from eating out anywhere. I truthfully didn't have a bad withdrawal, but I feel that's from intense prayer from friends, family, co-workers... anyone who would listen.

In the first six days, I lost 11.4 pounds, more than I've ever lost on any diet ever! I spoke to a radiologist I work with and he told me of a colleague who was on this diet, ate a pound of bacon in the morning, lost 80 pounds AND lowered his cholesterol!

I thank God for a mom who cooks everything for me because I have no domestic skills. I thank Him for the courage and willpower to pick up the pieces and try again. I also feel blessed to have found this forum and the wonderful people I've met here, especially in the Atkin's forum.

I wish the best to EVERYONE here, no matter your diet, in your quest to become a healthier, happier you! :grouphug:

Yes yes yes yes!! All of the above!! The only differences being, I'm 39 and I also let myself have about a tablespoon of gin in 4-6 oz of diet tonic water a couple times a week. I serve it in a beautiful martini glass and it makes me really, really happy. And sometimes I end up pouring half of it out.

Yay for all of us . . . we rock. JerseyGirl you are such an inspiration. And NickiChick, I'm right with you on needing heavenly assistance.
