Thumbs up Cholesterol Test Results

I've been meaning to post this for a few weeks now As many of you may remember me mentioning, my DBF was told his total cholesterol was 275! Unfortunately, the Dr. did not discuss diet with him...but...rather wanted to get him on 20 mg of Lipitor right away. I said NO WAY! Statins are bad news. I bought DBF a copy of Dr. Malcolm Kendrick's book The Great Cholesterol Con, as well as, Dr's Michael & Mary Dan Eades Protein Power Lifeplan. Much to my surprise, DBF started eating a much lower carb diet (he used to be addicted to sandwiches!) He's not doing full-fledged Atkins...but...he's eliminated white bread (he eats ezekiel bread) and potatoes (he eats sweet potatoes occasionally). He's added lots of fish to his diet as well as, veggies. I'm very proud to say, he's lost about 35 lbs. He also takes supplements now and over the Summer he bought himself a bike These are his cholesterol results

December 2007
Total Cholesterol = 275
LDL = 191
HDL = 47
Triglcerides = 184

November 2008
Total Cholesterol = 195
LDL = 123
HDL = 49
Triglycerides = 114

I'm very proud of him! Low carb eating works!!!

Thats awesome. I tried to tell my friend about it but I think she is stubborn and will continue taking her meds for cholesterol. I wish more doctors would realize the benefits to low carb instead of always going for the meds.
