Hey Aud, Valerie could be my little sister! I think I always identified with the older girl on that show. Wasn't she always a little "out there?"

I'm so old that I don't even remember flirting with boys! I've been married 27 years and just now hung up on a less than fullfilling conversation about medicial bills with my DH. It's time like this when I want to warn Faye and Joyce to dump the *******s and just go on being single. BTW, they're his medical bills. Why am I the one spending hours on the phone with the billing office and the insurance company? why do I have to put up with the snotty 20-something "customer service rep" threatening me with a collection agency because they made an mistake when they submitted the bill to my insurance agency!!! AAGGHHHHHHH.

I'm trying real hard not to go find myself a fruit smoothie! Something cold and sweet would feel so good now. I think I've totally made my sore throat worse yelling at DD15 (why don't kids listen when you know what's going to happen!!!), the "customer service" (yeah, that's a joke) rep and then DH. I really should be on the phone for actual work stuff, but I just can't face grinding out any more words right now. Maybe one of those iced coffee smoothies? How bad can that be???

bambifox 03-12-2008 12:22 PM

Hey Lynnar! You sound just like me right before my TOM!!! Actually, that's how I know TOM is right around the corner. I will usually have really big "blow-outs" with customer service reps, DD21 (oooh...she's a pickle!)...BF! It's weird, cuz I'll be fine...and BAM...one wrong word triggers an enormous response..then usually within a day or two max...looky..looky..TOM is here! I've finally learned (as TOM is soon approaching)...to generally stay away from people who tend to annoy me (including DD21) during this critical time and not to deal with so-called Customer Service Reps...so I pretty much barrichade myself in my office with the door locked and a sign posted STAY THE F*CK OUT!!!

On the smoothy tip...love them. You can make a really good healthy smoothie (WARNING...IT'S NOT LISTED ON INDUCTION), but here it goes: I mix 2 scoops of 0 carb whey isolate protein with 1/2 banana and 4 fresh strawberries, 1/2 cup of unsweetened soy milk and tons of ice!!! OOOoooh Man!!! is it delish and you could use it as a meal replacement! (It'll definately fill you up. Then check your ketostix the next morning. You probably will stay in ketosis...it's also a great way of finding out how much carbs your body can handle and still stay in ketosis. I currently use 1 whole banana and about 6 strawberries in my shake and I stay in Ketosis. Long before, I used to make it with 1/4 cup whole milk and without the whey protein, but with the whey and soy...I think it makes for a much healthier drink. Hope this helps...Joyce

P.S. If you don't have whey protein, you can still make it, but you'll probably have to add a couple of tsps of splenda.

lynnar 03-12-2008 02:07 PM

Well, it really wasn't worth it!! I drank the whole coffee smoothie even after I specifically asked them if it had sugar in it and got a yes. I thought the combination of the two forbidden items, caffeine and sugar, mixed with everyone favorite: ice - would somehow cure what ails me. It didn't. Oops.
I have made my own smoothies in the past so I know they can be healthy, but no smoothie maker or ingredients in the office. Too bad there's a Sonic close by. They're not particularly healthy!
Not sure I can blame TOM for my mood. I seem to be on the quarterly plan for TOM these days. Just when I think I've had my last visit, it comes back - always an unpleasant surprise. Maybe I should take this mood as a warning and pack some supplies this time!
Lily hasn't been around lately. I hope she's not sick! It's been a bad flu season!
I'm back on the straight and narrow now- eating my salad and grilled chicken. I need to figure out something for dinner that will be not only healthy and low carb, but also very easy and cheap. I may just fix myself a bowl of ice cubes and tell DH and DD to fend for themselves! I think I can get home by 6 tonight and be in bed by 6:30!! Something to look forward to!! As long as this cold doesn't turn into something else, I think I have it beat. By tomorrow I should be almost normal!! If not, I'll probably be calling the doctor.

Here's another smoothie recipe-not induction friendly but very good. 1 7 oz container of Fage yogurt, 1/2 cup carb countdown milk, 1/2 cup of frozen mixed berries, 2 tbsp strawberry whey protein powder, 1 tbsp blueberry davinci syrup, 1 tbsp of strawberry davinci syrup. OMG!!! You could probably substitute raspberry syrup if you had it. This is just what I had on hand. I have a ton of low carb smoothie recipes so need to go off the deep end for this one. Just ask. Including ones that involve coffee.

aud-I'm not a fan of reality TV of any description. I've seen intervention a couple times but I tend not to watch those types of shows. Maybe too much like work.

I got home late last night because I had my second obedience class with Tammy. She seems to have hurt one of her back paws somehow. I'm going to have to take her to the vet today sometime (don't know how that will fit in my schedule) and get it checked out. This weeks exercises look a little more concrete to practice. I have to find the time to work on it.

Well, I'm off to this huge nursing home this morning. I go here once a week. Today I only have to stay half a day because we have an administrative meeting at the hospital I have to attend. You won't believe this one. Yesterday, our ER admitted a patient to me with a broken arm without telling me about it!!! Can you believe that? I guess they didn't think it was important enough to mention. Needless to say, we are trying to get someone from the ER to come to this meeting to get some issues straightened out.

Top of the morn to you all!! Aaaannnnnd....KUDOS to you Lynnar & Azure for getting back on the horse! I find this to be one of the most important factor in successful in weight loss/healthy living! Not so long ago, if I were to "break" my diet in any way, let's say have a few bites of a piece of cake or something...that would just be it...I'd go full spectrum with the donuts, cake, icecream, etc. (sweets lover!) and completely go off plan! I am realizing now that it's okay to have a weak moment...but that, that won't hurt me if I get right back on plan! I know...I know...seems so simple, but it took me 40+ years to realize this! Crazy...but true!

I haven't eaten off plan since I started 1/5/08, (absolutely no social life), but if I do...I'm not going to remember you ladies and get right back on the horse! Thanks for sharing your stories...good and bad....it's really very helpful and inspiring!

Soooo...back to accountability. I've not taken the disk (e-book-Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle) to Kinkos yet....I'm going today...can't wait to get started reading it. But I've been really getting some excellent advice from bodybuilders (who better at losing fat)! One point this dude made was that most people are getting too much sodium in their diets and that cardio will not sweat off enough water and you will hold that water in your cells = more weight!!! We are only supposed to have the equivalent of 1 tsp sodium (2400 mg) per day!!! When I calculated my daily sodium intake...it was more than twice that amount!! Geeezzzze! One can of tuna has 400 mgs in it. I normally have 2 cans with mayo, relish, onions, etc.... He recommended buying some lower sodium foods and keeping tabs on this. Just some food for thought ladies!

Have a wonderful day all! Joyce

SoulBliss 03-13-2008 08:55 AM

Azure, congrats, you bright, beautiful woman you! I hope you get into the one you want :cp:

Broadbroad, I think it's fabulous that you have a new attraction...Healthy, if you ask me! ;)

I hope all is well in the land of low carbbin' ladies. :carrot:

I am going to have to measure when I make the chocolate next...I just "eyeball" it usually.

Here's what I use: Erythritol, toffee flavored stevia drops (regular is fine too), unsweetened chocolate and extra virgin coconut oil. I melt the chocolate, the erythritol and the coconut oil together, stirring constantly in a double boiler (in my case, two pans put together ;) ). The last thing I add is the stevia, drop by drop, tasting after a few drops for sweetness. Xylitol is a good one to use for some too. Then, I pour it into a glass container (shaped ice cube trays or candy trays are good too) and refrigerate or freeze. My DD and DH love this too!

Azure 03-13-2008 09:03 AM

Well, I've been sticking with under 25g net carbs...but I've been having some non-induction foods in with that! Most notably, peanut butter. I used to HATE peanut butter...but it's become my favorite thing. I'll eat it out of the jar, which is dangerous--because then there's portion control issues. I've started eating it off of a tablespoon measure, just so I can be SURE I'm measuring properly. At least it's natural PB, I guess? ;) I also couldn't stick to no caffeine...I think it's going to have to be a weaning-off-of process. Quitting cold turkey during mid-terms week wasn't a good plan!

The bright side is that I'll be headed home for Spring Break on Friday (tomorrow!), and it's the first time EVER I haven't been afraid of falling off the wagon while I'm there. I always get anxiety about that...but not this time. When I get home for break, I'm going to work on the caffeine again, when I don't have papers to stay up late writing or homework to get done... :) I'm even going to kick peanut butter off my menu starting tomorrow...hey, it's only 2 weeks without it! I just need to keep in mind that Induction is to get your body into ketosis--and once I'm in fat-burning mode, my body would LOVE a tablespoon of peanut butter once a day if I want it.

Anyway, I need to go get my shower, read, then study for my midterm!

bambifox 03-13-2008 09:18 AM

Azure - Does peanut butter kick you out of ketosis? I too am not a love of PB, but my bodybuilding coach (online) says I should add it (unsweetened PB) cuz it's a good source of protein...but only on weight training days. Enjoy your spring break..you deserve it!

SoulBliss - Thanks for posting the recipe!

Lily - Wherever you are in or outa cyberworld sending you [[[[healthy]]] vibes...hope you and DD are feeling better.

Wowwy...the weather is gorgeous here in VA today! I'm gonna try to take in some sunrays!!! before the storm of work begins! Joyce

Hi All: Buzzing in. My wireless router at home was down from home a couple of days and things were too crazy at work to post. Sorry for our sick folks and for our folks that are just sick and tired. tee hee. Not much to report here. I just realized that I've been at this almost 12 weeks now. My how time flies without Wonder Bread. Azure, that news about what I assume to be an avalanche of grad school acceptances is awesome. Have fun going home for Spring Break!!!!Fay: Mmmmmmmmhhhhhmmmmm I agree with the other post. I miss that loopy gotta crush feeling. Have as much fun as you can with it. Petra: Maybe I should send you the mail clerk in my office who doesn't want to sort mail (this person does not have to deliver the mail to everyone's office, just sort it and put it in their mailboxes up front) and you can send me the ER person that doesn't want to deal with a broken arm. We can do some perverse form of "wife swap" except it won't be wives it will be co-workers. Of course, then we will be stuck in our own reality show and neither one of us seem to be big fans of those. Actually, I don't mind reality shows if there is not a heaping helping of humiliation or eating disgusting items to prove oneself. I don't like to see people captured at their worst. I do enjoy, "Workout", and "John Kate Plus Eight" . I also really got a kick out of that show "Tory and Dean Inn Love". I happened to catch a single episode rerun one day and it was very funny. Gotta keep it lighthearted for me or I get stressed out for the people on the show. DH feels the same way that you do about reality shows showing addictions, abuse, etc. Too much like work. He was complaining to me about something on Lifetime last week (he calls it Lifetime...television for victims" ) and I had to say, "Uhhhmmm, Babe? Most GUYS really don't enjoy that channel because it is geared entirely towards women. Keep clicking unless you want to be subjected to movies about an evil stepmother/daughter/nanny, a black widow serial killer, an abusive mother/husband/sister/other family figure, satanic ritual abuse, stalkers, recovering alcoholics/addicts that fall off the wagon and....women who fall in love with more than one man at a time in different cities making for a zany and delightful romp where no one's feelings really get hurt."

Everyone have a great day! Sorry about those I missed. There were so many posts to read I feel like I just came home from a long trip. I hope my Lily is doing ok.

I can't deny it...I LOVE REALITY TV...the more "mindless" the better! I also love watching TLC, Discovery Channel (that's as much TV education as I can stand)!! My favorite shows are the "??? of Love" shows...the only one I didn't really like was that Tequilla show (I don't know..but something about her little mousy a$$ annoys me!).

Okay...had to chime in with that one! Good day all...I'm stallin' getting the **** outa here! Okay...I must go to WORK!!!

bambifox 03-13-2008 11:46 AM

Okay folks...I need to vent. Okay then...I just got back from Kinkos to get that e-book printed (Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle). OMG...you would have thought I came into the store in full armour and tried to hold up the gotdamned place! I handed the lady my receipt and disc and told her what I wanted (i.e., binding, color, etc.) The lady called the supervisor, and after waiting 15 minutes...she comes to me with a printed sheet of paper titled "FEDERAL CRIME...COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT LAWS"!!! I was really pissed...and alst I could say was "GET ME A MANAGER NOW!!" So the manager comes, I explain to him its and E-Book and therefore needs to be printed out, here's my receipt which gives me authorization to print 1 copy and check his website out where he recommends taking the disc to Kinkos!! The manager made me sign some copyright release paper, I did and proceeded to wait for another 20 min for the mildy retarted saleschick tried to mentally decipher what to do next!! Actually, that's insult to the clinically retarted, I think she was just super duper stupid! Now...finally I'm home and did get some good news. I FINALLY GOT THE CLEAR TO CLOSE ON THE SECOND PROPERTY!!!! WOOOOO FRIGGIN HOOOO! (We're in the $$$....da da ..teee dee)! Thank god for some good news today.

What'd I tell ya Aud - TOM for me is this weekend and I swear I almost popped one of my eyeballs out today with this Kinkos clerk! I know what it is...unfortunately...I learn too late! I usually have to have it out with DD21 or clerks or BF to say....hmmm...I need to stay away from the world for a few days! Geeezzzz...I knew something was wrong...cuz while I was waiting (45 friggin min) I could literally feel pressure building behind my eyeballs, my heart rate going up...and the compelling feeling to start throwing copies everywhere!!! Okay...there's my rant for the week...aaaahhhhh feels better. Thanks for listening! Take care all! Joyce

Man, it is hard to not have my food with me! Low carb and vegan IS difficult, I'm not gonna lie!!! There are so few options here at school for me...Basically broccoli and salad bar (not much there either). Thank Goddess I have some pecan halves in my bag! 22 pecans does not a breakfast make though. :(

I can't wait to get better and for DD's show to be done, so we don't have to all run around so much. Then there will be time for things like grocery shopping, cooking and so on.

Have a great day everyone!
