I'm posting here right now because I've had a very long, very emotional day. All through my class this afternoon I was thinking about mint oreo cookies and milk...and doughnuts. Up until a few minutes ago, I was intending to go to the grocery store to pick up some comfort food. Instead of doing what my compulsions are telling me to do, I'm going to make a real dinner, let it digest, then get some exercise accomplished. I'm then going to go after what's causing me all this stress: getting my homework done. I'm so over being stressed out all the time. I have a heavy courseload and a lot of work to get done, but I do spend a lot of time every day vegging out. I just need to focus. Eating an entire bag of oreos and 1/4 gallon of milk is not going to solve the problem--neither is moping about.
I'm writing my resolve down here, and in so doing I have worked my way through the urge to go out and binge. Thanks for being an outlet, ladies!

Lily-glad your daughter is okay. Take care of yourself.
The electrician finally came and boy did I feel like an idiot. I just tripped my GFI and had to have it reset. DUH! Now I can cook again.
I went to dog school. Fortunately, it was not strenuous. Tammy was kind of shy but by no means as fearful as some of the other dogs there. I think this will be an interesting class.

Lily - WOW...22 kids dead from the flu???? OMG!!! There's been a terrible strain of this flu here in Richmond, VA as well. Haven't heard of any deaths, but WOW...I'm sooo sorry to hear about your daughter. I'm glad she's doing fine now. You poor thing...you must have been an absolute mess cuz you've been doing all that "home remodelling" stuff so you must have been drained to begin with and then 5 days in the hospital (which I'm sure you probably lived there too while DD was sick). Geez...glad your back though! Give her (DD) a little extra hug for me!
Azure - GO ZENA CHICK! Not letting that mint cookie get the best of you! Ya know what keeps me in line when I'm baking choco-chip cookies in the oven and servin' em up to my 9yr old (ooooh the friggin smell...), I just remember all that damn working out I'm doing and how slow the fat's creeping off my a$$ and I think....hmmmm...NO WAY I'M REVERSING ALL MY HARD WORK...IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT! Seriously...I look at the cookie and see myself sweating, aching and agonizing at the gym...and POOF!..I just lost it for the cookie! Way to go girl! Your enthusiam is incredible...and you keep a lot of us older gals motivated...so hang in there...and remember...your gonna make it to the end this time!
Okay ladies...time for yet another moment of....ACCOUNTABILITY! Day 13 of my "Ripped" program. I decided to stop the supplements by NxCare...I do, like the evening thermogenic (it helps you burn fat while you sleep). What I notice is that is does increase my body temperature at night...I get a really peaceful sleep. Not sure if it's actually burning any fat cells off my a$$ in the middle of the night though..butt....who knows (yes, pun intended). Anyways...I think I'll stick with the evening thermogenic for now (maybe that's why things have been a little extra steamy w/BF????hmmm?) Okay...okay..anyways...I've also decided to change up my cardio a bit. I did 35 min. on level 4 on my recumbent bike and boy were my legs pumped afterwards...like Arnold Schwartenager! Went to Walmart and bought some L-Glutamine and Omega 3 Fish Oil caps...here these supplements are supposed to help with overall health (heart smart too) and fat metabolism..so..we'll see...and, as always, I'll keep ya all posted...good night all!

Azure, WTG on passing on the cookies and doughnuts.
carol, thanks.
petra, thanks.
Joyce, thanks. Yes , I never left the hospital while Lacy was there. I was very glad to come home today though. That little cot I slept on was hard as a rock and the food was horrible. My bones ache all over, partly from the Flu and partly from that cot. I already think this Tamiflu is helping me some cause I was sicker yesterday than I've been today. My tummy feels like I've done a zillion crunches just from the coughing.

Thanks for the book suggestion JerseyGyrl and Puncezilla. I looked in our library catalog and it was not there. I just made a purchase request but I will probably go to ebay or abebooks.com and order the book.
Yes, I love crime novels. I recently finish Jonathan Kellerman's series and his wife, Faye Kellerman. They are really good. Their son, Jesse, has a book now, too. I guess writing is in the family. For some laughs, you should read the Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. They are numbered [One for the Money, Four to Score] and they are hilarious. I am always laughing so hard I cry or falling off the couch. I also went through the British Chic Lit phase. Jane Green is awesome. She writes about women who are not perfect. Her book, Jemina J, is about a woman who just decided one day to change and went from 220 pounds to 120. There are a lot more details but I don't want to spoil the fun.

Gosh, Lily - I'm so sorry you've had to deal with all this stress, and, as Joyce said, especially when you've been working your *** off lately & must be feeling pretty whacked! Good to see you again, though, love!
Azure - I SO know where you're coming from! And I'm sincerely impressed by your maturity and control here - you know what you need to do to get to the root of the problem, and you didn't let the siren call of those seductive oreos-with-milk drag you into making a bad choice. Serious props to you! Similarly, I need to get on top of my own homework - tonight's going to be hellish, with all the marking I need to get done. Putting it off and procrastinating is NEVER the way forward, but I'm shocking. Time to change that. Meanwhile - no, I'm afraid that sewing isn't my forte - my mum used to make all her own clothes (and mine when I was wee!) but I never learned. I'd love to, though! I have friends who do RenFaire and so forth, and I have one friend who MADE HER OWN FRIGGING CORSET! It was STUNNING! I'd love to have that skill. As to my own clothing alterations - I've got a tailor I go to here, and I've sort of promised myself I'm not going to go and see her until my favourite skirts are actually falling off.* (And I think I may ask her to make me a couple of new ones, copied from the original, as she's done before for me - that way I get to keep the original skirt and do that whole 'Wow, look how much weight I've lost!' thing, eventually.)
Quote:
I'm still thinking of a warrior princess I can aspire to. Are there any old ones out there?...I wonder if I should admit that I have no idea how to get an avatar or even a ticker? I really need to take the time to figure that all out, but when...?
|
How old are we thinking? Because Lena Olin kicks some serious *** in Alias, and she's hot hot hot! Or there's Susan Sarandon? As to the ticker and the avatar - it's not that tricky, really, I swear! Go into User CP up at the top left of the screen, and that's where you can update your avatar and add a ticker or signature. There are ready-made avatars there that you can pick from, if you'd rather not upload a photo from your computer! As to the ticker - check out tickerfactory.com. You can follow the instructions on the site to tailor make your own ticker, then copy and paste the code into your signature here.
Quote:
Also, I finished Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich in two days. It was hysterical. I was crying from laughing so hard.
|
She's good, isn't she? I've only read one or two of her books, but I'm very fond of that genre (albeit I tend to read the horror/fantasy variations on the theme, with ***-kicking vampire slayers and witches and so forth. There are some DREADFUL writers in that field, mind you, but there are also some very readable ones). Sylvia, my friend was just telling me about Jemima J the other day! It sounds good.
*...although I now realise that if they're close to falling off, I probably should stop wearing them to work, to avoid flashing the little'uns!

I knew something was wrong lily. Will keep you & ddlacy in my prayers. My temp got up to 104 when I had the Type A&B-both strains flu last month - I think I saw my Grandma. No joke - this flu is somewicked sh!t.
I'm stressed beyond stressed at work . . . almost ate a box of Tagalongs - but my WP stopped me. No joke. I just keep thinking of Linda's arms - have got this whole visualization thing going - not sure why or what its about but I'm loving it - Tx for the idea azzie & hang in there girl!
I am an audio-book-a-holic. I still read books--mainly true crime---but listen to crime fiction almost exclusively. Walked manymany milesto the Plum series - totally forget I'm walking, ya know?
Hiya Fay! It is just sooo nice to have you here in the Wee Hours! Used to feel so cyber-alone b4 bed - totally awesome Post you made to butterfly dreams!
That reminds me butterflyD - how'd grocery shopping go? Didja see the chip replacement recipe I Posted a page or two back? Got that one stuck in my mind - definitely want to try - but just gonna keep the ingredients on hand and wait for the "chip urge" - trying to get in touch with my "true" hunger, ya know?

I still have this respiratory crud which seems to be getting worse everyday instead of better. It's now getting into my chest. I'm supposed to go to a nursing home today so obviously not doing that. I also start call today. We take call for a week at a time. I think I can field pages from my bed. Hopefully, I will be well enough to work by the weekend.
SIC-where are you? Hope you are doing okay.

Lordy! This sickness is laying a lot of people low. Lily, I'm sorry about your daughter. She can't catch a break lately first the kidney stone and now this. You must be completely wiped out. I was so glad to see a post from you but so sorry to hear what a hard time you have been having.
Aud: Right there with you on work stress (as ya know). I keep waiting for the day when I say, "I don't give a crap this is a job" but so far that hasn't happened.
Petra: I hope you feel better soon.
Azure: Go You!!!! First for not caving and second for identifying the cause of your stress and dealing with it. Many, Many, Many folks are not able to do that.
Syliva and Book Fans: Also an avid reader here. Often up to 40 books a month. My greatest escape (besides 3FC). I have loved all of the Stefanie Plum books. A huge fan of Martha Grimes, Ruth Rendell and Elizabeth George. I read a lot of...pretty much everything. I'm going to run out and pick up Jemima J today sounds terrific.
Super busy yesterday and last night so I caught up on all the posts this morning. Have not done Bodypump since last Wed and will be trying to get to the Saturday class. Still using my recumbent bike on max for 30 minutes. I don't try to move quickly with the pedals I just try to pump at a steady and consistent rate. It brings on a much heavier sweat for me.
Aud: I watched our boy Dan last night for a bit. Such a cutie potootie. I tried to stay up for the new episode of Ghost Hunters (because they never fail to crack me up) but I just couldn't do it. Was in my bedie bye at 8:30.
Hope everyone has a great day. I'm meeting a contractor today to walk an eight mile trail system to check for erosion and necessary repairs. Looks like I'll get my exercise in that way. Have to remember to bring along my snake stick!!!

Poor Lily and poor Lacy. Your post makes me want to go check on my DD. I guess the high school would think it was a little strange though if I interrupted classes to put my hand on her forehead. I've heard good things about Tamiflu, although being over tired and stressed doesn't help! Maybe it'll be a mild case.
Thanks Faye for the techno info. I really do need to wait and do it at home, but now I have a better idea of what to look for.
Joyce, i'll show your tips about real estate to my DH when he gets back. he's gone on business until Monday.
I'll miss exercise today. I have to work until about 9 p.m. and I'm not real happy about the storm headed this way. DD15 gets a ride home around 8 p.m. and she'll be there by herself until I get home. What if I get stuck? I told DH my worries and he just laughed at me. I guess I am being a little premature since we may not get the storm. The weather guys are wrong alot about snow! I left the house this morning with an entire cooler full of food. Lunch and dinner for me. dinner for DD (she'll eat at the dance studio). No fast food!! Hurrah for us! I don't usually manage to be so organized.
Azure, I remember the feeling of school stress. In fact I still have "the dream" - the one where I discover it's the end of the semester and, Oops, I forgot to go to class for the entire semester. But I also remember talking to a counselor way back in the day when I was so stressed about homework I thought I would implode. His advice (years before Nike) "Just do it." Once you get going, it's not as bad as it seems before you start. Good luck and good job not eating Oreo's. My choice would have been even worse than oreos and Milk. I would have been looking for beer and nachos. Or warm cheese dip. Or chili cheese dogs.....

Sorry to hear so many of you are sick, I hope everyone feels better soon . It's scarry when the flu starts killing young people!
Az, I love to sew, I make toys and sell them on Etsy, like the one on my avatar. I have had afew jobs and learned to sew lots of things, including bomb suits, bullet proof vests, haz-mat gear fire suits, tents, etc.. I have sewn some clothes at home too.
Good for you addressing what was realy bothering you rather than drowning it out with cookies. Sometimes having a messy house is more stresfull and tiring than actualy cleaning it, I'm such a procrastinator myself.
Sylvia, I'm going to request Jimina J to read it sounds good, and thanks for the other sugestions aswell I'm always looking for new books to read.
Feel better everyone!!

Hi and thanks everyone. I'm feeling a little better today. It is good to be home at least. Our weather is crazy, a few days in the 70's, now it's sleeting and snowing. I've spent my morning paying all my bills before the collectors start calling.
I weighed this morning and am down 3 lbs. from being sick. Hope it stays down but it probably won't once I get re-hydrated. I feel hungry finally and am going to go cook me and Lacy a late breakfast.
Lacy has Prom this Saturday night and is hoping to be all well by then.
BTW, if any of you even start to think you are getting the Flu, that Tamiflu really works even though it's a little expensive. (mine was $60.00 with insurance, but it costs $190.00 without insurance, OUCh). Lacy's Dr. gave scripts for it for DH and Shelbey too but they don't feel sick yet.

So glad you checked in again lily . . . sending )))))PROM Vibes((((( to Lacy!<<<<<Hope she doesn't dance like Beloved Carrot tho'!
JerseyGyrl: If you happen to read this . . . how did you go from eating large quantities to being satisfied . . I'm sure it will have to do with identifying true hunger vs emotional eating . . . but even realizing that - was there something special you did to turn off the "overload quantity switch?" Also - just saw "Greek Yogurt" at the market & trying to remember if it was you that eats it . . . what's the significance of that vs lc yogurt?
Hurrying on out gals - MAJOR upheaval at work on the way & steeling my backbone . . . girding my loins . . . whatEVAH . . . to not react the same ole way so I don't get what I've always gotten, ya know? *putting on my Warrior Princess Armor to protect from that tiresome eventuality!!!*

Hello ladies!!!!
I have not been posting lately and decided to stop by and say hello. I see everyone is doing great, with some up and downs but still good. I have been on pland and loosing weight. I went tot he Dr. and he put me on Metformin due to my PCOS and it has helped me even more with the weight loss. I was starting to stall and had a few weeks of no loss and as soon as I started the Metformin it helped me loose some more. I still have to follow a low carb and lots of excercise but I think it will help control my IR a lot better.
Well, again hello and hope everyone has a wonderful day!!
