Uh oh.. think I messed everything up :(

Hello all! Well I started back on low carb to finally get to my goal. I slacked off a LOT the last 6 months or so and gained back 25 pounds from 60 :( But its only been 3 days and I am down 4.5 pounds already.

For snacks I have been eating pickles and beef jerky. However after eating a bunch of jerky tonight I noticed it has 5 grahams of sugar per serving! Ouch! Can I expect my weight loss to stall? I ate like 2 servings :(

10 extra grams of sugar in a day (10 more carbs in addition to what you were already eating) isn't going to be detrimental in the long run. You might, if you weigh daily, see some slight scale fluctuation--but it's not fat, it's glycogen/water.

If you're worried about getting discouraged, don't weigh yourself for a few days to give your body the chance to get the extra sugar out of your system and balance back out--it's no big deal. :)

The lowest grams of carbs per ounce of Jerky I've been able to find has 2g carbs per ounce. It's actually the "original" WalMart brand Jerky. Besides that one, the lowest I've found is 3g per serving--I have yet to find a zero-carb beef jerky. I still eat the 2g/ounce jerky--it's a great on-the-go snack with a load of protein.

So, don't sweat it--and be sure to check (and re-check, and compare) your food labels! There are hidden sugars and refined carbohydrates everywhere.

Thanks! I also read somewhere that too much Splenda can also cause stalls. I have been drinking a ton of sparkling water and I know it probably has a lot. Hasn't caused me any trouble yet. Do some people still lose weight while intaking lots of splenda?

Yes. Just like anything else, everyone's body has a different level of sensitivity to SPlenda. Some people have horrible reactions (such as migraines), while other people don't have any reaction to it at all. The reason it may "cause" weight stalls is that people who eat things even sweetened with low- or no-calorie sweeteners sometimes eat MORE food overall--it's not really the Splenda's fault.

If you are doing Atkins, Splenda (or any artificial sweetener) should be limited to 3 packets per day. Just because it is no calorie does not mean it can not stall some people. Over indulging in any food, low calorie, low carb etc. can still cause weight stalls & weight gain. As with anything else, moderation is the key.

I'm losing and seeing great muscle gains...and honestly...I go through about 1/4 bag of the jumbo bag (walmart sells it) of splenda per week. I don't watch my "splenda" instake...cuz I like to taste the sweetness in my coffee. I haven't had any stalls...I also exercise 5-6 days per week.:carrot: Like Jillybean said...it depends on YOU...and how it affects you...if it triggers the "overeat" response...then you should probably cut down or avoid it. There are other sweetners that are great as well..."Erythritol" is a good one and has 0 effect on blood sugar. It can be ordered online through netrition.com. Remember the bottom line weight loss is attributed to this formula and this formula only (it's science and we can't beat that!): calories in vs. calories out = results. So...since splenda has 0 calories...it couldn't scientifically make you "gain weight/fat"...but it could make you retain water or something like that. Exercise is key to avoid all that crap...when you exercise...you don't have to worry about this little calorie and that little gram of that...don't get me wrong...you don't want to sabotage your weight loss efforts by binging at Mickey Dees or anything like that...but when you exercise regulary...you don't have to stress about every gram! I'm on Atkins and I eat fruit (including bananas)...splenty of Splenda, but I stay away from breads, sugars, refined carbs and I stay in Ketosis. Just my experience though...hope this helps.
