Hi from one of your neighbors

Hi Everyone,

I'm a neighbor - generally post on one of the age-related Support Groups - the Over 50 group.

I've been following a VERY lo-carb way of eating for almost a year. I found out in May that I have type 2 diabetes & have been working with a nutritionist.

Here's my problem - last time I got my blood tested, my LDL was too high. So, now I need to worry about saturated fat as well as carbs and calories.

Are any of you combining low-carb with low-fat?

Lynn

How high is your LDL and what is your HDL as well as your total cholesterol? Just out of curiosity? I am like you a diabetic who follows low carb to control blood sugar.

With my diet I have found that my LDL went down and my HDL went up so I feel like you don't need to follow a low fat diet in order to get that cholesterol better. You can always make better protein choices and I guess I try to but I do have a lot of sausage... but I try to eat lot of turkey, chicken. I can't seem to stomach fish too much.

Anyway, the reason I ask... is I have read a lot of things about cholesterol and the HDL is much more significant than the LDL as well as some other things I've read about LDL.

:welcome2: Lynn!

The Atkins way of eating is not meant to be done in combination with low-fat. The good Dr. himself advised against trying to do a low fat version of Atkins as it interferes with fat burning and can derail your weight loss.

As far as your cholesterol goes, you might want to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, as well as, Gary Taubes book Good Calories Bad Calories & also Dr. Malcom Kendrick's, The Great Cholesterol Con. I think you may them all quite interesting.

Most people on Atkins have reduced their cholesterol numbers dramatically!

All the best to you!!
