Coralie, I second that!
I hearby solemnly swear to walk everyday for half an hour and do my ab work and my weights..........unless I have something better to do! Hmmm.....nope, that was last month's resolution! I REALLY need 1/2 hour per day of walking and I have not got that since August! Bad girl! No manservant for you this year! (How about a pool boy?) Ok, who's up for a New Years Fitness Challenge on Jan 1?? (or Jan 3rd in case I get the pool boy!) |
I have been extremely sporadic about exercising so I would say that I have lost 12 pounds since November 1 without any. However, I will go back to my four to five day stint at the gym every week. Simply stated, you can lose fat without exercising but as I always say, dieting is priming the lump of clay, and training is creating a sculpture from it.

That is so true...if I don't exercise, my lump of clay might get smaller, but it LOOKS like a lump.

I just read an interesting article on diet and exercise that sheds a different light on things. If you lose weight without exercise, a percentage of the lost weight is bone mass, which increases your chances of osteoporosis and fractures later. Exercise increases bone density. Your pounds lost may vary, but it's more important to lose the fat, not bone.

I have to admit... :^: I have not excercised at all this entire time (I started back in May '06 with the calories counting) God only knows how much more I could have lost if I had actually worked out. I am really going to try to integrate that into my healthier new lifestyle of calorie counting. (Other than ice skating on the weekends, I don't do any excecise whatsoever) Anyone else like me out there that are willing to admit it? :D

Good point! Plus, I have lost my butt :( which sucks. I think I need to throw in lunges... I gotta go work out!
|
Do NOT lose the butt!
Get on the stairmaster and lean forward. Or do like I did. Born to a Caribbean woman! ;-) |
My butt is the first place I noticably lose weight--it stinks! It's already too flat...I get that baggy part in the butt of my pants right below the butt but above the thighs...so annoying! But I also have bad knees, so I can't do things like the StairMaster, squats, or lunges. Oh well...at least it's going from somewhere, right? :dizzy:

If you go to RunnersWorld.com you will see a bunch of therapeutic exercises to strengthen the knees. May not do much for your butt, but with healthy knees, you can lean forward.

For bad knees, the eliptical has been a lifesaver! I can get just as intense a cardio workout as with running but without the hard impact on the joints. If you increase the level of the machine (just like increasing the incline on a treadmill), it should give the thighs a pretty good workout. I used the elipticals all the time when I had a gym membership, and now I keep an eye out for an ad for a used one that I might be able to buy for my apartment.
