Do You Eat Popcorn at the Movies?

I know, I know... it's not good for you. But I have a hard time resisting the popcorn when we go to a movie! Sometimes I'll let myself have a small, no butter/oil added. Do you eat the popcorn? Do you get something else? Do you skip it all?

Saw the nutritional info a while ago (even without added butter)...SHOCK...So, no I don't eat it anymore. I used to get it every time before I was enlightened. Maybe you could smuggle in a 100 cal microwave popcorn bag or two instead?!

However...I think it really depends on just how you decide to allocate your calories for the day. I just decided a real meal was better than a tiny serving of popcorn.

God no. The popcorn at the movies is like a calorie bomb. Even a small size , UNBUTTERED is 400 calories, 27 grams of fat. Knowing how terrible it is, it doesn't even smell good to me anymore.

I have to admit, even back in the old days, I didn't eat movie theatre popcorn very much because I am CHEAP and it kills me to pay 5.00 for 50 cents worth of popcorn. These days, I smuggle in dried fruit to the movies - easily fits in a purse or pocket.

Nope we usually take our sandwiches! NERD ALERT!

Ha, that reminds me of something moderately amusing that happened to me at the movies. I had gone to see Saving Private Ryan and the movie started and it is VERY dramatic and painful, with the soldiers storming the beach and dying. The woman next to me unwraps a TUNA fish sandwich and starts eating it - the smell was very distracting during that part of the movie! I understand eating at the movies, but a tuna fish sandwich while the movie is showing heart wrenching scenes?

Have you tried Kernel Season's? If i crave popcorn (granted at home) I use that as my topping b/c it's really low cal. www.nomorenakedpopcorn.com

YES! YES! YES! I think it's un-necessary to cut out the fun, yummy popcorn... how often are you going to the movies? If you're like me, it's not too oftern -- so I go for it!

I smuggle in the 100 calorie bags.....bring a big purse.

If you think you just can't resist the popcorn, try working in a movie theater, even for just a week. You'll get sick of it really fast :dizzy: I worked in a movie theater for about a year and a half, and I can't eat ANY popcorn anymore, whether it be at the movies, at home, or at a fair.

Keep in mind that even if you don't add any butter (or what they call "butter" ), most theaters pop the corn in oil anyway, so you can't avoid the added fat/calories.

Even before I worked in the theater, though, I guess I just never really understood the whole popcorn-movie connection. Why not bring a healthier treat to enjoy? Why does it have to be popcorn? I guess I just don't think of popcorn as being all that special of a treat. If I'm going to splurge, it's going to be on something much more worth the calories :p

I don't eat or drink anything at the movies. At some point, long before I started trying to lose weight, I just got out of the habit of it (and if I drink anything, I'm just going to have to pee in the middle of the movie ;) ). I'm sure I picked up this behavior from my SO, who is so freaked out at the idea of paying $10 for a movie (seriously, even if we could find a $5 movie somewhere I think he'd still consider that awfully pricey--hence, we don't see a lot of movies) that he doesn't even for one minute consider paying for the overpriced food offered there.

I usually have a Deit Coke from the theatre, and then I nibble on a small snack that I brought myself-such as a Luna Bar or a box of raisins. Something somewhat nutritious, but "sweet", so it feels like a treat.

I find the movie theater popcorn to be way too salty for me. I used to love it though! When I was growing up, we always bought popcorn and candy and pop to gorge on (at least it seems that way now) while watching a movie. My DH said they never bought stuff to eat at the movie theater. That's probably a good thing though, because he doesn't associate eating candy while watching a movie. (Me? Where are the Milk Duds?!!) We have smuggled bottles of diet pop in though... ;)

Oh, movie popcorn. How much do I love thee? I find it impossible to avoid it. The smell of the butter topping makes my mouth salivate. I always get it when I go so I just don't go to the movies often now. :carrot:

Hah. I just finished working at the cinema and it was the opposite for me, having a discount, and getting free stuff just made it more tempting.

Mmm, i love the toffee popcorn, salty popcorn smothered with butter, and nachos with the fake cheese. so so good.

Before i worked there i never used to eat at the cinema, and now i've left i'l probably go back to my old habit without my discount.

:D

I don't eat anything at the theatres. I eat dinner before the movie, not hungry when I get there, and the garbage is seriously overpriced!
