Banana Crisis!!! (lol)

  • Ok, so on my fitday, one medium banana is 109 calories. Then, i decided to weigh it, and my scale said (without the peel) it weighs about 2.75 oz. So I plugged that in with the option "oz yields" and it said it was 46 calories. That is quite the difference. I dont understand whats going on here. Does anyone know?
  • cards fan here, too :)
Maybe the oz yield was counting the peeling? No way I'd count a medium banana as only 46 calories. I always thought a medium one was 100 calories, and usually eat 1/2 for 50, giving the other 1/2 to DH.

Btw, have you seen the mini 4" bananas now available? They taste the same, and my grandkids love them.
  • I love the tiny bananas, they are so good! Different varieties do have slightly different flavors and textures. I bought some finger sized bananas in an asian grocery store, and the fruit inside was a little more butter colored, and the banana was a little sweeter but with a little less "banana" flavor and a creamier texture. Though the "strings" were tougher (I try to avoid them anyway, yuck).
  • bananas are known for being a high calorie fruit, so i would trust your inital cals for the banana, not for the weight. but remember, those are not empty calories, so they are okay to eat b/c they are not only filling, but have those nutrients you need, unlike those empty little devils we are so tempted to eat, lol!

  • Yes, i was going to go with the "medium" measurement, better safe than sorry i guess. The way fitday works is a mystery to me sometimes. I wish they'd be more specific.
