Hi, all!
Having a pretty good weekend. Got a copy of Flip the Switch to accompany Business Plan for the Body. Been reading the Flip the switch and my word! he certainly addresses they why of why can I not lose the weight and keep it off. Those two books coupled with understanding the calories in/out principles I think will finally help me get where I want to go. Hope everyone is having success. Aphil, feeling anything yet??? ;) |
Doing well here. I am hoping to drop a little bit this week. I am going to push myself as hard as I can.
Aphil~have you had the baby??? |
You all are giving very good tips here. I agree with the sugar in snacks like the 100 calorie ones. I have blood sugar drops and a lite chesse stick and a little fruit or veggies gets me through much better......I use to have some candy until I learned differently here at 3fc.

Back Again!!!
Hi Everyone,
Its been a while since I've posted as I've been in the UK for a few weeks visiting family and friends ... and I'm ashamed to say that I completely went overboard as far as my eating habits are concerned ... not helped by my mother's VERY unhealthy cooking!! I'm now back in Hong Kong but have visitors from the UK staying with us until 16 August, which is making it awfully difficult for me to stay on track! I'm really looking forward to getting back into a 'normal' routine again next week when they depart. I'm really excited about re-starting my healthy eating plan. My son and daughter are constantly going on at me about my weight gain, and my hubby is concerned about my health and begging me to try to lose weight and get down to a healthy weight level. I know I have to do something about it ... my family has a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis, so I need to do something before it's too late for me. I've promised my family that I intend to succeed this time and I don't intend to let them down ... or myself! Looking forward to being a part of this great thread again!:) Nichola |
I have not been good this week, I only made it to the gym once, and eating has been not good, not bad. Dh is on vacation next week, and we have talked about getting in to the gym 5 times so we can get back into the swing of things. Kiddies have been sick, and that threw us off. Have a grerat weekend if I don't get back on!!!
|
Helloo....Heellooo>>>>Anyone out there?
Hugs to all!!!! |
HI I am new to this group, I have been calorie counting/exercising for 10 days now lost pounds last week!! I am trying to only get on the scale on Mon. mornings.
My name is Jeni I am 29, married with two kids 3 and 10months. My highest weight was pre-pregnancy with my oldest at 199. (that was almost 4 years ago) I have been up and down since then but now I am back up and would like to lose it properly and for good. I have a great support system at home, but it is nice to have committed people going and counting right beside me. |
Hi All,
My visitors have finally left and I feel totally relieved that I can now get back to a 'normal' routine. I'm actually sick and tired of eating so much ... I know I wasn't exactly forced to do it, but eating out and entertaining visitors EVERY night that they were here was a nightmare. I feel so uncomfortable, none of my clothes fit ... heaven knows what I'm going to wear when I go back to work next week after the summer hols:eek: Anyway, I'm feeling very positive right now and I'm glad to finally be able to get back on track with no distractions. I know this is something I'm going to have to deal with along the way ... life is full of distractions ... I need to learn how to cope with them. Hi Jeni, nice to meet you ... our stats are very similar. I'm restarting my weightloss plan for hopefully the last time, so perhaps we can count along together! Good luck! Nichola |
Hi, all!
I've been MIA for a few weeks - sorry! Managed to lose another couple of pounds and getting the Calories in - Calories out = body weight idea firmly entrenched in my mind. Also learning that my being overweight is a result of my eating behavior and not genetic or having big bones (which I don't). All my excuses went out the window as resolve and determination came in the front door, LOL! I'll post more later. Has Aphil had her baby yet? Cheers! Claire |
Yes...I had him 12 days ago. :)
I was in labor for a week-starting Friday night the 5th...over the course of the weekend it took me to 3cm dilated by Monday morning with 20 minute apart contractions (slow going)...and then from Monday-Wednesday that week they slowly became closer to 7-8 minutes apart. By Thursday morning I was between 4-5cm, and the doctor did an ultrasound to estimate his size to see which route we would have to take. (regular or c-section-as I have a history of very large babies with complications during labor/delivery due to that.) As always, there was a huge rush that week at the hospital in the OB department due to the coming of the full moon-which tends to cause lots of women to start labor. (It DOES happen...one of the other moderator's here at 3FC as well is a new grandmother-her DIL gave birth about 2 days before I did, while I was in early labor at home-and there were about 15 babies born that week at our hospital-and we live in a small town. :D ) I went in to the hospital Thursday around lunchtime after the ultrasound, and walked the OB floor to try to strengthen the contractions and progress further. It worked a little-it got me to 6cm...but I was wore out after 6 days of laboring at home, and the doctor went ahead and broke my water Thursday evening to try to speed things along some. He was born Friday, August 11th, at 3:20 in the morning. I was able to have him naturally, though. I was just over 36 weeks pregnant out of 40-so he was born almost 4 weeks early. He weighed in at 9 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 21" long. At 40 weeks the estimated weight would have been very high 10's or low 11's as far as pounds. Because he was early, he was actually my "smallest" baby. :) (My others were 10 pounds, 4 ounces at full term, and 9 pounds, 4 ounces at 3 weeks early.) His name is Saber Phoenix Tyree Phillippe. His middle names are in honor of my paternal grandmother who passed away when I was pregnant with my second baby. Tyree was her Scottish maiden last name, and the phoenix is a bird in legend/mythology who bursts into flames when it dies, and then reincarnates itself into a new baby bird out of its own ashes. :) In the Dieting With Obstacles section of the 3FC forum, there is a pregnant/nursing subforum there-and I have posted a picture of Saber taken when he was 2 days old. Take a peek if you want. :) I am just starting (Monday) to get back into slow, gentle exercise. I am doing light walking, postnatal workouts, and gentle dancing. Nothing too strenuous yet...and light weights only-because I am not cleared yet to go back to my normal weights. |
:balloons: Congradulations Aphil!!!:balloons:
|
Aphil, he is just beautiful!!!
Sorry your labor went on for a week -- my daughter-in-law is expecting her second in a few weeks and insists on doing everything naturally. Good for her! We all think it will be another boy, but we'll be thrilled with whoever it is that arrives!! thanks for the update. Glad you're healing up and feeling thinner! Hugs! Claire |
Congratulations Aphil
:woo: Amy, thanks so much for the descriptive post. I get the e-mails from 3FC and that helped get me over here. :balloons: :cheer:
I have to get back to my calorie counting. Have been walking more consistently lately, and seeing some very slow results. Yes, its calories in calories out for sure. The minute I stop grazing and get to meals I lose weight. But I do need to monitor my intake somehow and if I'm not on a food plan which has the count built in, I'd better count my own calories. I'll read a few posts but I don't know how many are there to catch up on. |
Congrats....Aphil...what a labor you had. But you have a strong new beatutiful boy and I love his name and the meanings behind it.
Off to see the picture....Take care, Phyllis |
Thank you!
Walking for exercise today...and maybe a little dance. :D |
Hi!!
I have jumped on the "Doin It the Old Fashion Way" Band wagon. and this Calorie Counters Forum and the threads here.......hope you don't mind my being here. I am really enjoying this 'new way' for me...I was a Pts counter...and still am in the habit of tracking them.....habits are hard to break I guess, but slowly I am weeding that out of my Spread Sheet. Calorie Counting is enjoyable and more focusing for me. My choices are better also. There is a lot to read here but don't know if I'll get to it all...but I did want to say CONGRATS Aphil on the birth of your new baby boy!! Although I didn't know where to find the picture that was mentioned :?: I have added Treadmilling to my plan and am loving it... This Calorie Counting is a learning process for me but something I am so very much enjoying....I make it a 'funtime' for me. Well I just wanted to say hello real quick and hope to be able to join you and the other threads here more often. |
If you go to the main forum page (where ALL the forum categories are) there is a category called "Dieting With Obstacles". Under that category is the subcategory "pregnant/nursing". The thread is in there. :D He is 2 weeks old today. :D
|
Hi all,
Lunch out and I didn't count but I watched the carbs, which I know is a big help. Hope you're all op. |
Morning everyone!
Just checking in...I weigh in on Mondays, and this Monday just past I lost a little over a pound from last week. :) |
HI all! Sorry I have been MIA. THings just get so hectic, and I get a little depressed, so I don't post alot then. But I know I should. I have been maintaining, but I really want to start losing soon. I have been hitting the gym 3 days a week for a couple of weeks now. I was going to get four in, but one of our cars had to get fixed, so I missed a day, but at least I wil still get three in!!!. I just went shopping, got tons of veggies and fruit. I am feeling pumped, and I think that is because I have maintained, even with TOM on the way. Will try to be better about posting. ((hugs))
|
Well, ok, I've been off that wagon again, and could use the support. I'm happy to hear from you all.
|
Hope everyone is having a good holiday week-end. We're sticking close to home so that will make the food choices easier. Dropped another pound this week, it really helps to get some exercise in.
Hi Lisi, good to see you back on track. Phyllis |
Hi Ladies,
Wow, all new people here.... I have not posted in many months! I am still maintaining but working to get to my goal weight. It is nice to hear from you Amy and hear that you have a new baby boy!!! That is great. Also you are still fighting the fight Lisi. Hi to all the newer ladies. I have posted here for a long time and have missed it. I am really busy at work and do not get to post. I am struggling to maintain and it is not easy. I am not done loosing but if maintaining is all I can do at the moment, it will have to do. I have had such a hard time over the past 6-8 months to loose. I never loose a lb. only gain a few or stay the same. I know I need to go to another level to loose but I feel so stretch thin as it is... LOL One day at a time I say..... I am doing all the same stuff as far as walking, eliptical and weight training.... eating is not so good but I am holding on and have not gone all the way back so..... Anyone hear from Holly lately? Amie |
Hi Amie!
Great to see you back in here. :D Saber is a month old this week, and we are doing well. I am up to exercising about 20-40 minutes per day now-depending on how long he will let me put him down. I could do more-but I have to wait for his schedule to become slightly more predictable with longer nap periods. I have lost a few pounds since his birth-I just haven't had the time to put my stats up here yet. I will do that soon. I have to be careful not to lose too quickly right now-since I am still eating for two. (nursing) I can't go below 1800 calories a day right now at the absolute bare minimum-I am currently losing on 2000-2200 a day, since I am feeding him about 10+ times a day. Yesterday I did 40 minutes in two, 20 minute intervals. I did 20 minutes of weights early in the day during his nap...and in the evening I walked a 20 minute mile on the treadmill while DH held him to keep him occupied. I am really trying to get some of my core strength back in my abs and back so that I can start doing some more strenuous dance movements again. I don't know about everyone else-but we all need to buckle down and get in here more often and get this thread back up and busy again. I need the motivation, and I would be happy to give you all a kick in the behind as well. I need to get back to my former self again. I have costumes to fit into again. Today is Jasmine's birthday (my oldest) and she is 8. I eating a little lighter this morning and at lunch to allow for dinner out tonight. (I am NOT skipping meals though, which is a no-no...just eating lighter.) Wish me luck on making healthy choices tonight. :D I also bought a 6 pack of cupcakes from the grocery store bakery-rather than baking them myself-because a home recipe usually makes 24 cupcakes...and I don't want to have that many around the house. I figure this way-they are gone TONIGHT, with no cupcakes laying around to tempt me for the next couple of days. Exercise for today will be yoga and cardio...I need it. :) |
Amy, you are doing great after giving birth just a month ago! Don't push your self too hard. Like you know boys/ breast feeders eat more often and breast feeding it self helps with weight loss. You always seem so full of energy! Good Luck......
I need to some how get back into weight loss mode????? After my surgery I had an instant 10lbs loss and I think my body put half that right back on because it was such a extreme loss. Now I am stabilized but am noticing since surgery which was in Feb. 06 I am just not working as strong and eating is off a bit. I am gaining like a lb ever few months? Then I will loose 1 and maintain for a months and gain a lb..... I know it is that I am being too slack on my food choices and portions and the exercise is not enough, just enough to maintain a little.... I feel really good at this weight but have a few lbs I want to loose in weird places like my back. I have like a thick fatty place at the bra line? Also inner thigh area? Maybe 15 lbs? How do you loose BACK fat? I do use my weights and do a few different exercises that target that bra line area but don't see any change?? Maybe more cardio... LOL |
I'm here, too!!
I have been busy being off plan for a couple of weeks and somehow found my way back to sanity. :dizzy: Aphil, that's great that you are getting back to your pre-baby self. Our granddaughter arrived on September 2 and her mom is doing well also. Hard to believe Saber is a month old already! Amie, glad to see you back. I remember your posts and am glad you're back here. You'll get those extra few stubborn old pounds off. Isn't it funny where they hide? On your back where you can't see 'em, and other spots? will post more later. And I'll help get the thread going again, along with everyone else! |
Amie-
You can't lose in one particular area-such as the back area around your bra. Everyone carries their weight in different places-and it comes off in whatever way it sees fit. There always seems to be one or two places where it comes off "last" for most of us-our problem areas. For me-it is my legs and butt, and for you it sounds like the back and middle area are your areas. Basically-as you get closer to goal, with exercise, you will lose those remaining fat deposits. You can't change your body type, though-and you are an apple-which means you will always be a little larger up top, and smaller down below. I am hourglass-so I can get a small middle pretty easily-but I will always have a "butt" and be curvier in the upper arms and thigh areas. Our shape is our "shape"...but with proper diet and exercise, and the right clothes we can make the best of it. :D One thing that you can think about to get you motivated again-is to think about what all you went through with your surgery. You had your tummy tuck because of all the extra skin you had around the middle after losing the bulk of your weight. Since you are an apple, if you gain all that weight back and have to lose it all over-then it will go back around the middle area once more-and you will be back to square one again with more loose skin in your belly area. I don't think after the pain, and the financial costs-that you want your surgery to be for nothing. Right now your gain has just been a couple of pounds-but a "maintainer" stops the gain when it is a coupel pounds-rather than letting that turn into a larger amount such as 15, 25, or 50 pounds gained. Everyone slips now and then-but maintenance is for life. It is normal to have a small relapse of a couple pounds now and then-but the key is to get proactive with that and turn it around before it gets out of control again. If you need the accountability-I am here. :) I am so glad you are back-sounds like we need it. :) We have Lisi, and Waterbaby, and some of us thread "oldies" here who have known each other for a long time on 3FC. I am glad we are all back and trying to get moving again. :) |
I am most definitely an APPLE ! Every day I think about the fact that each 1 lb that creeps in is a 1lb further from my goal, a lb closer to my old body and that it is going right to my tummy!! I am so fearful now that I will gain weight back and mess up my surgery. It was the right choice for me and has changed my life so much. I can work out better, wear my close right…..Since a child I have always put a tee over my bathing suit, this summer I bought my first bikini and NO tee…. I love it and can not go back! I am not giving up at all but am struggling for the energy to work out more and am sliding on my eating. I am in a mental battle with my self right now. LOL I am doing great one day on eating and a work out then will do bad for a day or two then great again for 2 days then bad for a day where before I was just maybe having 1 bad day a week or even ever other week! The one thing I can say is I am still working out and am aware and that is key in not going back……. I think some of it is that I have been on track for 3 years with a few humps and I think I just get bored or tired and will slack off and then you have a hard time getting back into it. I let my self get comfortable and now it is time to get Uncomfortable!
Thanks… I need a good kick in the A** right now for sure! LOL |
Hi all! I am still here too. Life has been up and down these past couple of weeks, and so my plan has been off. No real damage, just didn't go anywhere. Amiee, I know you can get yourself moving, you are such an inspiration! Keep your self moving, and eventually the pounds will come off!
I have been getting to the gym, but not as much as I would like, having sick kiddies gets in the way. I was planning to go today, but DD2 seems to be getting a UTI, and so now I have to take her to the doc, If I can make it there before DS gets out of school today I would be happy. Well, Have to run. Later Chicas! |
Seems like a lot of us have been slacking a bit lately! I know I did for most of the summer. I'm calling it "maintaining" rather than a plateau! LOL. I think I gained and lost the same 3 pounds all summer long, but no more!!! At the beginning of September, I made myself a 4 pound goal, and as of this morning, I'm down 1.5 pounds (well, it's actually more because I didn't start counting until I got back to 143)! I'm remotivated with exercise, too, because the temperatures here have cooled down for the weekend, so I plan on my 4+ mile walk Saturday and Sunday mornings!
|
Wooowee!!!! So glad to hear from all of you. 2 amie's, what a bonus!!!!! I have been so totally away from monitoring my food. Now I hear a D friend is on Jennie Craig and lost 40 lbs. I sure would like to hop back on the wagon - not JC though.
I am up another 2.8 lbs not showing on my chart. Did better with more awareness yesterday and lost .2. Out to walk now. I'm a total failure at getting to bed 11PM. That would eliminate so many "dont give a darn" night calories. xxxo |
Ok 2 lbs gone :carrot: ,
Were are you, girls? |
Wow, how cool is this. I lost my weight with Jenny Craig, but years ago..my first time at changing lifestyle habits...was good old fashioned calorie counting, like my Mother did. I lost maybe 10 or 15 lbs. That was my chubby, I am-in-junior-high-I-am bored weight. LOL I am going to keep coming back here to get good points, and advice.
I am finding that good old fashioned excercise, drinking water, and cutting cals, as well as fat grams..within reason is what is working for me. I cruised a nutrition site that also gave me the veg, and fruit exchanges that we should eat per day. Hey, with all this guidance, I can do it. I can do it for life. By the way, to the lady who started this...I like bellydance and have red hair. How cool!! Take care, and thanks for starting this WAY cool thread. Marie:tread: |
Hi Marie,
Welcome! ;) |
Marie ~
We're a great, support group. You'll find the posts come in waves, several all at once and then we're quiet awhile, but the group is having a growth spurt. |
Hi Ladies,
This has been a good week for me. I have been eating better trying to do my 6 small meals a day and have been working out more. I just feel better even though the weight isn't leaving yet. I did weigh and was down 2lbs that I had just seen pop up so I am taking that as water weight. I really am not concerned anymore with weight as close as I am to my goal as I am my measurements. I do weight training and I know that can put weight on. I want a tone shaply body...who cares what the scales says right? I will weight and want to see a certain number but I know what matters is the measurements. I have about 18 lbs to get to my goal weight and 2 pants sizes. I am in a 10 now and I know if I tone up and drop about 15lbs I could get into 8's easy... Not bad coming from a size 18-20 back in June of 2003. I was looking at my old charts, still have them. I have lost close to 70 lbs and 10 inches in my chest, 10 inches from my hips and tummy and about 4" from my upper arms and legs... Didn't have much to loose there. I hold my weight in the middle! That was a good motovator to look back and see where I came from. So see how close I am to my goal feels good. Hope you are all moving and eating right. Have a good weekend. Remeber with the holidays coming up we need to work hard to get off some extra lbs before the holiday food gets a hold of us.... Also so we can look great in our dresses at the holiday parties....! Amie |
Hey Ladies I want to join this group, Im new to calorie counting only done it 2 weeks and then I do a strict diet for one week then calorie counting again etc. Im gonna be counting calories again on monday. I really like the counting calories I can eat what I want if I want and dont have to feel bad just so long as I stay in my range and if I go to high I wont let my self not workout till I burn those calories. I eat about 1400-1500 calories a day and then exercise 400-500 off a day. The calorie counting seems to be a slow process but Im so happy to not gain when eating great foods;) Thats why I add in my strict diet every 3rd week. The inches drop though with calorie counting. I will tell you more about myself on Monday.
|
Amie, so glad to hear from you.
Lockergirl, will look forward to hearing more. I myself am doing lousy. My husband's having dinner at 2:15 which is such a wierd time. I have to either make it a mealtime for myself or NOT EAT which is so hard when preparing. I sympathize with the moms out there. Also, I'm into the sweets, and not getting hungry for meals. Well, I never did the hungry horribles when following a plan, but I still should be emptier. Sorry that's so negative, but I feel I should be honest - the weight chart tells all. |
Morning everyone! :coffee:
I spent part of the morning making a spreadsheet for the next few days-I am basically letting Saber make his own sleeping/eating schedule-but I am going to use the spreadsheet to help me realize exactly what that is. I got the idea last night because I started noticing that he gets up to eat around midnight-12:30am each night the past few nights...and he gets up to nurse pretty much from 4am-5:30am each morning as well-among the million other feeds/naps he does-so I thought a spreadsheet over a few days time would help me to see other patterns emerging. For some reason-those two instances were stuck in my head, and I thought maybe I would look into his habits further. I think it will really help me to plan may day/exercise/etc. if I have an idea of what to expect from him. He did drift off this morning for a bit after I took Jasmine to school-so I had time to squeeze in a 20 minute strength training session. I am hoping this afternoon to do another small workout as well. My eating is so-so...I am trying to do better in spite of starving constantly due to the nursing. I eat when I am hungry definitely-but I am trying my best to make healthy choices. Not easy when I have to often choose something really fast, or something I can prepare/eat with ONE HAND while he is in the other. I have had DH to start keeping protein bars, pieces of fruit, and other easy things within my reach. :D Last night I finally got to color my roots (grays showing). It had been about 8 weeks since it had been done-a couple weeks before Saber was born-and it looked AWFUL. DH took the baby last night and told me to go do my hair. :D I was so happy-it did wonders for my self esteem. I am a "gray-free" redhead again. Well, I better get Raiden ready and off to school. (afternoon kindergarten) I will check back in here in a bit. |
Good evening all! I did really well for three days, but today has been a little bad, but tomorrow is a new day. I am fighting two addictions right now, Food and smoking. I have been ok with the smoking, but lately I have been bumming from my brother. He usually comes over on Sunday, and I got really upset that he did not come over today-actually thought about going to the store to pick up a pack. I made myself stay on the couch and watch a show, it helped, but the craving is still there. I know this is off subject, but boy is it rough fighting two, and each fed the other, when I smoked I didn't eat as much, and when I was not smoking food was my comfort. I guess I need to just find something to do with my hands...I am feeling a little better as I type this, so I guess I will win tonight!!!
No gym for the last week and a half. :( DD2 got sick at the end of the week (UTI-so she needed help in the bathroom) then I got some nasty upper respiratory thing, and could barely breathe. I am feeling better now, just a little stuffy still, but the meds are helping that. SO I am looking forward to gettting there tomorrow. I hope I didn't lose any ground, but will just start over and keep plugging along. On a side note...DH has passed the first step to being a firefighter. He passed the physical test this morning he did the timed course in 3min 53 sec. The pass/fail time was 4min 28sec. I am so proud of him. Things have been really rough at work for him, so this was a good shot in the arm, KNowing that there is something else he can do. It will mean a pay cut on our end, but if it makes him happier, we will fill in the shortfall the best we can. Hope everyone had a great weekend!! |
