I like Tuna (a 3oz can mixed with 1-2 tsp of fat free mayo) on half of a Sara Lee Bagel and top it with a Kraft 2% sharp cheddar cheese slice. On the side I have Mini Rice Cakes that are Cheddar flavored. The whole thing is less than 300 calories.
Jman, I'm as guilty as you at diggin' an easy cheese sandwich. I'm curious what kind of bread you eat that's 100 calories per slice? You could lower the cals on that much easier by using Healthy Lite (I think that's what it's called) at 35 calories per slice, add one of those soup-at-hand deals and get a bit more to the meal ;) Then again, if it works for ya....kudos for easy! :D |
There are a lot of low calorie breads out there for 35-40 calories a slice, but there are a lot of HEALTHIER breads out there (100% whole grain, Health Nut bread (has flax seed, etc. in it as well) and other less processed breads...) that usually average around 80-120 calories a slice.
Calorie wise the diet ones are the bargain, but nutrition wise and TASTE wise, I usually prefer the healthier ones myself as well. :) It is like choosing between Wonder, and a freshly baked piece of bread from Panera. :D |
I had never had anything from Panera until DH brought home a few bagel that a drug rep had dropped by his office. Oh my goodness! It was the apple cinnamon swirl one....oh, I just drool thinkin' about it.
I guess you're right about the taste/nutrition thing but for a easy lunch cheese sandwich I'm gonna go with the low cal and save the higher calorie better tasting ones for when I can pay closer attention and enjoy it more. ;) |

And I agree that Panera is pretty amazing. Although, the past few times I've been there, I ordered the whole-wheat baguette with my meal, and they were out :dizzy: I'm in LOVE with their Asian sesame chicken salad (that may not be the exact name, but it's something like that)--even with everything on it, it's very low-cal, plus I often don't eat many of the little wontons they put on it. Some of their sandwiches can get pretty high in fat/calories, butI usually like to do the "you pick 2" and get half a sandwich, half a salad (I'm not a huge soup fan--has to be either tomato or broccoli cheddar if I'm in the mood). And they have all of their nutritional info on their website, which is extremely helpful to me :) And they're located right next to our favorite movie theater, which is also extremely helpful to me ;) |
Thanks for your awesome tips. I really do need to make my lunch more often - especially because I do have a sensitivity to salt. It makes me swell up like crazy.
I wish we had a Panera in the city where I live but we don't even though it is a pretty big city. I always eat there when we go to Houston. |
My favorite lunch is a corn tortilla toasted with 1/4 cup fat-free refried beans, 1 oz shredded Mexican cheese, 1 plum tomato sliced and shredded romaine.

I have been eating healthy choice, lean cuisine frozen dinners. I really don't like to prepare lunch. It is easy to get in the morning.

I usually have a ham and cheese on Sara Lee Delightful Wheat bread or a Weight Watchers Smart Ones meal. Today I had a salad and a ham and cheese sandwich.
