Can anyone recommend

  • Can anyone recommend a good breakfast cereal with not too many calories per serving. I too am doing the calorie counting diet. I just wanted to switch up my breakfast meals. I normally eat oatmeal but i know that i need a little more dairy in my daily diet. I also read somewhere that 2% milk is good for you. fat free milk. eeewww gross. so please recommend any cereals.

I love raisin brand, and vanilla almond by special K, and frosted mini wheats.!

    Thanks ladies
  • My favorite is Barbara's GrainShop. It's not very sweet, but I'm a carb:fiber watcher and it has a lot of fiber for the amount of carbs you get.

    I also like Weetabix.
  • I like All-Bran extra fiber. 1 serving is 1/3 cup, has 50 calories and 14g of fiber. I tend ot have 1 cup, so it's 150 calories and 42 grams of fiber. I add some berries on top to make it taste better. It stays with me over really well. I slowly worked up to 1 cup. I added the 1/3 cup to 1/2 of my regular cereal for a couple weeks until I got used to the added fiber. Could cause embarrassing incidents if you're not careful.

  • I bought Nature's Path organic granola with oatmeal, flaxseed and pumpkin seeds. 1/2 cup is a serving and it really fills me up.

I also add milk to my oatmeal -- or I pour in some of an 8 oz glass and drink the rest.
  • Another vote for Weetabix here. I also like Kellogg's Corn Flakes. I love cereal too!
  • If you like Frosted Mini-Wheats, try the Kashi Autumn Wheat. Very tasty, holds up well in milk, naturally sweet so it needs no additional sugar or sweetener.

190 cal per cup, 6 grams fiber, 5 grams protein, excellent taste!

As far as milk, I been drinking 1% milk for years and found it just soooooo bland (and we won't even talk about skim). I recently decided it was a worthy tradeoff FOR ME to make the switch back up to 2%. Yes, it has more a *touch* fat and calories, but it is soooooo much more palatable. Frankly, I avoided milk when I forced myself to do 1%. Now I enjoy it. So the extra fat and calories is worth it because I actually drink the stuff!

My family likes it much better, too.
  • As mentioned, you could use milk instead of water to make your oatmeal. It makes it a bit more creamy, and much yummier, IMO

I usually just eat granola cereals--I LOVE the lavor and the crunch. I go for the ones with as little sugar aspossible, but they still tend to be high in calories because many of them also incorporate almonds (the one I have now actually has bananas and almonds), which are great for you but high in calories. I don't worry about the calories, though...I know I can have a very filling low-cal lunch (lately, it's been chicken and veggies frozen meals from SmartOnes...either 220 or 240 calories per meal depending on flavor), so I'd rather start my day off with what makes me happy

Another milk-full breakfast I like is smoothies. I just use 2 small (or 1.5 large) bananas, about 1-2 T natural peanut butter, a splash of vanilla, ice, and skim milk. Blend it all together in my Magic Bullet cup and I've got protein, 2 fruits, and dairy to get me started
  • Quaker Corn Bran Squares are pretty good. It reminds me of corn pops but without all the sugar. 1 cup is 120 calories.
