OMG IT actually works!

I started using FitDay Pc about two weeks ago. I found my BMR and tried to stay around that many calories. I began eating lots of fruits and veggies and good fats, whole grains, etc. I started walking 30 minutes a day. Three things happened after that. I lost 8 pounds...YAY! I found that I averaged....without even trying... the guideline of eating 20% protein, 50% carbs, and 30% fat. And, I lowered my fasting blood sugar from 140 to 105! I wasn't trying to do anything but eat healthier. I had given up on diets, I had given up on weight loss. I just wanted to prevent having a heart attack or diabetes. I am not sure if the weight loss will continue and I don't even care. I eat the healthiest foods I can and move everyday. I can't wait to see where it takes me. I just was so excited to see my blood sugar readings that I had to share this news with everyone I can. You have no idea how worth it is to me to know that I CAN control my health by what I put in my mouth and do with my body on a daily basis. I have control and I am excited about this for the very first time in my life. No more fads, no more starving. Only clean healthy foods and moving evey day. Thanks for listening!!

That's awesome! It's amazing what being good to your body will do, huh? :D Sounds like you are right on track!

Oh, I actually hooted out loud when I read the title of your post! I cannot tell you how heartily I believe in calorie counting! I love it for soooo many reasons and you are another pricelessly important one!

Christina7806 ... you might be my favourite person of the day! Don't be surprised if I bump up this thread several times!

What a great post, Christina! Way to go! :carrot:

I'm having success with calorie counting too. With fitday, it's so easy to see how different foods affect my numbers. I used to think I had a rudimentary understanding of nutrition, but as it turns out, I was making some pretty lousy choices. No wonder my weight kept creeping up! I bet I've learned more about food and the body in the past month than the past 30 years. My original goals were to start setting a healthy example for my family and lose 20 pounds ... but now I'm hopeful that the knowledge I'm gaining through calorie counting and this site could lead to a long-term difference in my family's health.

Christina your attitude is refreshing and an inspiration :D

I keep the calorie-counting faith like Susan, but sometimes I think my perspective could use a little tune-up. Thank you for the reminder of why we are all really doing this :cp:

Thanks so much for the positive words. It means more than you'll ever know. I wish all of you great success and know that you all have my support!

Congrats! I too have found that FitDay PC was THE BEST calorie counter/activity tracker out there. And finally to see that without fancy diets, I was naturally keeping within a healthy balance for my cals/carbs/protein.

It's always refreshing to see that one more person has gone this route. That's exactly what I do. I love fitday, have used it for 19 months now and probably will for the rest of my life. Because I've faced the fact that I'll have to watch calories the rest of my life in order to prevent putting back on all the weight I've lost.

I'm ready :spin:

Congratulations!! I think you've done a fantastic job with improving your health!! (Weight loss is almost a side effect, eh?) I dropped my cholesterol by 114 points in the month of January (healthy eating and using Vytorin).

Isn't it amazingly SIMPLE to count calories? Especially if you have a good system for logging calories, exercise, and weightloss. (I use BalanceLog on my PC and PDA.)

Keep up the good work!!

Kimberly

I also agree with counting calories. I mean, it's a scientific formula, you know!!! Some of these popular diets out there are just insane, insane I tell you. Counting calories and making better food choices is the best plan for me, I think, plus there are no restrictions. I will allow myself to have fattening foods but I'll eat a small portion, and I won't eat it everyday. This way it prevents cravings. I am however trying to cut out refined carbs (though I won't completely restrict them 'cause then I'll just want them more!).

This is very encouraging.........Thank you for sharing that and best of luck!!!
