Fitday, do you add sleep???

  • I've been using fitday for a few months now and one thing I'm confused about is are you supposed to add sleep under activities? I've been putting in my sleep everyday along with my exercise. Is this correct?
  • I think it's a good idea, especially if you are closely tracking everything else as well. I know that there are choices for about everything on there! I'm too lazy and generally only put in my food and specific exercises. It would be cool to see the whole picture like I'm sure you do, but like I said- I'm too lazy to do all that input!
  • I don't
I only put in specific activities that exceed my defaults.

E.g. when I click on the "home" link, right below my age is my "lifestyle level" which already presumes that I'm active at a certain level most days. I'm a computer programmer, so I chose "Seated work". If I do an hour of yoga I'll note that, or anything else that would increase my activity for the day. If I took an hour long nap in the afternoon, that would decrease my activity, so I'll put that in as an hour of sleep.

It seems to already presume I'm sleeping every day, because seated work seems about right for my maintenance calories. If I tracked everything I did every day (all 24 hours) then I'd put in sleep.

  • I fiddled with mine for a couple of days, trying to simplify things. I put in bedridden and then added every little thing I did. I came up with a palatable number which was pretty near seated work. So I leave it there and only add exercise, work or strenuous activity that is out of the norm.
    Did that make sense?
  • Ok so I should probably switch to seated work and not put in my 9 hours of sleep everyday?
  • I suppose. What kind of a number does that give you?
  • When I put in seated work and no sleep it's telling me like 3000 calories a day with my exercise put in. I know that has to be wrong.

Maybe I should be putting my sleep in. I wish there was a fitday faq!
  • Sure, put your sleep in and we'll see what that's like.
How long has it taken you to lose all that weight? That may be another clue.
