There's a funny story in the intro about the Society holding a conference and dinner for supporters and they served everyone a plate with the recommended 3 ounces of meat portion on it and then served 3 accompanying dishes (2 veg, 1 grain). Instead of serving spoons, they provided measuring cups--so people would have a REAL sense of what it was they were recommending.
The authors give a very realistic philosophy to food, nutrition, health and eating that I find very appealing (as well as some beautiful food photos) and while they note that the portion sizes may seem small to many Americans (probably not to us since we've been measuring our rice already
), they also indicate that some people will eat more than 1 serving of certain things depending on activity level, weight, etc. I.e., they're not presenting a "YOU MUST DO...." approach. There are 9 amazon reviews so far and it's a 5-star book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/052...lance&n=283155
