Calories per pound
 
Hello all. New here. I've been cutting/counting/changing my calories for almost 2 weeks. I range anywhere from 1200-1500/day. In addition to cutting calories I'm getting off my duff and moving everyday, which I've been able to get up to 30 minutes this week from 10-15 minutes last week. Overall, it's going well - I've dropped 5 pounds. I've had some difficulty with finding myself drained both physically and emotionally, however, I know it's a matter of what I'm eating. The good news is today is grocery day and I have lots of veggies on the list, which is what my diet has been lacking. :p Eating my veggies is my BIGGEST challenge. :p

Anyway, on with what I'm here to ask. I've read that for every 3500 calories burned is about a pound lost. Is anyone keeping track of this and if so, is it holding true for you? I thought it might be a useful piece of info to track just in case my progress isn't satisfactory. Maybe not?

Weeelllll .... there are just so many variables involved .... it might be a detail that drives you nuts. :crazy:

That is the science. One pound is lost for every 3500 calories of deficit.
However, you've got water and salt and hormones ....it's very difficult to figure the amount of calories an individual uses (for certain) doing any particular exercise .... and so on.

If you like the details, I sure do, you soon see patterns.



OK ... I'm obsessive/compulsive and detaily enough to have gone to fitday to check. According to fitday I should have lost 4 pounds in the last month and I've lost 6. :dunno:

Thanks for the response. I don't mind the details at all. I've been accused on more than one occassion of being overly analytical....I smell a spreadsheet around the corner :lol:

I wouldn't fuss so much. If you are losing, and feeling better, then just go with the flow. :lol:

You must also remember not to fall victim to the scale, because if you are exercising a lot, you might lose inches and your body will look better as well-but the scale may not show that progress.

Thanks for the advice, aphil. :)

I know I'm going to need little reminders like that to make this a total lifestyle change and not just a mission to lose weight. That's why I've made it a habit to pop in here and read a bit...lots of inspiration here. :D
