myfitnesspal: Do I weigh my chicken raw or cooked? HELP!
I was reading a random fitness article and it said that you could be tracking your calories wrong if you weigh the chicken cooked. Now I am confused. I don't want to put raw chicken on my beautiful scale :( But more importantly, I don't want to continue miscalculating my calories.
Thank you. |
weigh the chicken in a dish. put the dish on the scale and then tare it or put to zero then add the chicken to see the weight

Yeah I know, but do I weigh it when it's raw or when it's cooked?

I've had that same question--I like to weigh my chicken cooked. MFP does not always specify whether the macros are for cooked or raw chicken. Here is a good database, USDA, for all kinds of chicken. (You can look up any food here).
https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/...dard+Reference Once you find your cut of chicken, cooked, you can search MFP to find chicken that has the same nutritional profile. it takes a little digging. I use boneless skinless chicken breast. Cooked, 1 oz has 43 calories, 9g protein. 1 g fat. With a different cut, or with skin or bone in, it will be somewhat different. |
On MFP put in grilled chicken and it will give you the ounces to put in, it is the cooked/grilled ounces

Thank you so much for your help! :)
