Counting calories but gaining :(

  • Hello Fellow Calorie Counters!

I was hoping to get some takes on a new problem, I am a long time calorie counter but new to 3FC. I have always had really good luck counting calories, it is just a system that makes sense to me. am now over 35 and I am struggling more than I used to. Weight loss is slow this time around but new this week I am coming in under 1350 cals a day and GAINING weight! up 2 pounds already. I am confused, I have had no big changes (no cheating no binging) have others experienced this as a normal part of their weight loss? Very discouraging
  • This can be. I would hold tight for a couple weeks. Don't make changes too quickly. This is most likely water weight. One of the things I noticed as I got older is that my water fluctuations were more dramatic and stubborn.

Also, one of the things i frequently find is that after I have dropped a bit, I will gain and it will stick around, not drop again like you would expect from water. The only thing I have been able to suss is that when I am dropping fat I tend to drop water and then the body brings it back to normal. So it's not that I am carrying excess water, its just when I am in a big burn, I am carrying a water deficit and then the body readjusts.
  • welcome to the club...3 weeks now
  • Thank you both! Sure enough, the extra pounds hung around got about a week and a half and then decided to slowly leave. I am back on track now, but what a crappy week and a half. Sending a sigh and comforting hug to anyone else experiencing this, it is not fun.
  • I wouldn't suggest it for long term use but if u stick to the 1350 AND take pyslium husk supplements which is very inexpensive, twice a day, you will see results, the pyslium husk is fiber that cleans out your system. Like I said, not for long term use because your body can get dependent on it. I use it off and on throughout the year. If you don't want to take the pill, add as much fiber to your diet through food as you can and stick with the 1350, u will see results. Great job on staying at 1350!
