Whatever you do, Do NOT buy...
Warning- this may be a trigger post for some.
DO NOT buy those "cranberry oatmeal dunkers" from Trader Joe's. They're like biscotti and they have a white icing drizzle on them...They taste EXACTLY like those iced raisin cookies that Mother's cookies used to sell-remember those?? They are delicious, and I thought I could control myself around them b/c they're 90 cal each (which isn't great, but they're fairly large and 90 cal for a dessert/snack isn't bad). The reality is that you will eat them all day long, and continue to make cups and cups of coffee to eat them with (because they're really amazing with coffee) until you are sick from sugar and caffeine!! What are some other products that you just CAN'T buy ever, ever again? Let's get the word out, people! |
Sounds like a good lesson to learn!
I just can't with tortilla chips. Ever. (Or really, any salt-y corn-y snack, but it most often takes the form of tortilla chips.) "I won't eat it all - I'll measure out one serving, husband will get around to eating the rest" - okay, and then I measure out the next serving. Then I grab a handful. Then it's not really worth measuring the rest. It may take 2-3 days to complete that cycle, but even slowed down, I'll still eat most of the bag myself. It's funny to me that my trigger food would be nowhere near the top of my list for foods to indulge in, but it is. So I try not to bring it into the house. Still need to work on not eating them if at a restaurant or party (because the same thing happens - "Oh, just a few..." becomes more than a few). But those are rare occasions, and controlling what's in the house is a much bigger deal. Come to think of it, honey-roasted peanuts got permanently banished 5+ years ago. They powered too many midterm cram sessions in college... |
Those chocolate donuts from Entainmens (sp?). The ones with the yellow inside. OMG. Put those in the fridge for an hour and they are death to me. There are so many things that I used to love snacking on and I just can't have near me anymore.
|
chocolate covered nuts. never ends well.
|
Extra thin crust pizza with pepperoni, garlic, tomatoes, and basil... I will seriously eat the entire 18-in pie... and Oreos... Dang, those oreos!!!
|
M & M's
|
I can't buy any cookie from TJ's they are all amazing! The Chocolate dunkers qrd evil!!
|
I cannot buy any type of cheesecake or Reeses Cups. I will destroy it.
|
I have several trigger foods . . .
1) Trader Joe's chocolate almond butter - Once that jar is opened, I cannot prevent myself from eating it right out of the jar. The last two times I've convinced myself that I really "can" control myself around this and quickly learned that I could not, I threw out half the jar (yes, I did this twice). That was wasteful, but I knew I would keep eating it if I didn't. 2) Utz's pretzel rods - Dipped in peanut butter, these are deadly 3) pecan pie - With major self-control, I can hold out three days before the entire pie is gone. 4) Cashews - These are one trigger food that I never buy anymore. It is so easy for me to eat 1/2 lb. of these, and that would be 1600 calories right there. I'm not one who can measure out an ounce and be satisfied. |
Cheesecake, Belgian chocolate, sugar-roasted nuts of any type...
F. |
This thread just made my stomach growl with excitement!
I'd have to say all of the above! YUM but dangerous........... |
tortilla chips! They are my kryptonite. I can eat chips and salsa all day. We have a local Mexican restaurant that makes the best chips and salsa and I could eat them until I explode.
|
Chocolate glazed donuts...Huge weakness, I can't leave them alone if they're around.
|
Nutella. I haven't had it in probably 8 years. I do have it in my house because my slim son likes it on English muffins every once in awhile. As long as I don't have any myself, I'm okay. One indulgence, though, and I know I'll empty the jar. Ugh.
|
Mini Reese Peanut butter cups. Every once in a while I try to convince myself that I can have just a few... if never ends well.
|
Peanut butter M&Ms, chewy chips ahoy, homemade french onion dip, and the cheetos that are shaped like corkscrews. Ahhhhh!
|
WHEAT THINS... Why are they so addicting? any cookies/snacks from trader joes, tortilla chips... and just sweets in general... SO DANGEROUS
|
Homemade chocolate chip cookies and cookie dough. How many times these have triggered a binge...sigh...
I need to stay far, far away from them!!! Or take out my counted portion and immediately throw the rest in the outside trash can (throwing it away in my kitchen trash can isn't good enough). Oh wait, i did go back and get the leftover cookie dough out of my outside trash can once... Now you can see why I must stay far, far away from them!!! |
Homemade spinach dip. I tell my husband every holiday that I'm not going to make it again because I will eat it until I have severe intestinal distress from all the fat... You'd think that would prevent me from eating it altogether... but it doesn't :(
Oh, and the smartfood white popcorn... It's only "smart" if you eat one serving :) |
How does popcorn in a bag become so fattening??? Can't they pop us a bag of actual low-fat popcorn?
My weaknesses-- cheesy bread/ breadsticks from pretty much anywhere-- Mr. Gattis, Pizza Hut, the freezer section at the grocery store. Tortilla chips and salsa, like many of you said, especially if they are warm and in the basket at the restaurant. I can clear out a basket of chips pronto. |
Frozen greek yogurt. It's only 100 calories a cup and tastes so good. You eat it all freaking day though!
|
TJ's Cookie Butter!!!! Evil!
|
Any kind of trail mix that contains nuts, dried fruit, and any form of chocolate. 1/4 cup is a serving? PLEASE. I could polish off a bag.
I had an officemate who was pregnant with twins and needed help gaining weight(yeah, I know) so she kept bringing it into our office. I gained 5 lbs during her pregnancy. |
Homemade soft pretzels. Not again. Homemade pizza...I can load veggies on, right?
Yep, I'm a bready. Sweet deserts have no control over me. |
cheesecake and ice cream!! They can't be in my house.
|
Peanut butter granola thins, any chips, peanuts, laughing cow queso, pollyo and babybel. Yup... Pretty much crunchy, salty, cheesy snacks.
|
- Swiss Milk Chocolate, Belgian Milk Chocolate, Snickers, Twix, Milk Chocolate products in general.
- Carrot cake, brownies, chocolate cake, cake and associated cake products in general - Cape cod kettle chips, any brand kettle chips |
I cannot keep sour cream & cheddar chips in the house, I will eat the entire bag. Also, those Reese's peanut butter eggs that only come out at Easter. Regular Reese's cups don't do it for me, but for some reason those eggs are my downfall!
|
I can not walk into Tim Hortons with money, I will buy 5 or 6 pastries. Also Trader Joes Yogurt covered raisins and pretzels.
Cookies and Chips and Dips aswell. |
In looking through my food log that I've kept over the last few years, I see a pattern of any kind of chocolate often leads to my falling off the wagon.
This time around, I'm staying away from it in all forms...sigh. |
Cadbury Creme Eggs. Dear word, they are addicting... and it's THAT time of year, again. Joy.
|
Omg anything cheesy... I can eat a block of pepper jack cheese with crackers in one sitting (seriously...) and pretzels M&Ms.
|
Chips and salsa at the local mexican place.
Can. Never. Eat. Just. One. So I end up glaring at the hubby while he partakes and I starve LOL |
Brie cheese, pesto & crunchy baguette slices....sigh....
|
A bagel with cream cheese seems to be a trigger food for me. It has to be a NY style bagel from a deli though. I can pass up Lender's no problem, ha.
I have this odd thing where I know I am on my diet if I am eating chocolate daily (because I portion it out to 1 serving) and I know I've lost track if I am eating bagels daily (we have free bagels at work). |
Snacks, period. I just, as a rule, don't snack unless I skip a meal. That's funny for someone that used to run a snack blog!
But, in seriousness, I take the OA approach to those foods now: I am powerless over them. I "can't eat just one". I "don't eat them." I truly am addicted to sugar. Give me something sweet, and it will be gone in no time. (Someone did get me SF Valentine's chocolates though, and I did just finish those off. Took me 2 weeks, but it happened. Then again, those have their own "anti-binge" system built in.) I do bake occasionally, but only as a special treat. At Easter, for instance, I'm planning on making a no sugar added carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. It's a little reward for making it through Lent! The only exception to this is soda. I can take it or leave it. But no sugar, period, or I'll start breaking out AND craving more! |
Oh man. Chips, definitely. I'll only buy the small bags and share them with DH.
thing's I can't make in bulk-pizza, pasta, rice. If there are leftovers I WILL eat them. Oh and cookies. |
