Does fat/protein/carbs factor into your Calorie Counting?
Hey there,
For those of you who have had great success with Calorie Counting, I was wondering if you simply count calories or if you also keep track of fat/protein/carbs? I use MyFitPlan and it keeps track of that for me but I don't generally pay attention to anything besides the calories and I haven't seen much difference. Has anyone seen a major difference? Thanks! |
Many people report that macronutrient composition makes a major difference in their hunger levels and general well-being, but I haven't found that to be the case. I don't pay attention to macronutrients except in the loosest way (i.e., making sure I have at least SOME protein on any given day).

i have a set daily limit for my macronutrients as well as calories but since this is the only way ive been doing it im not sure if it makes a difference but i do know it makes me more aware of wanting to make healthier choices for my calorie intake.

I do not specifically count or limit them.
I do try to recognize the effects on my body of eating certain things though. For example, eating a large amount of carbohydrates and/or sugar increases my hunger. Things high in sodium (like Chinese food) really add to water weight for me. |
MyFitnessPal does something similar. I eat a lot of fruit so it says I'm always way over on sugar.. but it hasn't hurt my weight loss yet. I do glance at my sodium levels every once in a while and drink a bit more water to compensate if necessary. In general, though, I only focus on caloric intake.

I use the lose it app and track my nutrients along with my calories. I try to stay higher than 20% with my protein. My ultimate goal is 30%, but I have only been able to reach that by supplementing with protein powder and eating large amounts of chicken. I can't seem to get my caleries under 1500 AND get my protein to 30%.

I keep my calories around 1200-1400 and if I eat high carbs I cannot stay under 1600, plus I feel hungry all the time. Now I eat full fat and more protein with tons of veggies and I am not hungry at all, sometimes I hardly make it to 1200.
Yes, a calorie is a calorie but 100 calories worth of chicken will make me feel way fuller than a 100 calorie cake ;) |
I track my calories on FitDay. I am eating "clean", including lots of fruit and veggies and almost no grains. Without any effort on my part, FitDay says that most days I am eating about 50% carbs, 25% each of protein and fat.
Since I started dieting in June I have had maybe two sliced of bread, a half piece at a time. I have had some pasta and some animal crackers and I find that these items make me very hungry, so I try not to indulge. |
I use an app called MyNetDiary. Its awesome. Well my main focus is calories, I do keep an eye on my protein/fat/carb count. I will glance at it throughout the day to give me an idea on if I should eat something that has more protein in it or whatnot. However, at the end of the day, it's calories that are my main goal.

Yes, when I was tracking, I used MyPyramid.gov which doesn't exist anymore (replaced my MyPlate) and I watched Sat Fat and Fiber, which interestingly enough automatically kept the carbs/fats/protein ratios in recommended range.

I don't specifically track nutrient intake, but I do try to make sure I eat a lot of fiber and keep my sodium intake down. I don't pat attention to protein in terms of tracking it because I eat a lot of protein. And I don't really watch carbs because I don't eat a lot of processed carbs. I mainly eat carbs from veggies. I don't really pay attention to fat either. |
I have set guidelines, but I don't follow them exactly. Today I ate mostly carbs and I noticed a major difference in my energy levels.

I actually pay far more attention to my carb/protein/fat intake than I do calories. Specifically my ratio's. I use Perfect Diet Tracker because it has a UK food database.
