Too low calories. Need to increase. Help please!

  • Hi there fellow calorie counters!!
I am currently eating 1200 calories a day and currently that is a struggle but I do it. I really no longer have an appetite. I have lost about 15 or 16 pounds doing this. I work out and burn between 400 - 700 calories a day. I know my calories are probably low considering my weight (267) and height (5'5).

What would you suggest? I thought about increasing to 1600-1700 and still not add my workout calories into my daily count.

I have only been eating the 1200 calories for a month. Will that effect my body when I increase calories (like if I had done it for 6 months)??

I want to lose weight but I don't want to work against my body. I appreciate any suggestions/support that you can offer! I will check in later, off to workout of course!!
  • You may hit a plateau. I find it hard sometimes getting all my calories in as well. I think you should eat more fruits and vegatables that always works and add nuts. Banaba are very high in calories 100 calories for one banana. That will up your calorie intake so fast. When I first started dieting I ate to many nuts and that stalled my weight lost. Nuts have lots of calories and are good fats. They are also high in calcium which helps slim your waist and lower your weight.. Just be careful on your portions when iit comes to nuts
  • well you could add in a protein drink ... if you can stomach them (I don't really like them... but some people do.)
  • I'm doing the exact same thing... I'm 254, 5'5 and eat around 12-1400 calories per day. I do 200 - 600 calories of workout. I've been doing this for over a month now and I haven't been hungry. I had no intention of changing this habit, but reading this makes me wonder...... should i? why is this too few? I thought if I wasn't hungry... and I'm actually eating quite a bit every day.... and I feel great... then it should be fine, right?
  • Yup that's too low. I was just mentioning in another thread that I plateaued and it turned out I wasn't eating enough calories to match the amount of exercise I was doing and because my body wasn't getting enough calories, it was holding onto weight. I weigh 280 and I eat 2200-2300 calories a day and do the treadmill 3 times a week as well as walk my dogs daily and I lose an average of 1-2 pounds a week
