Chinese takeout options

Hi everyone!

So...groan...my hubs suggested Chinese takeout tonight. Anyone have suggestions on healthy choices? I'm thinking miso soup and the tofu with stir fried veggies. What do you think? Alternatives?

Thanks!

I want to know about this too, the in-laws love chinese food and we often get it at family events.

Oh gosh, Yum!! :hungry:

The Chinese restaurant near my home serves a chicken or beef and broccoli dish (without rice) and it's probably their lowest calorie entree. Maybe you can find something similar. If not, mail me half your meal and I'll take care of some calories for ya! :D

Sounds perfect to me.

That sounds really good actually.

I've noticed that a lot of Chinese restaurants have a "Diet" menu. Look at the menu and see if there is anything there that appeals to you :)

Otherwise can you tell your husband you don't want Chinese? My fiance suggested Pizza Hut tonight and I said no, so we're going to go somewhere else.

Another idea- make your own? I love to cook and make stuff so I make my own lo mein noodles, stir-fry rice, crab rangoon and veggie egg rolls- they all taste just like takeout, just somewhat healthier (and cheaper too, depending on your local takeout deals.)

But if you're not in the mood to make anything then I think your choices are quite good and yummy.

They always have a diet menu that consists of plain steamed protein and veggies in different combinations. The sauce comes on the side so you can decide how much to use.

I always go with beef and broccoli or a chop suey dish.

I always get STEAMED chinese veggies with STEAMED chicken. The take out place I order from said they could steam really anything on the menu that isn't breaded and they send you sauce on the side. Maybe you can see if that is an option for you?

I love the steamed chicken and broccoli. The sauce comes on the side so you can control how much. Unsure of exact calorie count but definitely less than regular. :)

I usually go with steamed veggies and shrimp. The veggies are crisp-tender and they need to be cut into manageable pieces. I love the flavors and I think the time it takes to cut the broccoli, etc helps me slow down and enjoy the flavors rather than woofing down all those bite sized sauce covered pieces.

Make your own!! The MSG in even the "Diet" stuff would = binge city, for me!

Find a "No MSG" restaurant if you can and focus on getting something with the sauce on the side so you can control how much you add.

The takeout restaurants around here do steamed "no salt, no sugar" dishes consisting of a protein and veggies. Those are the ones that have the sauce on the side, which you can use or make your own.

I don't know if that's nationwide, but in CT I've never seen a takeout Chinese restaurant without those "diet" dishes.

I read even if it says "NO MSG" there sometimes really is MSG in it... that's how those plain steamed vegetables taste so good. If it's just once in awhile it's probably ok - if it's a weekly thing I would try making my own.
