I <3 Diet Coke. I was totally addicted before January. Now I drink one every few days. I don't think I will every quit drinking it completely, but I don't think it is healthy to drink as much as I use to if that makes sense.

I drink Diet Dr Pepper or Diet Mug Root Beer a couple times a week. I haven't noticed any difference in weight or my hunger on days or after the days I drink diet soda. Of course, it's in addition to my three liters of water a day.

I agree whole heatedly with mamasita and isabunny.

I teach 10 year olds and they wanted to do an experiment about diet drinks. They used egg shells, because the calcium component is similar to teeth. They soaked a number of egg shells in various drinks (coke, diet coke, orange juice, water, coffee, etc) and left them over night.
When we returned to school the next morning, the eggshell in the coke had started to disolve around the edge, but the one in the diet coke HAD COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!! So - the research began. Conclusion - the artificial sweeteners in the diet drinks are worse for your health and harsher on your teeth than the naturally occurring sugars in the normal drinks

Sure - it was a bunch ten year olds, not official scientific research, but I think there is something in it.

Sorry this is a bit of a negative post, but I think it really reinforces that they should be drunk in moderation and definitely followed by brushing your teeth.

I have decided that 'real coke' makes me gain weight and diet coke is bad for me. I went cold turkey and haven't touched a soda for about two years now.

I look back now and think of all the trouble I have saved my body. (it's about the only thing I've done to be nice to my body mind you!!)

Thanks so much for all the responses!!

@Buzzy bee - I remember doing that too a looong time ago when I was in elementary school, but not with diet coke ofcourse. Thats good to know!

I've started breaking out (on my face), and I wonder if its to do with the diet coke, because I only started having it recently and have been breaking out since. Has anyone had any experience with this? (I'm 22 and have hormonal issues, so that could be part of it too).
