When did people notice your loss?
Just curious to know when people noticed you lost weight. Was it after you lost 10lbs., 15lbs., or 20lbs?
I've lost 6 pounds and my hubby can't even tell :( |

My husbands been very supportive of my journey, but He only started to notice after about 12 pounds down. Don't give up... This is your journey!!! Chris Insulin dependent diabetic since 2011 |
I am 11.5 pounds down and no one has noticed, so don't feel bad. I have a goal of 50 pounds total, so I know that compliments will start coming sooner or later.

My husband is down by 94lbs and nobody can tell. They all think I've lost more than him, yet he's lost nearly double what I have lost. It's because he has gone from morbidly obese...to still morbidly obese. Whereas I've gone from obese to normal. So the change is more pronounced for me than it is for him.
|
The heavier you are, the harder it is to see the difference. For me, it was about twenty pounds before others could see much of a change. As I continue to drop, I do think it's becoming easier to tell just by sight.
And sometimes, of course, you lose weight in odd places at first. My face, hands, feet, and arms have all dropped weight...I'm an apple shape though and my torso has hardly changed. |
Your hubby sees you every day so it's hard for him to notice a change. It took my hubby a very long time to see any difference in me....but other people seemed to notice after I lost about 10% of the body weight. The most important thing though is what YOU notice and not just on your clothes and body but in how good you feel.

I'm at a 14.2 lb. total loss as of my last weigh in this past Friday. I was starting to wonder when people would start noticing and that was the day my husband said he could notice a difference in my face. I couldn't notice a difference in the mirror but I can see the difference in a photo for sure.

For me, it was when I lost 25 pounds and got some new pants that fit me properly! That's really, really important!
|
The first time, it was around 25lb. I had a waist! I hope it's the same this time lol. I still HAVE a waist, but my hips are massive.
|
Yes, like others say.. your husband sees you every day, so it's hard to notice any change. some people said something about 10-15 lbs to me (maybe they were being nice) but after 25 lbs, people were really noticing and making comments.
|
It took about 30lbs for people to notice any weight loss - that and buying some new clothes in smaller sizes.
|
I've lost 20 pounds and my husband has not noticed. That is because he sees me every single day so he can't tell. I've only just been able to start noticing myself so I can't expect to much lol!
Every single day I hear from my parents "Omg, your a little skinny-mini" and I want to hit them. I know its mean, but I am really not that skinny, it does not need to been said EVERY SINGLE DAY and they even said that when I was gaining weight. I think they think it makes me feel good, but it makes me feel even worse when I really have not lost in a few weeks or something! One of my other friends said the other day "omg have you lost weight", but she was just fishing for compliments on her weight loss since the day before she messaged me telling me she had lost 5 pounds. When she asked if I had lost weight, she totally said it in the way that wanted me to respond with "Wow, your the one who looks like you've lost weight!". |
Maybe I was expecting too much of him lol..but I'm looking forward to the day that people notice. Then it will really feel like it payed off!
|
It took about 15-25 lbs before people started saying something about it. I can't remember who was the first to say something about it, either one of my girlfriends or my dh. It can be hard to tell sometimes. I think people know something is different, just not exactly what it is. About the time drop a size or two, it becomes really evident.
|
when my pants were stopping.
literally. when you lose, and buy proper fitting clothes, people just assume you've always had these clothes and that's how they always fit. i didn't start buying new clothes until i lost about the first 60 or so lbs. it was good times. |
I went from 181 to 171 this past month and my boyfriend said "You definitely look smaller than a month ago!" :)
Someone on 3FC made a comparison re: losing weight and a roll of paper towels...if you have a big, thick roll of paper towels, and you take 10 or so sheets off - no one really notices...but the more and more sheets you take off, the more noticiable it is. |
I've lost 17lbs total and no one has noticed, or if they have noticed, they haven't said anything. I notice though, my pants are looser!
When you're bigger (like me!) it takes longer for weight loss to be noticeable. The last time I lost a significant amount of weight it was around 20-25lbs before people noticed. I saw something online once that said it'll take 4 weeks for you to notice a change in your body and 12 weeks for others to notice. Everyone is different, but it's something to keep in mind! |
I've lost about 8 pounds and no one has noticed yet - I can't even see it! I am starting to go to the gym to gain more muscle and I think once my body shape starts changing as well it will be more noticeable. Let's hope, anyway!
|
Also take into account that people who see you everyday may take longer to notice a loss, know what I mean?
|
I'm down about 15 lbs and I can only tell because my work pants are so loose they fall off :p I don't foresee anyone else noticing for some time as I have a ton to lose but that's ok, as long as I feel the difference I feel accomplished!
|
It was @ 50 lbs that anyone even mentioned my weight loss. My kids STILL haven't mentioned it. They had a coach lose 40 lbs and they constantly talked about how much he had lost but I had lost the same and they didn't know..lol
My husband has certainly noticed and a lot of the teachers and friends I see on occasion always mention my weight loss when they see me these days. |
i started the diet on march 1st, weighing 230lbs. on monday, i weighed 220.25.
yesterday, my daughter's father tried to grab my love handles but couldn't - his hands kept skidding off because there was nothing to grab. now, if only this flipping "apron" and those back boobs would disappear as quickly! |
I mentioned that my kids hadn't noticed--I picked up my kids from school and we hit Sonic happy hour. My 14 year old saw my drivers license by chance and said "Mom! you don't look like that at all now! your face isn't that fat!"
Awww! |
re:
No one except for my husband has said anything yet.
I'm actually kind of pleased with that. The minute my mother in law figures out I've lost weight and am still trying to, the analysis of my food intake will begin! |
smile and nod, smile and nod.
and then put ex-lax in her death by chocolate. |
I've lost 18 lbs and no one can even tell I lost weight. To be honest i think I look the same too. All i know is I have gone down a size in clothes so now I can wear more stuff! YaY! who know when that *magic* number comes but it is still exciting to see improvement somewhere. good luck!
|
I've heard it said it takes 4 weeks for you to notice (ha! I am at five weeks, and don't notice...) 8 weeks for your friends and family, 12 for acquaintances. Of course, it really depends on your size... And how oblivious your friends are! (My best friend is a thirty year old man, and when I told him I had gained 75 lbs in the last eighteen months he was shocked **eyeroll**
|
In the past, it was when I lost enough to buy new, more fitted clothes in a smaller size. I think around 10-15lbs. This time, I've only lost 1lb, so even I've barely noticed. (Hey, at least I didn't regain all the way to my high weight!) I expect it to be 10-15lbs this time too.
It does depend on how much extra weight you have, and how tall you are. Dh is 6' and only ever slightly overweight, but he has to lose 20lbs for anyone to notice. |
20 lbs was when they really noticed that I was slimmer
|
25 pounds, when I stopped wearing saggy pants to work and starting wearing ones that fit.
|
I just posted something similar in the 100lb club!
I have lost 20lbs and no one has noticed either. It will be a great NSV when someone does notice! I also wonder if maybepeople might not want to say they notice in case they are wrong. Don't want to hurt my feelings.... |
