Why Does My Weight Bounce?

I'm baffled by my body sometimes. A week ago, I stepped on my scales and hit a new low weight (202.4). Then, because clearly someone  was out to get me, I steadily gained a pound a day for the past five...5...FIVE days. What the heck? I went over my calorie goal most of those days, but only by about 200-300 calories, which should still be way under my maintenance needs. (I do 1200-1300 per day usually because I'm pretty sedentary.)

Thankfully, I stepped on the scale today and three pounds had miraculously vanished, but I still haven't made up the difference to get back down to 202. What's up with this? I was expecting to be knocking on the door of onderland right about now. Can this much weight gain really be water retention? What else could cause it?

It's making me crazy!! :dizzy:

It is normal for weight to fluctuate. Mine goes up or down by about 2 pounds for no apparent reason.
If you are eating at your maintenance level , you may not be eating enough. A maintenace level for 140 pounds is about 1400 calories a day.

I find I gain about 3 to 5 lbs when it's "that time of month" and it can last about 2 weeks.

are you meeting a calorie deficit ?

In other words

if your body burns 2000 calories a day but you eat only 1700 calories a day, you create a calorie deficit of 300 calories a day and you’ll lose weight. If your body burns 2000 calories a day and you eat 2300 calories a day, you’re creating a calorie surplus of 300 calories, and you’ll end up gaining weight over time.

Currently MYSELF i try to burn 2400 cals a day
Consume 1650
my target deficit is 750

at that rate I should (at my age weight ect) lose about 1.2 a week.

I use a Body Bugg to keep track of my cals burned (ALL DAY no just when exercising)

Sodium intake can cause weight fluctuations. Also, hormones can cause very odd differences in the scale. 2 weeks prior to my period, I will be 3-4 pounds heavier than before, but then it will vanish by the 1st day of TOM.
